Connecting your device via Wi-Fi to your RV Wi-Fi WIFI 6
- Turn on your device (phone/laptop etc.) and go to its Wi-Fi settings.
- Select 'Settings' or the equivalent on your device.
- Click on 'Wi-Fi'. You may see the RV Wi-Fi network listed twice, once with '5G' included. This is because newer devices recognize both the faster 5G Wi-Fi and the standard 2.4 GHz band. Select the 5G option if available.
- You may need to set passwords for both network versions.
- You will be prompted for the Wi-Fi password or Security Key.
- Enter:
rvwifi1234
(all lowercase, no spaces). - Click the 'Connect Automatically' box if desired.
- Click 'Connect'.
Note: Your device may indicate that your Wi-Fi password is incorrect after changing it. This is normal. Re-enter the new Wi-Fi/Security Key password. Some devices may automatically capitalize the first letter, so ensure case sensitivity is handled correctly.
Setting your Wi-Fi Password
To enhance security, you can set a custom Wi-Fi password.
- Once connected to the router via Wi-Fi, open a web browser and enter
http://10.0.1.1
in the address bar. - The RV Wi-Fi home page will appear, prompting for authorization.
- Enter the username
root
(pre-populated) and the passwordadmin
. Failure to use these credentials may require a router reset. The 'root' password cannot be changed. - Navigate to the 'Network' tab, then select 'WiFi configuration' from the dropdown menu.
- You will see options for 'WiFi 2.4G' and 'WiFi 5G'. Click the 'CONFIG' box for the 2.4 GHz option first.
- Find the 'Key' heading. The default password is
rvwifi1234
. Delete this and enter your own password, which must be at least 8 characters and is case-sensitive. - Click the 'Save and Apply' button. The screen will indicate that it is 'waiting for configuration to apply'. A pop-up box will show the changes being applied; wait approximately 4 minutes.
- A second pop-up may indicate 'Collecting Data'. Wait the full 4 minutes.
- On your device, go back to Settings > Wi-Fi. Wait for the RV Wi-Fi network to appear.
- Enter your new Wi-Fi/Security Key password.
- Wait for your device to confirm connection.
- Repeat steps 6 through 9 for the 'WIFI 5G' network.
After applying changes, your device may show as 'Device Unreachable' temporarily as it reconnects.
Frequently Asked Questions
SIM CARDS
- What size SIM card should I use? A Nano-sized SIM card.
- What if I insert the wrong sized SIM card? Only Nano-sized SIM cards will fit.
- Do I need a SIM card to operate the Wi-Fi? An activated SIM is required for cellular tower internet connectivity. It is not needed if you are only sending information to a Wi-Fi device like a printer.
- Can my DishyDock Router connect via a SIM card? No, the DishyDock Router works exclusively with the Starlink Antenna and Cable.
- How do I know what is providing my internet? If the Starlink Antenna Cable is plugged in, it provides the internet. If the cable is removed and cellular access is available, the 4G/5G will be the source (for 4G/5G routers).
- Always turn your router off and on again after making adjustments to the SIM card. This allows the router to re-read the SIM card.
WHAT IS AN SSID?
The SSID is the NAME of your router.
WHY ARE THERE TWO SSID'S?
There are two SSID's for RV Wi-Fi 5G: 'RV WIFI 5G abc123' and 'RV WIFI abc123'. These represent different Wi-Fi frequencies: 5.8 GHz (faster, shorter range) and 2.4 GHz (slower, longer range). It is recommended to connect to the 5.8 GHz network first if available.
DO I HAVE TO SET UP WIFI PASSWORDS ON BOTH SSID'S?
Yes, you need to set up passwords for both networks. Follow the instructions for one, then repeat for the second.
RESETTING
- If experiencing issues, turn the router off and on again.
- FACTORY RESET: Press and hold the reset button for 10 seconds. Release the button and wait 3 minutes. Turn the router off, then on again, and wait 3 minutes for it to reboot. The SSID will change to 'WIFIabc123' (previously 'RV WIFIabc123'). Use 'rvwifi1234' as the password.
OPERATIONAL ISSUES
- Why can't I get onto the internet? Possible causes include: inserting the wrong size SIM card, or the SIM card not being activated. Try the SIM in another device to check activation. Ensure your SIM card has sufficient data. Check for SIM card expiry. If issues persist, there might be a modem fault.
- Troubleshooting Connection Issues: If you cannot connect, perform a reset and restart the process. If the Wi-Fi was accidentally deleted during setup, the router may need to be returned for reactivation. If you entered a custom password instead of 'admin' in the password section, the router may also need reactivation.
- Can I change the ROOT username? No, this setting cannot be changed. Security is maintained as the access website (
http://10.0.1.1
) is router-based. - My Wi-Fi password is not being accepted: Perform a factory reset. Ensure your Wi-Fi password is at least 8 characters and is case-sensitive. Be mindful of automatic capitalization by some devices.
Changing Your Router's SSID/Name
You can change your router's name (SSID) by:
- Going to the homepage:
http://10.0.1.1
- Entering username:
admin
- Clicking 'login'
- Clicking 'Wireless'
- Clicking 'Edit' for the SSID you want to change.
