Hyundai Ioniq Plug-in Quick Reference Guide

This guide provides essential information for operating your Hyundai Ioniq Plug-in. For detailed information, please refer to your vehicle's Owner's Manual.

Features and Controls

Smart Key

Lock/Unlock: Press the lock button once to lock all doors. Press the unlock button once to unlock the driver's door, or twice within 4 seconds to unlock all doors. The smart key must be within approximately 90 feet of the vehicle. For driver's door lock/unlock, the key must be within 28-40 inches of the outside door handle.

Liftgate Unlock: Press and hold the button to unlock the tailgate.

Panic: Press to activate the panic alarm.

Mechanical Key Removal: Press and hold the release button (A) to remove the mechanical key.

Engine Start/Stop Button

With the ignition OFF and foot off the brake pedal:

  • Press once for ACC (Accessory) mode.
  • Press twice for ON mode.
  • Press a third time for OFF mode.

To start the vehicle in any mode, press the Engine Start/Stop button while pressing the brake pedal. To turn off the vehicle, place the shift lever in P (Park) and press the button. In emergency situations, press and hold for over 2 seconds or press 3 times consecutively within 3 seconds to turn off while moving. To restart while moving, press the button with the shift lever in N (Neutral).

Steering Wheel Adjustments

Note: Do not adjust while driving.

  1. Pull the lever down.
  2. Set the angle and distance.
  3. Pull the lever up to lock the position.

Front Seat Adjustment (Manual)

  • Forward and backward: Use the lever under the seat.
  • Seat height: Push down or pull up the lever.
  • Seatback angle: Use the lever on the side of the seat.

Front Seat Adjustment (Power)

  • Forward and backward: Use the control for forward/backward movement.
  • Seat height: Use the control for seat height adjustment.
  • Seatback angle: Use the control for seatback angle adjustment.
  • Lumbar support: Use the control for lumbar support adjustment.

Headrest Adjustment

  • To Raise: Pull the headrest up.
  • To Lower: Press the lock button while pressing down on the headrest.

Seat Belt Adjustment (Front Seat)

Pull up to raise the seat belt anchor.

Rear Seat Folding

Press the button and push the seat back down.

Seat Warmer (Front Seat)

Press the button to cycle through OFF, HIGH, MIDDLE, LOW settings. Press and hold the button to turn it off immediately.

Driver Position Memory System

Storing: Adjust seat, mirrors, and illumination. Press SET button (beep once). Press memory button (1 or 2) within 4 seconds (beep twice). Shift lever must be in P (Park).

Recalling: Press the desired memory button (1 or 2) (beep once).

Driver's Main Controls

  • Side view mirror: Press L or R button, then use the directional switch.
  • Power window lock button: Disables rear passenger door window switches.
  • Door lock: Locks/unlocks all doors.
  • Window switches: Control front and rear power windows.

High Voltage Battery Cooling Duct

Located on the left side of the rear seats. Do not obstruct the cooling duct with objects.

Charging the Vehicle

General Steps:

  1. Move shift lever to P (Park), turn off all switches, and turn OFF the vehicle.
  2. Press the center edge of the charging door to open it (door opens when vehicle is unlocked).
  3. Insert charging connector until it clicks.
  4. Connect charging plug to outlet to start charging.
  5. Check the charging cable indicator light on the instrument cluster.

Unlock Charging Connector in Emergency: If the connector fails to disconnect, open the hood and slightly pull the emergency cable.

Level 1 Charger: Connect plug to a household electric outlet. Check power lamp (green) on control box. Insert charging connector. Charging starts automatically (charging lamp blinks). Check instrument cluster indicator.

Fuel Filler Door

  1. Push the fuel filler door opener button.
  2. Wait up to 20 seconds for depressurization.
  3. Remove fuel tank cap. Tighten cap until one click is heard.

Child-Protector Rear Door Lock

  • Lock: Insert key into hole and turn to lock position.
  • Unlock: Insert key into hole and turn clockwise to unlock position.

Liftgate Opening

Press the button to open. Smart key must be within range. Press and hold button to unlock tailgate.

HomeLink Wireless Control System

Standard Programming:

  1. For first-time programming, press and hold the two outside buttons (Channel 1 and 3) until the indicator light flashes (after 10 seconds). Release.
  2. Position transmitter 1-3 inches from HomeLink buttons.
  3. Simultaneously press and hold HomeLink and transmitter buttons.
  4. Observe the red indicator Status LED; it will flash slowly then rapidly when trained. Release both buttons.

Sunroof

  • Sliding: Press switch backward past detent to open completely; press forward past detent to close completely. The sunshade opens automatically with the glass panel.
  • Tilting: Press switch up to tilt; pull switch forward to close.

Interior Lights

  • Front map lamp: Push switch to turn on/off.
  • Front door lamp: Lights turn on when any door is open.
  • Front room lamp: Push switch to turn on/off.

Headlights

  • Functions: Parking lights, Auto headlights, All Lights Off, Headlight Delay (may stay on for 15 seconds after exiting/locking; press lock button twice to turn off).
  • Turn signals/lane change signals: Operate the lever.
  • High beams: Pull lever towards you to activate. Pull towards you again to turn off.

Dynamic Bending Light (DBL)

DBL swivels and levels headlamps based on steering angle and vehicle speed. Turn DBL on by turning the knob to AUTO when the vehicle is in ready mode. Turn off by returning the knob to the former position.

Wipers and Washer

  • Wiper Control: Move switch down to one of three positions (INT, LO, HI). MIST: Single wipe. OFF: Off. INT: Intermittent wipe (adjust speed with control switch). LO: Low speed. HI: High speed.
  • Windshield Washer: Pull lever gently towards you to spray washer fluid and activate wipers for 1-3 cycles.

Instrument Cluster

Type A & Type B:

  • 1: Power gauge
  • 2: Speedometer
  • 3: Battery SOC (State of Charge) gauge
  • 4: Fuel gauge
  • 5: Warning and indicator lights
  • 6: LCD display (including Trip computer)

Warnings and Indicators

Key indicators include:

  • Ready indicator: Illuminates when vehicle is ready to drive.
  • EV mode indicator: Illuminates when driven by electric motor.
  • Service warning light: Illuminates if hybrid system has a problem.
  • Charging cable connection indicator (Plug-in Hybrid): Illuminates red when charging cable is connected.
  • Other common indicators: Parking brake/brake fluid, Airbag, ABS, MIL, Low fuel, Master warning, Immobilizer, Seat belt, EBD, Charging system, Engine coolant temperature, ESC, Turn signal, EPS, Engine oil pressure, Low tire pressure, ESC OFF, High beam, Cruise, Light ON, LED Headlight, Exterior light, Cruise SET, AEB, SPORT mode, LKAS, ECO mode.

Hybrid System Gauge

Indicates driving efficiency:

  • CHARGE: Energy made by vehicle converted to electrical energy (Regenerated energy).
  • ECO: Vehicle driven in an eco-friendly manner.
  • POWER: Vehicle exceeding eco-friendly range.

Hybrid Battery SOC (State Of Charge) Gauge

Indicates remaining hybrid battery power. If near 'L (Low)', the engine automatically operates to charge the battery.

Plug-in Hybrid Mode

Press the [EV/HEV] button to switch between Electric (CD - Charge Depleting) mode and Hybrid (CS - Charge Sustaining) mode.

Instrument Panel Illumination

Press the illumination control button to adjust brightness.

Aux. Battery Saver+

Monitors and charges the 12V auxiliary battery from the high-voltage battery if levels are low. Default is ON; can be cancelled via User Settings.

Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle System Modes

Access the PHEV menu on the home screen or main menu to select:

  • ECO driving: Displays fuel economy or ECO level.
  • Energy information: Displays battery and energy flow.
  • EV range: Displays possible driving distance on a map (Type B).
  • Charging settings: Menu to set charging times.
  • Charging stations: Lists nearby EV charging stations.
  • Gas stations: Lists nearby gas stations.
  • Settings: Select real-time information for the home screen.

LCD Display Control

  • MODE button: Changes modes.
  • MOVE switch: Changes items.
  • SELECT/RESET button: Sets or resets selected item.

LCD Display Modes

  • Type A Modes: Trip Computer, Turn By Turn (TBT), SCC/LKAS, A/V, Information, User Settings.
  • Type B Modes: Trip Computer, TBT, Assist (SCC/LKAS, Tire Pressure), User Settings, Warning.

Climate Control

  • 1: Driver's temperature control knob
  • 2: Passenger's temperature control knob
  • 3: AUTO (automatic control) button
  • 4: OFF button
  • 5: Front windshield defrost button
  • 6: Rear window defrost button
  • 7: Air conditioning button
  • 8: Air intake control button (Recirculated/Outside fresh air)
  • 9: Fan speed control button
  • 10: Mode selection button (air flow direction)
  • 11: Driver only button
  • 12: SYNC button (synchronizes driver/passenger settings)
  • 13: Climate control information screen

Defogging/Defrosting: Press front defrost button, set temperature to warmest, and fan speed to highest. Keep windshield clean and select outside air intake when possible.

Automatic Heating/Air Conditioning: Press AUTO button, set desired temperature. Controls modes, fan speeds, air intake, and AC automatically.

System OFF: Press OFF button. Blower turns off, outside air selected, vented air at last set temperature.

Bluetooth® Phone Pairing

With Display Audio: Press PHONE or CALL button. Search for device name on phone and pair. Confirm 6-digit passkey. Press OK on Bluetooth device. Vehicle must be parked.

With Navigation: Press CALL button. Pair phone after it detects the device. Enter passkey or accept popup. Connect Bluetooth. Vehicle must be parked.

Steering Wheel Audio Control

  • 1: VOLUME (+ / -)
  • 2: SEEK / PRESET ( / )
  • 3: MODE (audio source)
  • 4: MUTE ( )

Bluetooth® Phone Call Operational Tips

To avoid hearing issues, keep Bluetooth volume low, avoid rough roads/high speeds/open windows, and ensure AC vents are not directed at the overhead console.

Answering a Call: Press button on steering wheel.

Rejecting a Call: Press button on steering wheel.

Adjusting Ring Volume: Use VOLUME buttons.

Transferring a Call to Phone: Press and hold button.

Finishing a Call: Press button.

Making a Call (Voice Recognition): Press button, say "Call " or "Dial Number" followed by the phone number.

Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are also available.

Voice Recognition Tips

Voice recognition allows hands-free operation. Performance may be affected by open windows, HVAC system, tunnels, or rough roads.

Commands: Call, Call <Name>, Dial Number, Dial <Phone #>.

Blue Link Telematics System

Requires subscription. Visit dealership or MyHyundai.com to enroll.

Press the button for voice-response menu: Service Link, Roadside Assistance, Blue Link Account, Help, Cancel.

Press the button for Destination Search (Powered by Google™) for navigation systems. For non-navigation, it functions with Android Auto or Apple Carplay.

Press the button for SOS Emergency Assistance.

MyHyundai with Blue Link App

Download the app from Apple App Store (iPhone) or Google Play (Android). Visit HyundaiBlueLink.com FAQs for compatible devices.

Remote Start: Remotely start vehicle. Can enable climate control and front window defroster. Requires Blue Link PIN (create/change at www.MyHyundai.com). Remote Start shuts off after 10 minutes or selected timer. Parking lights blink. Proximity key must be inside vehicle to drive. Not available on all models; requires Push Start, Automatic/DCT transmission, and Fully Automatic Temperature Control for climate control features.

Preconditions for Remote Start: Ignition OFF, Alarm armed, Gearshift in P, Brake pedal not depressed, Hood/doors/tailgate closed, no security system activation, proximity key not inside, battery not low, good cell reception, less than 4 days since ignition off.

Remote Start Termination: After timer, brake pressed without key inside, alarm triggered without key inside, door/trunk opened from inside.

Warning: Do not remote start in enclosed environments due to carbon monoxide risk. Do not leave children or animals unattended.

Caution: Turn wipers OFF before parking to avoid damage from ice/snow if remote start is activated.

Radio Mode

Display Audio / Navigation:

  • Press POWER button to turn on.
  • Tuning: Press BAND button (FM/AM/SiriusXM®), ROTATE TUNE knob.
  • Preset Memory: Press and hold preset button until beep.
  • Sound Control: Press SETUP, then SOUND button to adjust settings.

  • 1: Place button

Destination Search Screen:

  • 1: Address

  • 8: Address Book
  • 9: Coordinates

Press the NAV button, select [Destination] tab, and search.

AUX, USB and iPod® Port

Use the input jack to connect external audio devices.

Clock Adjustment

With Audio Type A/B: Press SETUP, select Date/Time. Set Time, Time Format, Set Date. For Type B, also DST and 24 Hours options.

With Navigation: Press SETUP, select Date/Time. Set Date/Time, GPS time, DST, 24 Hours options.

Wireless Cellular Phone Charging System

Located inside the front console. Operates with all doors closed and ignition in ACC/ON/START. Supports Qi-enabled phones. Do not place metallic items, coins, keys, or credit cards on the charger.

Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)

Indicators: LOW TIRE PRESSURE INDICATOR illuminates when tires are under-inflated. TPMS MALFUNCTION INDICATOR blinks then remains illuminated for system malfunctions.

Display: Tire pressures display after short driving distance. If low, indicator illuminates and display shows tires needing air. To check pressure, press Mode button on steering wheel, go to 'Information' or 'Assist' mode on LCD display.

Dual Clutch Transmission

Operation: Depress brake pedal and press shift button while moving shift lever (e.g., D, R). Press shift button while moving lever (e.g., N). Lever operates freely (e.g., P).

Manual Shift Mode: Shift from D to manual gate. Holds gears longer, downshifts at higher RPM for dynamic driving. Gasoline engine engages more frequently.

Characteristics: An automatically shifting manual transmission using two clutches. May produce clicking sounds during self-test (normal).

Hill Hold: Vehicle remains stationary for ~2 seconds when stopped on a hill after releasing brake. Depress accelerator to accelerate. If waiting >2 seconds, vehicle enters creep mode and may roll backward. Caution: Use foot brake to hold on hills; creep mode may damage clutch. Overheated clutch may cause shuddering and display blinking; pull over, shift to P, and apply foot brake to cool.

ECO/SPORT Mode

  • ECO Mode: Shift lever in D. ECO indicator illuminates. Improves fuel efficiency.
  • SPORT Mode: Shift lever in S. SPORT indicator illuminates. Provides more responsive performance; fuel efficiency may decrease.

Paddle Shifter

Available in D or S, or manual shift mode. Operates above 3 mph.

  • Press (-) to downshift.
  • Press (+) to upshift.

Coasting Guide

With factory-installed navigation, this feature informs the driver when to take foot off the accelerator by anticipating deceleration based on route analysis. Helps increase fuel efficiency by allowing EV motor coasting. Activate via "User Settings Driving Assist Coasting Guide". Operates between 25-100 mph.

Electronic Stability Control (ESC)

ESC is an electronic system to help maintain vehicle control. It is ON by default. Press ESC OFF button shortly to turn off Traction Control. Press and hold for >3 seconds to turn off Traction & Stability Control.

Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS)

Detects lane markers with a camera and assists steering to keep the vehicle between lanes. Operates between 40-110 mph. Press LKAS switch to turn on; press again to turn off. LKAS may not activate in poor lane conditions, heavy fog, etc. Refer to Owner's Manual for details.

Rear View Camera

When the shift lever is moved to R (Reverse), the rear view camera displays the area behind the vehicle.

Virtual Engine Sound System (VESS)

Generates engine sound for pedestrians to hear the vehicle, as there is limited sound from electric power.

Blind Spot Detection System (BSD)

Uses radar sensors to monitor the rear area and alert the driver. Activates above 20 mph.

  • Blind Spot Detection: Alerts to vehicles in blind spots.
  • Lane Change Assist: Alerts during lane changes.
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert: Alerts to approaching vehicles when in Reverse.

Press BSD button to turn on/off.

Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB)

Detects vehicles or pedestrians ahead via radar and camera. Warns driver of imminent collision and applies emergency braking if necessary. Activate via "User Settings Driving Assist Forward Collision Warning Autonomous Emergency Braking" (Type A) or "User Settings Driving Assist Autonomous Emergency Braking" (Type B). System deactivates when setting is canceled.

Note: AEB primarily assists braking, not full automatic stopping. High speeds may still result in a crash.

Cruise Control / Smart Cruise Control

Cruise Control: Maintains constant speed without accelerator pedal. Press "CRUISE" button (1) to turn on. Toggle switch UP (+RES) to Resume/Increase speed. Toggle DOWN (-SET) to Set/Decrease speed. Press "CANCEL" button (4) or brake pedal to cancel.

Smart Cruise Control (SCC): Sets and maintains vehicle-to-vehicle distance. Press button to set distance (1-4, shortest to longest). Distance automatically activates when cruise speed is set.

Hybrid Driving Tips

  • Maintain tire pressure.
  • Roll windows up when driving.
  • Properly maintain your vehicle.
  • Turn A/C off when not needed.
  • Set headlight switch to AUTO or OFF when not in use to preserve battery charge.
  • Use DRIVER ONLY button with no front passenger to reduce energy consumption.
  • Drive smoothly, accelerate moderately, maintain speed with traffic, and maintain safe following distance to avoid unnecessary braking.
  • Try to drive in EV Mode as much as possible.

Scheduled Maintenance

Note: Check the engine oil regularly between recommended oil changes. Hyundai recommends Quaker State oil. See Owner's Manual for details.

  • Set Tire Pressure (LF, RF, RR, LR).
  • Verify vehicle is clean, in good condition, free of chips and scratches.
  • Clean windshield and back window.
  • Ensure floor mats are snapped into place.
