Sillbird 12-in-1 STEM Solar Robot Building Kit

Build 12 different robots powered by the sun!

Introduction

The Sillbird Solar Robot is a versatile building kit that can be transformed into 12 different robot modes, showcasing a variety of mechanical and functional movements. Users can create robots such as a dog, beetle, crab, surfer, speedster, and zombie hunter. The kit includes unique accessories and parts that enable the robot to move on land and water. This product is an excellent way to introduce children to alternative energy sources and solar power, as it requires no batteries and operates under direct sunlight. It promotes creativity, imagination, and an understanding of green technology and low-carbon living.

Tools You May Need

  • Diagonal cutters or sprue cutters (not included)
  • Nail file or cardboard file (included)

Parts Lists

Mechanical Parts (Located in 2 separate bags)

  • 1 x Motor with connectors
  • 1 x Solar Panel with springs
  • 1 x Gear with Shaft (white)
  • 1 x Gear (red)
  • 1 x Gear (green)
  • 2 x Sponges
  • 1 x Round Shaft
  • 1 x Boat Hull
  • 1 x Nail File

Plastic Parts

The kit contains numerous plastic parts. These parts may have plastic burrs from the molding process. It is essential to remove these burrs before assembly using the included nail file or diagonal cutters. Be careful not to damage the parts, as this could affect the robot's functionality. Cut close to the part but avoid damaging it. Excess plastic can be smoothed with a nail file or cardboard file.

Safety Warnings

  • ⚠️ CHOKING HAZARD - Contains small parts. Not suitable for children under 3 years.
  • Do not use any accessories not included with the kit.
  • Use this product only for its intended purpose.
  • Do not connect the motor to any power source other than the included solar panel.
  • Do not connect the solar panel to anything other than the included motor.
  • Inspect products thoroughly before each use. If the product shows wear, cracks, or breaks, discontinue use and discard immediately.

Tips for Best Performance

  • ? For best results, use the robot outdoors in direct sunlight.
  • For indoor use, a 100W halogen bulb is required.
  • Clouds, shadows, indirect sunlight, or fluorescent lighting may limit performance.

Part Storage

To help organize the many similar-looking parts, the kit includes resealable bags and labels. Apply the labels to the bags and sort parts as you remove them from the sprue. Store parts in their labeled bags until needed, and return them for future use.

Testing the Gearbox

Before final assembly, it is recommended to test the gearbox. Ensure all gears mesh correctly and operate smoothly.

Module Assembly

Wheel Module Assembly

Assemble the wheel module, typically connecting gears and axles to the main body or chassis components.

Boat Module Assembly

Assemble the boat hull by carefully shaping the sides and pinching the triangles from the ends towards the center to form the hull.

Body Module Assembly

Assemble the main body of the robot, which often houses the gearbox and connects to other modules.

Head Module Assembly

Assemble the head module, which may include the solar panel or other sensory components.

Wiring

Connect the motor to the solar panel. Typically, a red wire connects to the positive terminal and a black wire to the negative terminal. Ensure correct polarity for the motor to function when exposed to light.

Example Connection:

Solar Panel [Positive] (+) --- Red Wire ---> Motor [Positive]

Solar Panel [Negative] (-) --- Black Wire ---> Motor [Negative]

Troubleshooting

Issue: Part C6 (or the motor) does not start spinning when the solar panel is connected and exposed to appropriate lighting conditions.

Solution: Disassemble the gearbox and reassemble it following the instructions on page 6 (referring to the original document's page numbering). Ensure all gears are properly aligned and meshing.

Build 12 Different Robots!

01 - Turtle Robot Assembly

Combine the Head and Body modules. Ensure all axles between panels are installed correctly and positioned properly. Check the gearbox engagement by turning the gears manually to ensure smooth operation. Orient the robot as required for the turtle configuration.

02 - Walker Robot Assembly

Combine the Head and Body modules. Ensure all axles are installed correctly and positioned properly. Check the gearbox engagement. This configuration typically involves legs that allow the robot to walk.

03 - Quadruped Robot Assembly

Combine the Head and Body modules. Ensure all axles are installed correctly. Check the gearbox engagement. This robot will have four legs for movement.

04 - Row-Bot Assembly

Combine the Head and Body modules. Ensure all axles are installed correctly. Check the gearbox engagement. This robot is designed for rowing or paddling motion.

05 - Beetle Robot Assembly

Combine the Head and Body modules. Ensure all axles between panels are installed correctly and positioned properly. Check the gearbox engagement. This robot mimics the movement of a beetle.

06 - Puppy Robot Assembly

Combine the Head and Body modules. Ensure all axles are installed correctly. Check the gearbox engagement. This robot is designed to resemble a puppy, potentially with tail-wagging movements.

Movement Example 1: Shaking and wagging its tail!

Movement Example 2: Jumping and wagging its tail!

07 - Buggy Robot Assembly

Combine the Head and Body modules. Ensure all axles between panels are installed correctly and positioned properly. Check the gearbox engagement. This robot is a wheeled vehicle resembling a buggy.

08 - Crab Robot Assembly

Combine the Head and Body modules. Ensure all axles between panels are installed correctly and positioned properly. Check the gearbox engagement. This robot moves sideways like a crab.

09 - Slitherbot Assembly

Combine the Head and Body modules. Ensure all axles between panels are installed correctly and positioned properly. Check the gearbox engagement. This robot slithers or moves in a serpentine motion.

10 - Roly Poly Robot Assembly

Combine the Head and Body modules. Ensure all axles are installed correctly. Check the gearbox engagement. This robot rolls or tumbles.
