GoPro Volta Battery Grip/Tripod/Remote User Guide

Your guide to using the GoPro Volta for enhanced camera functionality.

The First Step

Before using Volta, ensure your GoPro camera's software is up-to-date. Visit gopro.com/update for step-by-step instructions.

The Basics

Volta (Battery Grip/Tripod/Remote) Overview

The Volta is a versatile accessory that combines a battery grip, tripod, and remote control for your GoPro camera.

Key Components:

Thumb Screw: Secures your GoPro to Volta.

USB Pass-Through Door: Allows you to plug your GoPro into Volta while maintaining weather resistance for rain and snow.

Charging

To charge Volta:

  1. Flip open the USB charging port cover.
  2. Insert the included USB cable into the port.
  3. Connect the other end of the cable to a computer or other USB power source.

Press the Battery Status (? icon) button to check the charge status.

Technical Specifications:

A fully charged Volta can triple a fully charged camera's normal battery life.

Heads Up: Ensure the computer is connected to a power source. If Volta is not charging, try a different USB port.

⚠️ CAUTION: Ensure the USB-C port is dry before inserting the cable.

Mounting Your GoPro

Installing the USB Pass-Through Door

Replace your camera's standard door with the included USB Pass-Through Door.

  1. Unlock the latch and flip the door open.
  2. With the door horizontal, gently pull outward until it snaps off.
  3. Align the USB Pass-Through Door with the small silver bar on the camera.
  4. Press the door firmly into the silver bar until it snaps into place and is securely attached.

WARNING: The USB Pass-Through Door protects against rain and snow but is not waterproof. Using it underwater will damage your camera and void the warranty.

Attaching Your Camera

  1. Mount your GoPro to Volta using the top mounting fingers.

Heads Up: Insert your camera with the USB Pass-Through Door on the side opposite the Thumb Screw to prevent the screw from blocking the USB port. Rotate mounting fingers if needed.

  1. Plug Volta's USB cable into your camera.

Your camera will start charging immediately upon connection.

Using Volta to Control Your GoPro

Wired Control

Volta's integrated buttons offer one-hand control of your GoPro:

  1. Press the Battery (? icon) button to wake Volta.
  2. Press Volta's Mode (⚙️ icon) button to turn your GoPro on.
  3. Press the Mode (⚙️ icon) button repeatedly to cycle through desired modes.
  4. Press Volta's Shutter (? icon) button to start capturing.
  5. To stop capturing video or time lapse, press the Shutter (? icon) button again.

Wireless Control

Use Bluetooth to operate Volta as a wireless remote. Detach your GoPro from Volta and follow these steps:

  1. On your camera:
    1. From the rear screen, swipe down to access the Dashboard.
    2. Swipe left, then tap Connections > Connect Device > Volta.
  2. Press the Bluetooth (? icon) button on Volta. Your camera will begin pairing automatically.

After pairing, Volta and your camera will connect automatically when both are powered on.

Heads Up: Volta can only connect to one camera at a time.

PRO TIP: After detaching your GoPro, plug Volta's USB cable into the charging port to keep it tidy.

WARNING: Volta is not weather resistant when used as a wireless remote or when the USB-C cable is disconnected from your camera.

Tripod

Flip out the built-in tripod legs anytime you need to set Volta down for stationary shots. You can swivel or tilt your camera to adjust the capture angle.

PRO TIP: Volta's extended battery life and tripod legs are ideal for capturing extra-long time lapse shots.

Mounting Volta

Retractable Mounting Fingers

Volta's retractable mounting fingers make it easy to attach to GoPro backpack straps, Chesty mounts, and other accessories.

1/4-20 Mount

Volta features a 1/4-20 mount built into its base for flexible mounting options.

Lanyard

Use the hole in Volta's base to secure the included wrist lanyard.

Using Volta with Media Mod

To use Volta with a GoPro Media Mod:

  1. Insert your GoPro into the Media Mod as usual.
  2. Use your camera's mounting fingers to attach the GoPro/Media Mod assembly to Volta.
  3. Plug Volta's USB-C cable into the USB-C port on the back of your Media Mod.

Heads Up: To utilize Volta's built-in camera controls with your GoPro and Media Mod, connect Volta to your camera via Bluetooth.

WARNING: Volta is not weather resistant when used with a Media Mod.

Resetting Volta

If you need to reset Volta, press and hold the Mode (⚙️ icon) and Shutter (? icon) buttons simultaneously for 8 seconds.
