SmartTWO™ Cable Management System Installation Guide

Document ID: PRFM0122

1. Introduction

This guide describes the installation of a Cable Management System (CMS) on a SmartTWO™ pedestal. The CMS can be mounted on the following pedestal model and configurations.

Pedestal Model:

Pedestal Configurations:

NOTE: The CMS cannot be retrofitted to other pedestal models or pedestal configurations.

The CMS is designed to be installed on the pedestal prior to the installation of the charging station.

2. Safety Instructions

Read all instructions before using this product. PLEASE SAVE ALL OF THE INSTRUCTIONS CONTAINED IN THIS MANUAL.

Refer to the SmartTWO™ Installation Guide for your product's complete Safety and Maintenance Instructions.

2.1. Instructions Pertaining to the Risk of Fire or Electric Shock

WARNING: When using electric products, basic precautions should always be followed, including the following. This manual contains important instructions for the SmartTWO cable management system that must be followed during the installation, operation, and maintenance of the unit.

2.2. Important General Safety Instructions

CAUTION: Always use a manual screwdriver only. DO NOT use an impact driver for the screws at any time, as doing so will void the warranty.

2.3. Safety and Maintenance for Cable Management System Installation

IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS – PLEASE DO NOT DISCARD THESE INSTRUCTIONS.

Carefully read this section before installing the CMS.

  1. Always disconnect the power on the pedestal and charging station before the installation of a CMS.
  2. Handle parts with care since they can be sharp-edged. Always use safety glasses and gloves when unpacking and installing.
  3. Always use proper lifting techniques and wear safety boots during installation. Some parts are heavy and could cause injuries.

3. Anchor

The anchor and concrete base layout are not impacted by the CMS for single and double pedestal installations. See the SmartTWO™ Anchor Guide for more information.

Quad pedestal installation is not supported when using a CMS. However, it can be replicated by using two double installations placed back-to-back. In this situation, two anchors must be used. There must be a 35.5 cm (14”) center-to-center space between the two anchors to allow space for the CMS, as indicated below.

Anchor Positioning on Concrete Base

Diagram showing anchor positioning on a concrete base with dimensions.

A diagram illustrates anchor placement on a concrete base. The left part shows a top-down view of a rectangular base with circles indicating anchor hole positions and dimensions: 13 cm (5.25") from the edges, 35.5 cm (14") center-to-center spacing for two anchors, and a total width of 62.2 cm (24.5"). The right part shows a top-down view of two pedestal bases positioned back-to-back, emphasizing the requirement for two anchors with specific spacing for CMS compatibility.

4. Material

The table below describes the material included with the CMS. Use the number in the table to refer to the material in the image. Only SmartTWO mounting hardware is needed. The remaining mounting hardware components are not needed and can be put aside.

An exploded view diagram displays the components of the Cable Management System (CMS) and their attachment points on a pedestal. Numbered callouts (1 through 7) point to specific parts: 1. Cable management system column and cable clamp; 2. Rectangular spacing shims; 3. Column mount brackets; 4. Phillips flat-head screws; 5. Nylon-insert locknuts; 6. Hex-head self-piercing screw; 7. Serrated-flange hex-head screws.

Image Reference Number Included Material Quantity
1 Cable management system column and cable clamp 1
2 Rectangular spacing shims 2
3 Column mount brackets 2
4 Phillips flat-head screws, ¼-20 thread, ¾" length 2
5 Nylon-insert locknuts, ¼-20 thread 2
6 Hex-head self-piercing screw, ¼”Ø, ¾” length 1
7 Serrated-flange hex-head screws, ¼-20 thread, ¾" length 2

5. Installation

CAUTION: Before getting started, disconnect the power to prevent electric shock.

5.1. Cable Management System Installation

  1. First, install the pedestal on the ground. Refer to the SmartTWO™ Installation Guide as needed. Do not connect the cables or charging station, as installing the CMS beforehand is recommended.
  2. Remove the security screw used to hold the counterweight during transportation when unpackaging the CMS.
  3. Identify one of the two pedestal backsides on which the CMS will be placed. It can be placed on either of the two sides using the pre-drilled and threaded holes.

A diagram shows the rear of a pedestal, indicating two sides ("Side 1" and "Side 2") for CMS attachment. It highlights "Mounting drilled holes" on one side and "Mounting threaded holes" on the other.

  4. Remove the front block cover on the pedestal by unscrewing the four screws.
Diagram illustrating the removal of the front block cover.

A diagram shows the front of the pedestal with an arrow indicating the removal of the front block cover by unscrewing four screws.

  5. Remove the nuts (4), washers (4) and bolts (4) from the backside identified in step 3. Install the rectangular spacing shim on the pedestal upper mounting holes. Put the column in place then install the column mount bracket on the column. Screw the parts together loosely with the Phillips flat-head ¼-20 screws and nylon locknuts. The CMS column is maintained in place and can move freely to install the lower mounting hardware.

A side view diagram illustrates the attachment of the upper mounting hardware. It shows the CMS column being positioned, with a rectangular spacing shim and a column mount bracket. The parts are loosely secured with Phillips flat-head screws and nylon locknuts. An annotation indicates that "The output faces the front of the charging station".

RECOMMENDATION: To position the column, make sure the cable management cable clamp is facing the front of the charging station/pedestal.

  6. Install the rectangular spacing shim on the lower mounting holes on the pedestal. Install the column mount bracket on the column. Screw the parts together loosely in the threaded holes using the ¼-20 serrated-flange hex-head screws.

A diagram shows the lower mounting hardware being attached to the CMS column and pedestal, using serrated-flange hex-head screws.

  7. Screw the ¼”Ø hex-head self-piercing screw on the side of the cable management column.

A close-up diagram shows the installation of a ¼”Ø hex-head self-piercing screw on the side of the cable management column.

  8. Secure the top and bottom brackets by tightening the screws.

5.2. Cable Clamp Positioning

Once the station is installed, proceed to the cable clamp positioning.

  1. Plan to position the cable clamp 150" (381 cm) from the cable output.

RECOMMENDATION: The cable portion between the clamp and the charging connector must not touch the ground when the CMS is completely retracted.

  2. Pull on the cable of the CMS to hold the cable clamp in your hand.

A diagram illustrates the cable clamp positioned at 150" (381 cm) from the cable output. The cable extends upwards from the CMS column.

  3. Remove the four Phillips screws on the cable clamp.
    Diagram showing cable clamp disassembly.

An exploded view diagram shows the cable clamp components and Phillips screws being removed, preparing to insert the cable.

  4. Pass the cable through the cable clamp. Aim to position it at 150" (381 cm) from the cable output.
  5. Reinsert the screws in the cable clamp and screw them in (3.5 N-m, 31 lb-in) to fix the cable to the cable clamp.
  6. Let the cable retract itself. Verify the clearance between the charging station cable and the ground.
  7. Roll the cable overhang around the charging station cable holder.
  8. Complete the installation of the SmartTWO charging station. Refer to the SmartTWO™ Installation Guide for more information.
