USER GUIDE
Important Information
This product is intended for installation by expert users only. Please consult with a qualified technician. Improper installation may result in damage to your equipment. EK assumes no liability whatsoever, expressed or implied, for the use of this product or its installation. The following instructions are subject to change without notice. Please, read the manual carefully before beginning with the installation process. For updates, you can visit our official website www.ekwb.com.
Before you start using this product, please follow these basic guidelines:
- Carefully read the manual before beginning the installation process.
- Remove your graphics card from the computer for the safest mounting process to prevent any possible damage to your GPU or its circuit board (PCB).
EK Fittings require only a small amount of force to screw them firmly in place since the liquid seal is ensured with the rubber O-ring gaskets.
The use of quality, market-proven, corrosion-inhibiting coolants is always strongly recommended for any liquid cooling system.
Do not use pure distilled water as a cooling liquid! For best results, EK recommends the use of EK-CryoFuel Coolants. Make sure to bleed air out of your water block thoroughly in order to reach optimal performance.
EK only guarantees compatibility with included EK-brand thermal pads. The installation process, cooling performance, and block contacts are tested exclusively with EK-brand thermal pads. Listed thermal pad thicknesses apply only to those included in the package.
EK does not guarantee compatibility with aftermarket alternatives for thermal interface material.

Preparing the 3090 FE Water Block
Step 1
Diagram shows removing the backplate cover using three M3x12 DIN7991 screws.
Action:
Unscrew the three (3) M3x12 DIN7991 screws and remove the backplate cover.
Tools Required:
- Allen Key 2 mm
Step 2
Diagram shows removing four backplate screws (M2.5 x 7 AX1 SCREWS) and detaching the backplate.
Action:
After removing the backplate cover, remove four (4) backplate screws. Detach the backplate.
Important Note:
Preinstalled thermal pads on the PCB must be detached. Remove pre-applied thermal grease using a nonabrasive cloth or Q-tip. EK recommends denatured alcohol for removing TIM leftovers.
Tools Required:
- Phillips Head Screwdriver
Step 3
Diagram shows removing the original FC Terminal using M4 x 24.5 DIN7984 screws.
Action:
The EK-Quantum Vector FE 3090 Active Backplate comes with its own terminal. Remove the original terminal on the EK-Quantum Vector FE 3090 water block.
Important Note:
If the EK-Quantum Vector FE 3090 water block is already filled with coolant, empty it before proceeding. Ensure remaining coolant does not contact the GPU.
Tools Required:
- Allen Key 2.5 mm
Cutting and Placing Thermal Pads
Step 1
Diagram shows a Thermal Pad F - 1.0 mm (120 x 16 mm).
Action:
Your Active Backplate includes thermal pads that must be cut into smaller pieces to cover all VRM components. EK has provided sufficient thermal pads.
Replacement Thermal Pads:
- Thermal Pad F 1.0 mm – (120 x 16 mm) EAN: 3830046996732
Step 2
Diagram shows the placement of cut thermal pads on the PCB.
Action:
Apply the cut thermal pads to the PCB as shown in the image.
Attaching the Backplate
Step 1
Diagram shows removing the preinstalled terminal and metal plate using terminal screws (M4 x 27 DIN7984).
Action:
For easier installation, remove the preinstalled terminal and metal plate. Unscrew the two (2) Terminal screws (as shown) and remove the terminal. Save this material for later use.
Tools Required:
- Allen Key 2.5 mm
Step 2
Diagram shows placing the active backplate onto the PCB and inserting screws (M2.5 x 20, M3 x 25 DIN7991, M3 x 20 DIN7991).
Action:
Place the active backplate on the PCB, ensuring all holes are aligned. Position the seven (7) mounting screws and tighten them evenly with the 2 mm Allen Key.
Tools Required:
- Allen Key 2 mm
- M3x25 DIN7991 Screw (1 pc)
- M3x20 DIN7991 Screw (2 pcs)
- M2.5x20 Screw (4 pcs)
Step 3
Diagram shows four O-rings positioned within the terminal slots.
Action:
Before attaching the terminal, ensure that four (4) O-rings are correctly placed in the terminal slots.
Step 4
Diagram shows attaching the AB Terminal with the preinstalled metal plate using M4x27 DIN7984 screws.
Action:
Set the Active backplate terminal in place with the preinstalled metal plate. Secure it with four (4) M4x27 DIN7984 Screws. Tighten evenly with the 2.5 mm Allen Key.
Tools Required:
- Allen Key 2.5 mm
- AB Terminal with pre-installed metal plate
- Terminal Screw M4x27 (4 pcs)
Connecting the D-RGB LED Strip
Step 1
Diagram shows a 4-pin D-RGB connector being plugged into a D-RGB Header on a motherboard.
Action:
Plug the 4-pin D-RGB connector from the GPU water block into the D-RGB Header on your motherboard or controller.
Compatibility Note:
The LED strip will only work if the header pin layout is: +5V, Data, Empty, Ground.
Warning:
Incorrect installation or connection to a wrong header can damage the LED strip or the header itself.
