General Safety Instructions

READ CAREFULLY AND KEEP FOR FUTURE REFERENCE

Read this manual thoroughly before first use, even if you are familiar with this type of product. The safety precautions enclosed herein reduce the risk of fire, electric shock and injury when correctly adhered to. Keep the manual in a safe place for future reference, along with the completed warranty card, purchase receipt and carton.

To avoid unnecessary mistakes and accidents, it is important to ensure that all people using the appliance are thoroughly familiar with its operation and safety features. Therefore make sure that these instructions remain with the appliance if it is moved or sold, so that everyone using it through its life will be properly informed on appliance use and safety.

Pay particular attention to messages that follow this safety alert symbol ⚠️ or the words DANGER, WARNING or CAUTION. These words are used to alert you to a potential hazard that can seriously injure you and others. The instructions will tell you how to reduce the chance of injury and let you know what can happen if the instructions are not followed.

WARNING! This appliance contains flammable materials: isobutane (R600a) as refrigerant and cyclopentane as insulation blowing gas. While R600a is a gas with a high level of environmental compatibility, it is nevertheless flammable. Do not expose the appliance to high heat, sparks and open flames. During transport and installation, ensure that none of the components of the refrigerant circuit become damaged.

Refrigerant matters

WARNING: Do not damage the refrigerant circuit! Never use an appliance with a damaged refrigerant circuit! If the refrigerant circuit becomes damaged, avoid proximity to open fires and all types of heat and ignition sources. Thoroughly ventilate the room in which the appliance is located. The room for installing the appliance must be at least 1m³ per 8g of refrigerant. The amount and type of refrigerant in the appliance can be found in the technical specifications on page 18 and on the appliance rating plate.

It is hazardous for anyone other than an authorised service person to service this appliance. In Queensland, the authorised service person MUST hold a Gas Work Authorisation for hydrocarbon refrigerants to carry out servicing or repairs which involve the removal of covers.

Responsible disposal

At the end of its working life, do not throw this appliance out with your household rubbish. Electrical and electronic products contain substances that can have a detrimental effect on the environment and human health if disposed of inappropriately. Observe any local regulations regarding the disposal of electrical consumer goods and dispose of it appropriately for recycling and recovery of the refrigerant and blowing agent.

WARNING! This refrigeration appliance contains flammable refrigerants and insulation blowing gases, which must be removed before disposal. Contact your municipal authorities for any codes or regulations concerning the disposal of such materials.

DANGER! Risk of child entrapment! When discarding this or another freezer, make sure to take off the lid and leave any shelving/baskets in place so that children cannot easily climb in and get trapped inside.

FAQs and Troubleshooting Guide

If you experience a problem with your chest freezer, check in the following table for solutions to help you solve the problem. If after these checks you still have a problem with your freezer, contact our after sales support centre for advice.

CAUTION: Before troubleshooting, disconnect the power supply. Any troubleshooting that is not mentioned in this manual may only be carried out by a qualified electrician or similarly qualified person.

Problem Possible Cause
The freezer does not work.
  • It is not plugged in or the plug is loose.
  • The circuit breaker tripped or a blown fuse.
  • The outlet socket is defective – mains malfunctions are to be corrected by a licensed electrician.
The compressor turns on and off frequently. Does that indicate that there is a problem?
  • The room temperature is hotter than normal.
  • A large amount of food has been added to the cabinet.
  • The lid is being opened too often, or not closed completely.
  • The lid gasket does not seal properly.
  • The appliance does not have the correct ventilation clearances.
  • The appliance has recently been disconnected for a period of time. At least two hours are required for the appliance to cool down.
The temperature inside the freezer is too warm.
  • The temperature control is set too warm. Set a lower temperature within the -14°C to -25°C range and allow several hours for the temperature to stabilise.
  • The lid is kept open too long or is opened too frequently. Warm air enters the appliance every time the lid is opened. Open the lid less often.
  • The lid is not closed completely.
  • The lid gasket does not seal properly. Clean it, or if no longer seals airtight, see the last problem on the following page for a solution.
  • A large amount of warm food might have been stored recently. Wait until the freezer has had a chance to reach its selected temperature.
  • The freezer has recently been disconnected for a period of time. At least two hours are required for the appliance to cool down.
  • The appliance is located near a heat source.
The temperature inside the freezer is too cold.
  • The freezer temperature is set too cold. Select a warmer temperature and allow several hours for the temperature to stabilise.
  • The unit is running in “Super Freezing" mode.
The temperature of the external freezer surface is warm.
  • The exterior freezer walls can be warmer than room temperature. This is normal while the compressor works to transfer heat from inside the freezer cabinet.
There is a popping or cracking sound when the compressor comes on.
  • Metal parts undergo expansion and contraction, just as hot water pipes. This is normal. The sound will level off or disappear as the freezer continues to run.
There is a bubbling or gurgling sound, like water boiling.
  • Refrigerant (used to cool the freezer) is circulating throughout the system. This is normal.
There are vibrations; what is causing them? How can I stop the vibrations?
  • Check to ensure that the appliance is on a level surface.
  • The floor is uneven or weak. The appliance rocks on the floor when it is moved slightly. Be sure your floor can adequately support it.
  • Put a piece of metal or timber underneath parts of the appliance to level it.
  • The appliance is touching the wall. Re-level the appliance and move it away from the wall.
Moisture forms on the inside freezer walls.
  • Hot and humid weather increases the internal rate of frost build-up. This is normal.
Moisture forms on the outside of the freezer.
  • The lid is slightly open.
  • The lid is kept open too long, or is opened too frequently. Open the lid less often.
  • The lid is slightly open, causing cold air from inside the freezer to meet warm, moist air from the outside.
The lid will not close properly.
  • The freezer is not on a level surface.
  • The gasket is dirty.
  • The storage basket is out of position.
Heavy build-up of frost on the lid seal.
  • Carefully warm the leaking sections of the lid gasket (seal) with a hair dryer (on a cool setting). At the same time, shape the warmed lid gasket by hand until it sits correctly and provides an airtight seal.

Other Useful Information

WARNING! To reduce the risk of electric shock or injury, always disconnect the appliance from the power supply before defrosting or cleaning it.

Defrosting the freezer

When the unit is run in “Freezer” mode, its interior walls will become progressively covered with frost. For efficient operation and minimum energy consumption, it is important that this frost layer is removed regularly. You may use the supplied plastic ice scraper to remove a thin layer of frost – do NOT use a metal implement.

If the frost on the freezer walls has built up to about 3–4mm thickness, the unit should be defrosted properly, as described below. Preferably, choose a time when your stock of frozen food is low.

WARNING!

Cleaning the freezer

For hygienic reasons clean the appliance interior and accessories regularly. We recommend cleaning the freezer after defrosting it.

WARNING!

Storage

If the appliance is not going to be used for an extended period of time, unplug it from the power supply and store the clean and dry appliance in the original packaging to protect it from dust.

Interior light

This chest freezer has an interior light built into the lid. It lights and extinguishes automatically when the lid is opened (more than 30°) and closed. If the light needs replacing, please contact our after sales support centre to book a service call. The light can only be replaced by properly qualified service personnel.

Repair and Refurbished Goods or Parts Notice

Unfortunately, from time to time, faulty products are manufactured which need to be returned to the supplier for repair.

Please be aware that if your product is capable of retaining user-generated data (such as files stored on a computer hard drive, telephone numbers stored on a mobile telephone, songs stored on a portable media player, games saved on a games console or files stored on a USB memory stick) during the process of repair, some or all of your stored data may be lost. We recommend you save this data elsewhere prior to sending the product for repair.

You should also be aware that rather than repairing goods, we may replace them with refurbished goods of the same type or use refurbished parts in the repair process.

Please be assured though, refurbished parts or replacements are only used where they meet ALDI's stringent quality specifications.
