Char-Broil Patio Bistro 180 LP Gas Grill Electronic Ignition Module Replacement Procedure
This guide provides instructions for replacing the electronic ignition module on your Char-Broil Patio Bistro 180 LP Gas Grill. Please read all instructions carefully before beginning. An instructional video is available at www.charbroil.com/gas-patio-bistro-recall.html.

Electronic Ignition Module Replacement Kit Parts List
- #10-24x3/4" Carriage Bolt (1 each)
- #10-24 Wing Nut (1 each)
- Electronic Ignition Module Bracket Front Half (1 each)
- Electronic Ignition Module Bracket Rear Half (1 each)
- Electronic Ignition Module (1 each)
- Ground Wire (1 each) - Black wire with one ring connector and one black connector
- Lighting Instruction Label (English, French) (1 each)

Electronic Ignition Module Replacement Steps
- Step 1 - Remove LP Cylinder and Grease Tray
Ensure the grill is cool and the control knob is in the OFF (O) position. Disconnect the LP cylinder and remove the grease tray.
- Step 2 - Remove Battery Cap and Battery
Retain your battery for reuse.
- Step 3 - Remove Electronic Ignition Module Wiring
Pull all three (3) wires from the Electronic Ignition Module. CAUTION: DO NOT remove the electrode wire from the electrode.
- Step 4 - Remove Electronic Ignition Module
Remove the Electronic Ignition Module by removing the nut. Pull the Module from the unit. Discard the old Electronic Ignition Module, nut, and battery cap.
- Step 5 - Install Electronic Ignition Module Bracket
Install the new Electronic Ignition Module Bracket to the front, right leg of the grill. The bracket should be installed as low as possible on the grill leg.
- Step 5A - Assemble Bracket: Insert the tab of the rear bracket half into the slot of the front bracket half.
- Step 5B - Position Bracket: Place the assembled bracket on the front, right leg of the grill.
- Step 5C - Secure Bracket: Insert the carriage bolt through the bracket assembly and install the wing nut. Tighten the wing nut by hand.
- Step 6 - Install New Electronic Ignition Module
Remove the battery cap and nut from the new Electronic Ignition Module. Place the module into the mounting bracket and install the nut. Tighten by hand.
- Step 7 - Install Electrode Wire to Electronic Ignition Module
Attach the loose end of the electrode wire to the Electronic Ignition Module. The wire connector will fit either connection on the module.
- Step 8 - Install Ground Wire to Electronic Ignition Module
Attach the push-on connector end of the ground wire to the Electronic Ignition Module.
- Step 9 - Install Ground Wire to Rear Right Leg Screw
- Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the leg mounting screw from the right rear leg bracket.
- Place the ground wire ring connector over the screw.
- Reinstall the screw with the ring connector attached in the same location.
- Step 10 - Reinstall Battery and Battery Cap
Insert the battery into the Electronic Ignition Module with the negative (-) end first, and reinstall the battery cap.
- Step 11 - Verify Proper Operation
Press the ELECTRONIC IGNITION button on the battery cap to verify a rapid spark, which should be audible.
- Step 12 - Apply New Lighting Instruction Labels
Apply the new lighting instruction labels to each side of the tag on the regulator.
- Step 13 - Cut Old Ignition Wires at the Switch
Working under the control panel, identify the RED and BLACK wires that exit the old ignition switch. Using scissors, cut the RED and BLACK wires as close as possible to the old ignition switch. Remove and discard the loose RED and BLACK wires from the grill. The switch will remain in the grill. NOTE: Be careful NOT to cut any of the new wires you have just installed.
- Step 14 - Reinstall LP Cylinder and Grease tray
You have now completed the Electronic Ignition Module Replacement Procedure. Enjoy your Grill.
Ignitor Lighting Instructions
Do not lean over grill while lighting.
- Open lid during lighting.
- To ignite, push and turn control knob to ignition position. [➡️]
- Immediately, push and hold ELECTRONIC IGNITION button until the burner lights.
- If ignition does NOT occur in 5 seconds, turn the burner controls OFF [⚪], wait 5 minutes, and repeat the lighting procedure. If ignitor does not work, follow match lighting instructions.
