This manual provides detailed instructions for the installation of ZLINE Dual Fuel Ranges, RA Models. Please read all instructions carefully before proceeding with the installation.

Important Safety Instructions

Gas Safety:

  • WARNING: Failure to follow these instructions may result in fire or explosion, causing property damage, personal injury, or death.
  • Do not store or use gasoline or other flammable vapors and liquids near this or any other appliance.
  • What to do if you smell gas:
    • Do not try to light any appliance.
    • Do not touch any electrical switch.
    • Do not use any phone in your building.
    • Immediately call your gas supplier from a neighbor's phone and follow their instructions.
    • If you cannot reach your gas supplier, call the fire department.
  • Installation and service must be performed by a qualified installer, service agency, or the gas supplier.

General Safety:

  • WARNING: Never operate the top surface cooking section unattended.
  • WARNING: Never use this appliance as a space heater.
  • WARNING: Never cover slots, holes, or passages in the oven bottom or racks with materials like aluminum foil, as this blocks airflow and can cause carbon monoxide poisoning or a fire hazard.
  • If a gas leak is detected, refer to the "WHAT TO DO IF YOU SMELL GAS" section.
  • Installation and service must be performed by a qualified installer, servicer, or gas supplier.
  • Know how to shut off the gas supply at the meter and disconnect electrical power at the circuit breaker or fuse box in case of an emergency.
  • If the appliance is near a window, never hang long curtains or paper blinds that could blow over the burners and ignite.
  • Keep the appliance area clear of combustible materials, gasoline, and other flammable vapors and liquids.

Ventilation Safety:

  • The use of a gas cooking appliance generates heat and humidity. An range hood may be used, installed according to national and local standards.
  • Maintain a 30" (762 mm) minimum clearance between the cooking surface and the bottom of the hood if a range hood is installed with ducting.
  • Exhaust hood operation may affect other vented appliances.
  • Intensive and continuous use may require additional ventilation, such as opening a window.

Oven Safety:

  • Never pour cold water onto hot surfaces in a hot oven to avoid burns from steam and potential damage to the oven enamel.
  • It is recommended to heat the oven to approximately 400 °F (204 °C) for 2 hours before first use, then wipe with hot water and a kitchen-safe cleaner. Clean racks and shelves before use.
  • Initial use may produce a smell or noises as residual oil burns off and new parts settle.

Cooking and Range Top Safety:

  • This product is intended for cooking food only.
  • Do not place unstable or deformed pans on burners.
  • Exercise caution when cooking with oil or fat.
  • Ensure knobs are in the OFF position when the appliance is not in use.
  • Disconnect the appliance and allow it to cool before maintenance and cleaning.
  • Keep the appliance clean for hygiene and safety.
  • Avoid spraying cleaning products directly onto electrical wiring, thermostats, or bulbs.
  • Clean up spills in the oven bottom before cooking to prevent smoke or fire.
  • Ensure adequate air circulation around the gas appliance; poor ventilation can lead to lack of oxygen and extinguish the flame.
  • Supply the appliance with the correct type of gas as indicated on the label.
  • The appliance is heavy (approx. 250 lb/113 kg); move it carefully.
  • Light burners before placing pans and check for regular flames.
  • Always lower the flame or turn it off before removing the pan.
  • Do not store items of interest to children above or behind the appliance.
  • Do not use decorative surface burner covers, as they can become hot and cause burns.
  • Do not use stove top grills on the gas appliance, as this may cause incomplete combustion and carbon monoxide exposure.
  • Never leave children unattended when the appliance is hot or in operation.
  • Do not let anyone climb, stand, or hang on the unit, as this can cause damage or severe injury.
  • Never modify or alter the appliance's construction.
  • Do not wear loose-fitting or hanging garments while using the appliance.
  • Only use suitable cookware (glass, glass/ceramic, ceramic, earthenware) that can withstand sudden temperature changes.
  • DO NOT install the unit without securing it to the cabinetry or wall with the anti-tip chains.

Before Installation

Product Dimensions:

  • Diagrams show external and internal dimensions for RA models.
  • Product width ("A") varies by model (RA24, RA30, RA36, RA48, RA60).
  • Refer to the table for specific dimensions by range size.
  • Product heights are based on legs at their lowest settings.

Gas Supply:

  • Installation must be performed by an authorized professional.
  • A flexible metal appliance connection (AGA or CGA certified, 3/4" (19 mm)) is recommended. Do not bend or damage the connector.
  • Use the provided pressure regulator. It must be accessible and set for the type of gas used. The regulator has a 1/2" (13 mm) connection.
  • Isolate the appliance from the gas supply piping system by closing the manual shut-off valve during pressure testing.
  • Seal all opening holes in the wall and floor.
  • A manual shut-off valve must be installed in an accessible location in the gas line.
  • WARNING: Do not use aerosol sprays near the appliance when it is hot.
  • Diagrams illustrate the pressure regulator.

Room Ventilation:

  • Exhaust fans may be used, installed according to national and local standards.
  • Ensure proper ventilation for optimal combustion.

Type of Gas:

  • The appliance is shipped for natural gas use. Conversion to liquid propane gas requires following the procedure on page 21.

Gas Pressure:

  • Maximum inlet gas supply pressure to the regulator is 1/2 psi (3.4 kPa).
  • Minimum gas supply pressure for checking regulator setting is 1" W.C.P. (0.25 kPa) above manifold pressure.
  • Operating pressure: 4" W.C.P. (1 kPa) for natural gas, 10" W.C.P. (2.75 kPa) for liquid propane gas.
  • Range top requires 6" (152 mm) minimum side wall spacing above counter height.
  • Consult local building codes for variations.

Installation

Installing the Legs:

  • Ranges must be used with properly installed legs. Height-adjustable legs are included.
  • Legs are 4" (102 mm) tall and adjustable up to 2 1/2" (64 mm) for a maximum height of 6 1/2" (165 mm).
  • Position the appliance near its final location before installing legs.
  • 1. Raise the range to insert legs into receptacles on the lower part. Lower gently.
  • 2. Adjust leg height by twisting the inside portion until the desired level is reached. Check with a level.
  • Some ranges have attachable square leg covers. Loosen the round leg, align the square leg, and slide in. Adjust until flush with the ground.
  • NOTE: If the range is not level, cooking will be uneven. Ensure legs are at the same height.

Installing the Anti-Tip System:

  • Chains must be secured to studs on the rear wall.
  • Determine chain height after adjusting legs and leveling the range.
  • WARNING: A child or adult can tip the range, causing fatal injury. Adjust chains carefully.
  • 1. Measure distance from floor to where chains connect on the appliance.
  • 2. Position chain ends on the wall at desired height, adding 1/8" (3 mm) for stability. Mark locations. Chains must be placed 2 1/4" (57 mm) from the back of the range.
  • 3. Pre-drill holes at marked locations.
  • 4. Slide range against the wall, feed screws through chains, and tighten.
  • 5. Check chain connection by attempting to tilt the range forward.
  • 6. Secure range with screws through the false exhaust plate at the top rear edge if needed.
  • NOTE: If the wall is unsuitable, fix chains/screws to an appropriate cabinet structure.

Installation Requirements and Cutouts:

  • Gas Valve Location: Install an agency-approved manual shut-off valve no higher than 3" (76 mm) above the floor and 2"-8" (51-203 mm) from the right side of the range. Use an agency-approved flexible or rigid pipe for connection. Check local codes.
  • Installation Adjacent to Kitchen Cabinets:
    • The range can be installed adjacent to standard countertop heights of 36" (914 mm).
    • For best appearance, the range top should be level with the countertop. Adjust leg height as needed.
    • NOTE: The range CANNOT be installed directly adjacent to kitchen walls, tall cabinets, or other vertical surfaces above 36" (914 mm) high. Minimum side clearance is 6" (152 mm).
    • Wall cabinets must be installed 18" (457 mm) above the countertop. Countertop height should be between 35 1/2" and 37 1/4" (901-946 mm). Maximum wall cabinet depth is 13" (330 mm).
    • For cutout depth, the recommendation is 24" (610 mm) for optimal door opening.
    • Cutout width recommendations are slightly larger than product widths for minimal clearance. Adjust as needed for kitchen layouts: RA24: 24" (610 mm), RA30: 30" (762 mm), RA36: 36" (914 mm), RA48: 48" (1219 mm), RA60: 60" (1524 mm).
    • WARNING: Do not install ranges in an island configuration. Exposed areas can become hot and cause injury.

Minimum Cutout Width:

  • Table provides external and internal dimensions for RA models based on range size.
  • Diagrams illustrate side and front views with cutout dimensions.

Electric Power Rating:

  • Table lists amperage, VAC, and plug type for each RA series range.
  • A properly grounded NEMA 14-50P electrical outlet should be installed behind the range.
  • Diagram shows electrical connections.

Electrical Grounding:

  • The oven has a four-prong plug for safety. Plug directly into a properly grounded receptacle. Do not remove the ground prong.
  • WARNING: Disconnect electrical power before installation. Provide appropriate ground. Use copper conductors only.

Gas Connection:

  • All gas connections must comply with national and local codes.
  • The gas supply line must be the same size or greater than the appliance inlet (1/2" (13 mm) NPT). Use appropriate sealant.
  • The range is shipped for natural gas. Conversion to liquid propane gas must be done by a factory-trained professional or qualified plumber.
  • Gas conversion is crucial for safe and effective use. The owner is responsible for performing the conversion according to manufacturer directions.
  • The conversion procedure is in this manual and with the conversion orifices.
  • Provide this manual to the service person before work begins.
  • NOTES:
    • Leak testing must be conducted according to manufacturer instructions.
    • Check for leaks with a soapy water solution. Bubbles indicate a leak.
    • WARNING: DO NOT use an open flame when checking for leaks.

Manual Shut-Off Valve:

  • The installer must provide and install this valve in the gas service line for quick access in emergencies.
  • In Massachusetts, a T-handle manual gas shut-off valve is required.

Flexible Connections:

  • Use a heavy-duty, AGA-certified flexible connector (at least 1/2" (13 mm) NPT) with strain relief.
  • In Massachusetts, a 36" (914 mm) flexible gas connector is required.
  • In Canada, use CAN 1-6, 10-88 metal connectors and CAN 1-6.9, M79 quick disconnect devices.

Pressure Test Point Stopper Valve:

  • The supplied valve and gasket are installed on the gas fitting at the back of the range.
  • Diagrams illustrate the gas connection adaptor and stopper.

Pressure Regulator:

  • A convertible pressure regulator is supplied for natural gas (4" W.C.P.) or liquid propane gas (10" W.C.P.).
  • The regulator must be accessible and set correctly for the gas type.
  • Manifold pressure should be checked with a manometer.
  • Natural gas: 4" W.C.P. (1 kPa).
  • Liquid propane gas: 10" W.C.P. (2.45 kPa).
  • Incoming line pressure must be 1" W.C.P. (0.25 kPa) higher than manifold pressure.
  • The regulator can withstand a maximum input pressure of 1/2 psi (3.4 kPa). A step-down regulator may be needed if line pressure exceeds this.
  • Disconnect the appliance and shut-off valve from the gas line during pressure testing exceeding 1/2 psi.
  • WARNING: Disconnect from gas and electricity before conversion. Conversion must be done by a factory-trained professional.

Liquid Propane Conversion Procedure

The conversion procedure includes: Pressure Regulator, Surface Burners, and Flame Adjustment.

Before conversion, locate the package with replacement orifices. Consult the table on page 21 for matching orifices to burners. Save removed orifices.

LPG: Liquid Propane Gas

NG: Natural Gas

Reference diagrams based on the range's manufacturing date (before or after May 2021). Check the rating label under the front edge or back of the unit.

Diagrams show orifice sizes (LPG/NG) for different burner types (Dual, Semi-Rapid, Rapid, Auxiliary, Fish) for ranges manufactured before and after May 2021.

Step 1: Pressure Regulator

  • The supplied regulator is convertible for natural gas or liquid propane gas.
  • To convert for liquid propane gas:
    • 1. Unscrew the front cap, remove the screw and spring. Invert the screw back into the cap with the spring on top.
    • 2. Reinstall the cap.
    • 3. Using a manometer, check pressure is at 10" W.C.P. (2.5 kPa). Adjust pressure by turning the black spacer.
  • WARNING: Issues related to improper propane conversion are NOT covered under warranty.
  • Diagrams show the natural gas and liquid propane gas regulator configurations.

Step 2: Surface Burners

  • 1. Lift burners and unscrew orifices using a 7 mm socket wrench.
  • 2. Replace orifices using the conversion set. Consult tables on page 21 for matching orifices.
  • Diagrams illustrate the steps for replacing orifices on the burners.
  • NOTE: For dual burners, the orifice is on the side. Use a 7 mm boxed end wrench.

Step 3: Flame Adjustment

  • 1. Light one burner at a time and set to MINIMUM (small flame).
  • 2. Remove the knob by pulling it straight out.
  • 3. Use the provided 2.0 x 50 mm flat-head screwdriver to locate the adjustment screw. Hold the metal stem and turn the screwdriver to adjust the flame to the desired minimum.
  • 4. Ensure the flame does not go out when switching from MAXIMUM to MINIMUM.
  • High flame settings cannot be adjusted lower. If too high, revisit the conversion set-up.

Installation Checklist

  • 1. Range mounted on legs and level?
  • 2. Back guard securely connected?
  • 3. Chains properly installed?
  • 4. Clearance from side cabinets compliant?
  • 5. Electricity properly grounded to NEMA 14-50P receptacle?
  • 6. Gas service line connected per manufacturer's directions?
  • 7. Proper valves, stoppers, and gaskets installed?
  • 8. Gas connection checked for leaks?
  • 9. Range set up for correct gas type (LPG or natural gas)?
  • 10. Flame appears sharp blue with no yellow tipping?
  • 11. Minimum setting for all burners adjusted?
  • 12. Range top flames adjusted to customer preference?
  • 13. Oven burners/elements installed and functioning properly?

Final Preparation:

  • Wipe all stainless steel body parts with hot, soapy water and a stainless steel cleanser.
  • If build-up occurs, do not use steel wool or abrasive cleaners. Use hot, wet cloths to loosen material, then a wood or nylon scraper. Do not use metal tools.
  • Before using the oven, clean thoroughly with a warm soap and water solution to remove installation residues, then rinse and wipe dry.

Warranty

Coverage:

  • ZLINE dual fuel ranges have a one-year parts and service warranty and a limited lifetime warranty on burners.
  • Warranty periods begin from the original date of product delivery and cover the original purchaser.
  • The limited warranty covers all parts and labor for necessary repairs due to defects in materials or workmanship.
  • Service must be performed by ZLINE-approved providers.
  • ZLINE's liability is limited to the original purchase price. Injuries, losses, or damages caused by product malfunction are not covered.

Terms:

  • Warranties apply to the original purchaser for normal residential use only. Commercial settings are excluded.
  • This warranty is non-transferable and takes effect from the date of delivery.
  • Warranty applies only to products installed in the contiguous United States and the District of Columbia.
  • Failure to secure certified warranty service may void the warranty.
  • Out-of-pocket payments will not be reimbursed without prior ZLINE approval.

Exclusions:

  • This warranty does not apply if the serial number has been removed or altered.
  • ZLINE is not responsible for damage from shipment, delivery, improper installation, negligence, misuse, unauthorized alteration, accidents, fire, floods, acts of nature, improper electric supply, or service not in accordance with manuals or local codes.
  • This warranty does not apply to aesthetic damage, scratches, normal wear, second-hand products, products from unauthorized retailers, improper LPG conversion, burner flame adjustments, normal adjustments, local gas supply issues, alteration, tampering, painting, cutting the power cord, or high-altitude pressure regulator issues (customer must source).
  • Customers are responsible for service fees if the reported issue is not covered under warranty.

  • Write down the model and serial number from the rating tag located under the front edge of the range top.
  • Do not remove affixed labels, warnings, or plates, as this will void the warranty.
  • Attach your receipt or proof of purchase to this manual.
