Keypad Layout and Functions

Keypad Operation:

• MENU: Short press to enter menu, Long press to input DTMF.
• EXIT: Short press to Turn Up or Down, Long press to go up or down quickly.
• A/B: Short press to select Main band or exit, Long press to show voltage level.
• # (Hash): Switch channel mode and frequency mode (VFO mode), icon 8 will show up (CHXXX or VFO). Long press to lock keypad.
• FM (0): Long press to enter FM Radio Broadcast Reception.

Long Press Functions on Keypad:

• 1: Turn on/off scan function
• 2: Switch TX priority to busy or edit.
• 3: Turn on/off VOX function
• 4: Switch high power and low power
• 5: Fast to SQL level adjust
• 6: Turn on/off dual standby function
• 7: Turn on/off backlight
• 8: Fast enter into adjust frequency step
• 9: Turn on/off keypad beep
• [*]: Fast set the repeater mode
• [0]: Turn on/off FM RADIO
• [#]: Lock/unlock keypad
• [▲]: Fast increase frequency/channels
• [▼]: Fast decrease frequency/channels
• [MENU]: Enable/disable DTMF code

Function Operation:

1. Transmit and Receive: Press PTT to transmit (icon 16 shows red, indicator light red). Receive signal (icon 16 shows blue, indicator light green).
2. How to set a repeater mode: In VFO mode, input receive frequency, long press * until frequency number turns red, input transmit frequency, long press * again to confirm.
3. Frequency sweep function/One key copy frequency: Used to seek frequencies and sub tones of nearby radios. Press defined side key, radio searches. Press # for VHF or UHF. Press another radio's PTT to capture frequency and tone. Press MENU to VFO mode.
4. FM RADIO Reception: Long press OFM button. Use up/down buttons to search FM channels or input frequency directly.
5. NOAA Weather reception: Press defined side key. Use up/down to switch NOAA channels. Scans automatically if no operation for 2 seconds. (May not be available in all countries).
6. Side key programmable: Assign functions to side keys (long or short press). Options include: Off, Monitor, Local alarm, Remote alarm, Frequency detect, Repeater mode, Freq Inverse, NOAA CH, Roger tone.

Menu Functions and DTMF

DTMF Encode Sending

Press and hold PTT and type number keys 0-9, *, #. Menu=A, Up=B, Down=C, EXIT=D. Radio transmits DTMF codes. Release to stop.

In standby mode, long press MENU to input DTMF code. Press PTT to transmit. Long press MENU again to exit.

Local Government Regulations

When two-way radios are used for employment, Local Government Regulations require users to be aware of and control their exposure to meet occupational requirements. Your Radtel radio has a RF Exposure Product Label, and the user manual provides information and operating instructions for RF exposure control and compliance.

Radio License

Governments classify radios. Most classified walkie-talkies require a local government license. For specified classifications like USA/CA FRS, Australian CB, EU PMR446, individual licenses are not required. Contact local government radio management departments for detailed classification and usage information.

CE Marking

The CE marking indicates that this radio equipment type complies with the RED Directive 2014/53/EU, the ROHS Directive 2011/65/EU, and the WEEE Directive 2012/19/EU. The full EU declaration of conformity is available in this manual or at www.radtels.com.

Safety Information for Portable Devices (General)

When worn on the body, always place the radio in an approved clip, holder, holster, case, or body harness. Do not hold the antenna when transmitting. Do not use a radio with a damaged antenna, as contact with skin may cause a minor burn. Acoustic Safety

⚠️ Attention: Before using this radio, read the instructions for correct use. Exposure to loud noises can affect hearing temporarily or permanently. Higher volume levels can cause hearing damage more quickly. Hearing damage from loud noise can be cumulative. To protect your hearing:

• Use the lowest volume necessary for your task.
• Increase volume only in noisy surroundings.
• Turn down volume before using a headset or headphones.
• Limit the time using headsets/headphones at high volume.
• When using the radio without a headset/headphones, do not place the speaker directly against your ear.

Medical Devices

If you use a personal medical device (e.g., pacemaker, hearing aid), consult the device manufacturer to determine if it is adequately shielded from RF energy. Your physician can assist with this information.

Operational Warnings

• Vehicles with Airbags: Refer to the vehicle manufacturer's manual before installing electronic equipment to avoid interference with airbag wiring. DO NOT place a portable radio in or over an airbag deployment area, as the inflating airbag can propel the radio with great force, causing serious injury.
• Potentially Explosive Atmospheres: Use of radio equipment in these areas is only allowed if devices comply with specific technical standards. Using a non-intrinsically safe radio in a potentially explosive atmosphere can cause serious injury or death. Turn off the radio before entering such areas unless it is specifically certified for hazardous locations. To avoid interference with blasting operations, turn off the radio near electrical blasting caps or in blasting areas. Explosive atmospheres may contain hazardous gases, vapors, or dusts (e.g., fueling areas, chemical storage). DO NOT remove, install, or charge batteries, or remove/install antennas in these areas, as sparks can cause explosions or fires. Obey all signs and instructions.
• Batteries: ALWAYS verify batteries are rechargeable before charging. Do not charge alkaline or non-rechargeable batteries. Use only Radtel-approved chargers. NEVER recharge or use damaged or leaking batteries. Pay attention to polarity when inserting batteries. Do not mix battery types/brands. Do not short-circuit batteries. Do not throw batteries into fire. Do not replace batteries in "Hazardous atmosphere" areas. Do not disassemble, crush, puncture, cut, or modify batteries. Do not dry wet batteries with heat sources. Keep conductive materials away from battery terminals. Failure to observe these precautions can lead to overheating, explosion, electrolyte leakage, and damage to the radio. If electrolyte contacts eyes, rinse immediately with water and consult a doctor.
