Long-Range Remote Control for Your GoPro
The Basics
The remote features the following:
- 1. Status Light: Indicates the remote's status.
- 2. Power/Mode Button: Used to turn the remote on/off and cycle through modes.
- 3. Remote Status Screen: Displays information about the remote.
- 4. Shutter/Select Button: Used to capture photos/videos or select options.
- 5. Settings/Tag Button: Used to access settings or add HiLight Tags.
- 6. Charging Port/Attachment Key Slot: For charging and attaching the remote.
Wearing the Smart Remote
The Smart Remote can be attached using a strap or a key and ring.
Attaching to the Strap
The attachment strap secures the remote to your wrist, backpack straps, ski poles, bike frames, and more.
- Thread the strap through the slots on the back of the remote.
- Position the remote along the strap as shown.
Attaching Using the Key + Ring
The attachment key and ring secure the remote to your lanyards, straps, car keys, zippers, and more.
- Slide and hold the latch lever in the direction of the arrow (A), then pull the key out of the remote (B).
- Attach the ring to your lanyard, straps, etc.
- Push the attachment key into the key slot until it clicks.
Charging
- Slide and hold the latch lever in the direction of the arrow (A), then pull the key out of the remote (B).
- Insert the charging cable into the remote until it clicks into place.
- Connect the other end of the cable to a computer or other USB power source. Ensure the computer is connected to a power source. If the remote status screen does not indicate charging, use a different USB port.
Powering On + Off
- Powering On: Press the Power/Mode button.
- Powering Off: Press and hold the Power/Mode button for two seconds.
Pairing the Remote and Your GoPro
You can pair the Smart Remote with any wireless-enabled GoPro. The remote can control up to 50 cameras at a time from up to 600ft (180m) away. Your camera recognizes only one remote at a time. The Smart Remote is waterproof to 33ft (10m).

Pairing with Fusion
- Power off the remote.
- On your camera, go to Settings > Connections > Connect, then select SmrtRC. The camera will begin pairing.
- Power on the remote. If not previously paired, it will start pairing automatically. Otherwise, press and hold the Settings/Tag button for four seconds to begin pairing. A confirmation appears on each screen once paired.
Pairing with HERO7 Black
- Power off the remote.
- On your camera, go to Preferences > Connections > Connect Device > Smart Remote. The camera will begin pairing automatically.
- Power on the remote. Pairing starts automatically if not previously paired. Otherwise, press and hold the Settings/Tag button for four seconds to initiate pairing. A confirmation appears on each screen once paired.
Pairing with HERO6 Black or HERO5 Black
- Power off the remote.
- On your camera, go to Connections > Connect New Device > Smart Remote. The camera will begin pairing automatically.
- Power on the remote. Pairing starts automatically if not previously paired. Otherwise, press and hold the Settings/Tag button for four seconds to initiate pairing. A confirmation appears on each screen once paired.
Connecting the Remote and Your GoPro
After pairing, follow these steps to connect in the future. The camera connects to the most recently connected remote.
Connecting with Fusion
- Power on the remote and camera.
- On your camera, go to Settings > Connections > Turn On > Yes to enable wireless. Then navigate to Done.
Connecting with HERO7 Black
- Power on the remote and camera.
- On your camera, go to Preferences > Connections > Wireless Connections to turn on wireless.
Connecting with HERO6 Black or HERO5 Black
- Power on the remote and camera.
- On your camera, go to Connections > Wireless Connections to turn on wireless.
Capturing Video and Photos
Use the remote to capture video and photos with one or multiple cameras.
To Capture Video or Photos:
- Press the Power/Mode button ⚙️ repeatedly to cycle to the desired mode.
- Press the Shutter/Select button ▶️ to begin capturing.
- To stop capturing video or time lapse content, press the Shutter/Select button ▶️ again.
If your camera goes out of range while recording, recording continues until you stop it.
PRO TIP: Add HiLight Tags to quickly find highlights during playback and editing. While recording, press the Settings/Tag button ?️ to add a HiLight Tag.*
*HiLight Tags are not available on all GoPro camera models.
Features Not Available with GoPro Remote:
- QuikCapture
- Continuous photo with multiple cameras
- Manually capturing photos while recording video with multiple cameras
