Important Safety Information
CAUTION! To work with this microscope, sharp and pointed aids are being used. Please take care that this microscope and its accessories are stored at a place out of reach of children. Let children only work with this microscope under an adult's supervision! Keep packing material (plastic bags etc.) away from children!
(Additional safety warnings in other languages convey similar messages regarding sharp objects and child supervision.)
Microscope Components (Fig. 1-4)
Figure 1 illustrates the main components of the microscope:
- 1. Eyepieces: For viewing the specimen.
- 2. Dioptre scale: Used for focusing adjustment for individual eyes.
- 3. Trinocular head: Allows attachment of a camera.
- 4. Focus wheel: Adjusts the sharpness of the image.
- 5. Incident light illumination: Light source from above for opaque objects.
- 6. On/Off switch: Powers the microscope's illumination.
- 7. Brightness control (incident light): Adjusts the intensity of the incident light.
- 8. Brightness control (transmitted light): Adjusts the intensity of the transmitted light.
- 9. Transmitted light illumination: Light source from below for transparent objects.
- 10. Microscope stage with object plate: Platform where the specimen is placed.
- 11. Object clamps: Secure the specimen on the stage.
- 12. Lens holder (rotatable): Holds the objective lenses (1x, 2x, 4x) and allows switching between them.
- 13. Battery compartment: Located on the underside for AA batteries.
- 14. Power supply connection: Port for the AC adapter.
- 15. Dust cover: Protects the microscope when not in use.
- 16. Object plate (black/white): Reversible plate for the stage.
- 17. Power supply: AC adapter for mains power.
- 18. Rubber eyecups (2 pieces): Enhance viewing comfort.
- 19. Carrying handle: For safe transport.
Figure 2 shows the battery compartment (13) for AA batteries.
Figure 3 indicates the power supply connection port (14).
Figure 4 displays the power supply (17), power cord, object plate (16), and rubber eyecups (18).
Setting Up Your Microscope
1. Choosing a Location
Select a stable, level surface for the microscope. Ensure the power socket is easily accessible for disconnecting the device.
2. Illumination Options
The Analyth STR offers three illumination modes: incident light, transmitted light, or both simultaneously. Connect the power adapter (17) to the microscope (14) and a power outlet. Use the main switch (6) to turn on the illumination. Brightness for incident (7) and transmitted (8) light can be adjusted independently. The microscope can also be powered by AA batteries inserted into the battery compartment (13). Note: Rechargeable batteries are not charged by the unit.
Note: The LED illumination has an estimated lifespan of 20,000 hours.
Operating the Microscope
3. Observation
Place your specimen on the stage (10) and secure it with object clamps (11) if needed. Select the desired magnification (1x, 2x, or 4x) by rotating the lens holder (12). Begin observations with the lowest magnification (1x). Look through the eyepieces (1) and adjust focus using the focus wheel (4).
4. Focusing and Dioptre Compensation
Set the dioptre scale (2) on the left eyepiece to the middle position. Close your left eye and focus for your right eye using the focus wheel (4). Then, close your right eye and adjust focus for your left eye using the dioptre scale. This aligns the microscope to your vision.
5. Eye Distance Adjustment
Adjust the interpupillary distance by moving the eyepieces closer or further apart until you achieve a comfortable view.
6. Trinocular Head
The trinocular head is designed for mounting a camera with a 23.2 mm adapter. Insert the camera and secure it. Note that not all cameras may be parfocal. Bresser MikroCam cameras may require a reducing lens (0.5x, 0.75x, or 1x). If unsure about adapters, contact Bresser Service. If parfocal adjustment is difficult, use the focus knobs, but this may blur the eyepiece image. For very flat objects, a small pedestal may be needed.
7. Replacing Eyepieces (Optional)
Loosen the clamp screws on the eyepiece holder to remove and replace eyepieces.
8. Adjusting Focus Drive Friction
If the microscope head drifts down due to its weight, adjust the friction by turning the two focus wheels in opposite directions.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Keep the microscope free from dust and moisture. Avoid touching optical surfaces. Clean the body with a slightly damp cloth. For optical surfaces, use a soft, lint-free cloth with a small amount of alcohol. Cover the microscope with the dust cover (15) after use. Proper care maintains optical quality and value.
