Tools and Preparation

Tools required: Phillips head screwdriver ?, flathead screwdriver ?, scissors ✂️, pencil ✏️.

Important notes: ❌ [Do not] place heavy objects on unfinished edges. Always place components on a soft surface like a rug to prevent scratches. If you encounter issues, consult the troubleshooting section or contact IKEA.

ℹ️ This manual covers the ALEX storage unit (standard and wheeled) and its integration with LAGKAPTEN desks. Compatible tabletops include LAGKAPTEN, MÅLSKYTT, and ANFALLARE.

Illustrations show the standard storage unit, the wheeled storage unit, and the desk configuration with a storage unit. A separate illustration details the wheel assembly.

Assembly Steps

Step 1: Prepare Panels with Dowels

Insert 6x dowels (Part 118331) into the pre-drilled holes on two large panels. Insert 12x wooden dowels (Part 101345) into the pre-drilled holes on several panels.

Step 2: Assemble Main Box Structure

Connect side panels to a base panel, aligning the dowels inserted in Step 1. Arrows indicate the direction of assembly.

Step 3: Secure Panels with Cam Locks

Secure the assembled panels using 6x cam locks (Part 103430 / 122741). An inset shows how to insert and rotate the cam lock with a screwdriver ?.

Step 4: Attach Base Panels

Attach two base panels to the partially assembled structure using 12x dowels (Part 118331).

Step 5: Attach Side and Back Panels

Attach the remaining side and back panels to the structure. Arrows indicate sliding the panels into place. Insets show how to align and attach back panels.

Step 6: Install Cam Lock Housings

Install 12x cam lock housings (Part 103430 / 122741) into the corresponding holes on the inside of the cabinet. An inset shows inserting and rotating the cam lock. The main diagram shows the assembled cabinet box.

Step 7: Attach Hinges to Cabinet Body

Attach 2x hinge assemblies (Part 109221) to the cabinet body using 4x screws (Part 113286).

Step 8: Attach Hinges to Door

Attach 2x hinge assemblies (Part 109338) to the door using 4x screws (Part 100347).

Step 9: Mount Door

Mount the door onto the cabinet body by connecting the hinge parts. An inset shows connecting the two hinge components. Another inset shows adjusting the hinge screws with a screwdriver ?.

Step 10: Adjust Door Alignment

Adjust the door position (up/down, left/right, in/out) by turning the screws on the hinge assemblies. Arrows indicate the direction of adjustment.

Step 11: Attach Tabletop (for Desk Configuration)

For the desk configuration, attach the tabletop. Compatible tabletops include LAGKAPTEN, MÅLSKYTT, and ANFALLARE.

Use 4x screws (Part 100001) and 4x dowels (Part 110907). An inset shows the Allen key (Part 100001) being used with a screw. A dimension of 70 mm (2 3/4") is indicated for placement.

Step 12: Install Shelf and Caps

Insert 4x shelf support pins (Part 101514) into the pre-drilled holes inside the cabinet. Place the shelf onto the support pins.

Attach 4x round caps (Part 10061614) to cover specific holes. An inset shows pressing the cap into place.

Step 13: Attach Wheels (for Wheeled Unit Configuration)

For the wheeled storage unit configuration, attach 4x wheels to the base of the unit. An inset shows a single wheel assembly.
