The Basics
Volta (Battery Grip/Tripod/Remote) Overview
The Volta is a versatile accessory that combines a battery grip, tripod, and remote control for your GoPro camera.
Key Components:
- 1. Camera Mounting Fingers: Securely attach your GoPro.
- 2. LED Battery/Camera Status Indicators: Display battery level and camera status.
- 3. Bluetooth® Button: Used for wireless pairing and control.
- 4. Flip-Out Mounting Fingers: Provide additional mounting options.
- 5. Mode Button: Cycles through camera modes.
- 6. Tripod Legs: Built-in legs for stable, stationary shots.
- 7. 1/4-20 Mount: Standard tripod mount for flexible positioning.
- 8. Camera Cable: Connects Volta to your GoPro.
- 9. Battery Status Button: Press to check Volta's battery level.
- 10. Shutter Button: Captures photos or starts/stops video recording.
- 11. USB Charging Port (Under Port Cover): For charging Volta.
- 12. Lanyard Attachment Point: For securing with a wrist lanyard.
Thumb Screw: Secures your GoPro to Volta.
USB Pass-Through Door: Allows you to plug your GoPro into Volta while maintaining weather resistance for rain and snow.
Charging
To charge Volta:
- Flip open the USB charging port cover.
- Insert the included USB cable into the port.
- Connect the other end of the cable to a computer or other USB power source.
Press the Battery Status (? icon) button to check the charge status.

- Power output: 5Vdc/2.4A (12W max)
- Charge time: 3 hours
A fully charged Volta can triple a fully charged camera's normal battery life.
Heads Up: Ensure the computer is connected to a power source. If Volta is not charging, try a different USB port.
⚠️ CAUTION: Ensure the USB-C port is dry before inserting the cable.
Mounting Your GoPro
Installing the USB Pass-Through Door
Replace your camera's standard door with the included USB Pass-Through Door.
- Unlock the latch and flip the door open.
- With the door horizontal, gently pull outward until it snaps off.
- Align the USB Pass-Through Door with the small silver bar on the camera.
- Press the door firmly into the silver bar until it snaps into place and is securely attached.
WARNING: The USB Pass-Through Door protects against rain and snow but is not waterproof. Using it underwater will damage your camera and void the warranty.
Attaching Your Camera
- Mount your GoPro to Volta using the top mounting fingers.
Heads Up: Insert your camera with the USB Pass-Through Door on the side opposite the Thumb Screw to prevent the screw from blocking the USB port. Rotate mounting fingers if needed.
- Plug Volta's USB cable into your camera.
Your camera will start charging immediately upon connection.
Using Volta to Control Your GoPro
Wired Control
Volta's integrated buttons offer one-hand control of your GoPro:
- Press the Battery (? icon) button to wake Volta.
- Press Volta's Mode (⚙️ icon) button to turn your GoPro on.
- Press the Mode (⚙️ icon) button repeatedly to cycle through desired modes.
- Press Volta's Shutter (? icon) button to start capturing.
- To stop capturing video or time lapse, press the Shutter (? icon) button again.
Wireless Control
Use Bluetooth to operate Volta as a wireless remote. Detach your GoPro from Volta and follow these steps:
- On your camera:
- From the rear screen, swipe down to access the Dashboard.
- Swipe left, then tap Connections > Connect Device > Volta.
- Press the Bluetooth (? icon) button on Volta. Your camera will begin pairing automatically.
After pairing, Volta and your camera will connect automatically when both are powered on.
Heads Up: Volta can only connect to one camera at a time.
PRO TIP: After detaching your GoPro, plug Volta's USB cable into the charging port to keep it tidy.
WARNING: Volta is not weather resistant when used as a wireless remote or when the USB-C cable is disconnected from your camera.
Tripod
Flip out the built-in tripod legs anytime you need to set Volta down for stationary shots. You can swivel or tilt your camera to adjust the capture angle.
PRO TIP: Volta's extended battery life and tripod legs are ideal for capturing extra-long time lapse shots.
Mounting Volta
Retractable Mounting Fingers
Volta's retractable mounting fingers make it easy to attach to GoPro backpack straps, Chesty mounts, and other accessories.
1/4-20 Mount
Volta features a 1/4-20 mount built into its base for flexible mounting options.
Lanyard
Use the hole in Volta's base to secure the included wrist lanyard.
Using Volta with Media Mod
To use Volta with a GoPro Media Mod:
- Insert your GoPro into the Media Mod as usual.
- Use your camera's mounting fingers to attach the GoPro/Media Mod assembly to Volta.
- Plug Volta's USB-C cable into the USB-C port on the back of your Media Mod.
Heads Up: To utilize Volta's built-in camera controls with your GoPro and Media Mod, connect Volta to your camera via Bluetooth.
WARNING: Volta is not weather resistant when used with a Media Mod.
Resetting Volta
If you need to reset Volta, press and hold the Mode (⚙️ icon) and Shutter (? icon) buttons simultaneously for 8 seconds.
Notes
Important considerations for using Volta:
- Volta's camera mounting fingers swivel. Rotate your GoPro to align the camera buttons for right-handed or left-handed control.
- Volta enters sleep mode if camera controls are not used for a prolonged period. Tap the Battery (? icon) button to wake it.
- Your camera cannot be connected to Volta and the Quik app simultaneously. Turn off Volta's Bluetooth to connect to the app, or disconnect the app to connect Volta.
- QuikCapture is not available using Volta's Shutter (? icon) button. Use the camera's dedicated Shutter button for QuikCapture.
Your VOLTA is designed to detect overheating and will stop working if necessary. Allow it to cool down before resuming use.
The operating ambient temperature range for VOLTA is 14°F to 95°F (-10°C to 35°C). The charging temperature range is 32°F to 95°F (0°C to 35°C).
WARNING: Volta is not waterproof. Using it underwater with your GoPro will damage your camera and void the warranty.
