Introduction
This guide provides essential steps for installing and setting up your ASUS ROG STRIX B650E-E GAMING WIFI motherboard.
Motherboard Layout
The motherboard is ATX form factor (30.5cm x 24.4cm). Key features include:
- AM5 CPU socket
- Four DDR5 DIMM slots (labeled DIMM_A1, DIMM_A2, DIMM_B1, DIMM_B2)
- Multiple M.2 slots for NVMe SSDs (supporting various lengths like 2242, 2260, 2280, 22110)
- PCIe slots (including PCIEX16_1, PCIEX16_2, PCIEX16_3 for graphics cards and other expansion cards)
- SATA 6Gb/s ports (SATA6G_E1/2, SATA6G_E3/4)
- 24-pin ATX power connector (ATX_PWR)
- 8-pin CPU power connectors (ATX_12V_1, ATX_12V_2)
- CPU and chassis fan headers (CPU_FAN, CPU_OPT, AIO_PUMP, CHA_FAN1-5)
- RGB headers
- System panel connector header
- USB headers
- Wi-Fi M.2 slot
- BIOS FlashBack™ button and LED
- Q-Code diagnostic LEDs
- Boot device LEDs (VGA, BOOT, DRAM, CPU)
- Super I/O chip
- Audio header
- TPM header
- Temperature sensor headers (T_SENSOR)
Step 1: Install the CPU
CPU Installation:
- Open the CPU socket lever by pushing it down and then to the side.
- Align the CPU's triangle mark

with the corresponding triangle mark on the socket. - Gently place the CPU into the socket. Do not force it.
- Close the CPU socket lever by pushing it back into its original position.
Note: Remove only the screws and the retention module. Do not remove the plate on the bottom.
Step 2: Install the CPU Fan
Mount the CPU cooler according to its specific instructions. Ensure proper alignment and secure attachment to the motherboard. Connect the fan cable to the CPU_FAN header.
Step 3: Install Memory Modules
Open the clips on the DIMM slots (e.g., DIMM_A1, DIMM_A2). Align the notch on the memory module with the notch in the slot. Push down firmly on both ends of the module until the clips snap into place. Refer to the motherboard manual for optimal dual-channel or multi-channel configurations.
Step 4: Install Storage Devices
To install M.2 storage devices, align the M.2 drive with the slot and secure it with the provided screw. Refer to the motherboard manual for specific slot locations and installation details.
Step 5: Install Expansion Cards
Open the retention clip on the desired PCIe slot (e.g., PCIEX16_1). Remove the corresponding slot cover(s) from the back of the PC case. Align the expansion card with the slot and push down firmly until it is seated and the clip locks.
Step 6: Connect System Panel Connectors
Connect the small cables from your PC case's front panel (e.g., Power Switch ⚡
, Reset Switch, HDD LED, Power LED) to the corresponding pins on the system panel header on the motherboard. Refer to the motherboard manual for precise pin assignments.
Step 7: Install ATX Power Connectors
Connect the main 24-pin ATX power supply connector (?
ATX_PWR) to the motherboard. Connect the 8-pin CPU power connector (?
ATX_12V_1 or ATX_12V_2) from the power supply to the corresponding socket on the motherboard.
Step 8: Connect Input/Output Devices
Connect your peripherals to the rear I/O panel. This typically includes display outputs (HDMI, DisplayPort), USB ports, Ethernet port, and audio jacks. Also, connect internal devices like front panel USB headers and audio headers to their respective connectors on the motherboard.
Step 9: Power On and Install OS/Drivers
Connect your monitor, keyboard, and mouse. Power on the system. Access the BIOS/UEFI by pressing the designated key (usually DEL or F2) during boot. Configure boot order and install your operating system from a USB drive or other media. After OS installation, install the necessary motherboard drivers from the ASUS support website.
