Introduction
Welcome to the Kenton GPIM-16, a versatile 16-channel GPI to MIDI unit designed for music production and audio interfacing. This manual provides essential information to ensure smooth operation and help users avoid any potential difficulties.
Connections
The GPIM-16 features a MIDI In port for daisy-chaining units, merging incoming MIDI data with data generated from GPI inputs. It also includes two MIDI Out ports (Out 1 & Out 2) that carry identical MIDI information, allowing for simultaneous connection to primary and backup systems. Power is supplied via a 9V DC input.
GPI inputs are handled via two 9-pin D connectors, with pins 1-8 serving as input pins and pin 9 as the common ground. These inputs are internally pulled up and activated by shorting to ground.
Display and Operation
The unit's display indicates GPI input activity, showing numbers 1-16 when an input is received. It also serves functions within the edit mode for parameter adjustment.
The GPIM-16 offers an intuitive editing system for customizing parameters such as MIDI channel, note numbers, MIDI off messages, debounce values, and output message types (notes, controllers, program changes). A MIDI analyser function is also included for monitoring MIDI data.
