Important Safety Instructions

Gas Safety

  • WARNING: Failure to follow these instructions may result in fire or explosion, causing property damage, personal injury, or death.
  • Do not store or use gasoline or other flammable vapors and liquids near this or any other appliance.
  • What to do if you smell gas:
    • Do not try to light any appliance.
    • Do not touch any electrical switch.
    • Do not use any phone in your building.
    • Immediately call your gas supplier from a neighbor's phone and follow their instructions.
    • If you cannot reach your gas supplier, call the fire department.
  • Installation and service must be performed by a qualified installer, service agency, or gas supplier.
  • Never operate the top surface cooking section unattended.
  • Failure to follow this warning statement could result in fire, explosion, or burn hazard.
  • If a fire occurs, keep away from the appliance and immediately call your fire department. DO NOT attempt to extinguish an oil/grease fire with water.
  • An air curtain or other overhead range/range top hood blowing downward airflow onto the range shall not be used/installed with this gas range top.
  • Ensure your home's altitude is conducive to gas cooking. Consult your local gas company for recommendations if installing at higher altitudes.
  • Never use this appliance as a space heater.
  • Never cover slots, holes, or passages, as this blocks airflow and may cause carbon monoxide poisoning.
  • If a gas leak is detected, refer to the "What to Do If You Smell Gas" section.
  • Know how to shut off the gas supply at the meter and disconnect electrical power in case of emergency.
  • Never hang long curtains or paper blinds near windows above the range, as they can ignite.
  • Keep the appliance area clear of combustible materials, gasoline, and flammable vapors.

Ventilation Safety

  • Gas cooking appliances generate heat and humidity. A range hood may be used, installed according to national and local standards.
  • Maintain a 30" (762 mm) minimum clearance between the cooking surface and the bottom of the hood if installed with ducting.
  • Exhaust hood operation may affect other vented appliances.
  • Intensive and continuous use may require additional ventilation, such as opening a window.

Oven Safety

  • Never pour cold water onto hot oven surfaces to avoid burns or damage to the enamel.
  • It is recommended to heat the oven to approximately 400 °F (204 °C) for 2 hours before first use. Clean with hot water and a kitchen-safe cleaner afterwards. Clean racks and shelves before use.
  • A slight smell or noises may be noticed during the first use as residual oil burns off and new parts settle.

Cooking and Range Top Safety

  • This product is intended for cooking food only.
  • Do not place unstable or deformed pans on burners to avoid accidents.
  • Exercise caution when cooking with oil or fat.
  • Ensure knobs are in the OFF position when the appliance is not in use.
  • Disconnect power and allow to cool before maintenance and cleaning.
  • Keep the appliance clean for hygiene and safety.
  • Take care when using cleaning products in spray form; avoid spraying electrical wiring, thermostat, and bulb.
  • Clean up spills before cooking to avoid smoke or fire.
  • Ensure adequate air circulation around the gas appliance.
  • Supply the appliance with the correct type of gas.
  • The appliance is heavy; move it carefully.
  • Light burners before placing pans. Check for regular flames.
  • Lower or turn off the flame before removing pans.
  • Do not store items of interest to children above or behind the appliance.
  • Do not use decorative surface burner covers.
  • Do not use stove top grills on the gas appliance, as this may cause incomplete combustion and carbon monoxide exposure.
  • Never leave children unattended when the appliance is hot or in operation.
  • Do not let anyone climb, stand, or hang on the unit.
  • Never modify or alter the appliance's construction.
  • Do not wear loose-fitting or hanging garments while using the appliance.
  • Use only suitable cookware (glass, glass-ceramic, ceramic, earthenware) that can withstand temperature changes.

Operation

Surface Burner Operation - Electric Ignition

  • Push the knob in to activate the spark, then turn counter-clockwise to release gas. Release the knob gently once the flame is on. Repeat if the flame turns off.
  • WARNING: Do not ignite burners if the black burner cap is not installed or centered, as the flame will be irregular.

Manual Ignition

  • Turn the control knob counter-clockwise to the maximum position and light the flame with a kitchen lighter or match.

Range Top Cooking - Using the Burners Correctly

  • Always ensure burner caps are properly installed before operation.
  • Verify that flames are completely blue and regular.
  • Never let flames wrap around cookware.
  • ZLINE cast iron griddles (RG48 series) come pre-seasoned. Regular seasoning is recommended.
  • The recommended control knob position for burner ignition is the maximum temperature setting.
  • Turn regulating knobs counter-clockwise to the small flame symbol, and vice-versa for the larger flame symbol.
  • To light a burner, push and hold the knob, turn counter-clockwise to maximum for 3-5 seconds. The gas supply and flame will be at maximum.
  • Reduce flame size by turning the knob counter-clockwise.
  • If a burner fails to light, return the knob to its original position and try again. Burner flame should be blue.
  • When igniting a burner, all burners will spark, but only the selected burner will ignite.
  • The gas burner may not ignite immediately on first use; time is required for gas to fill the system.
  • The system cooling fan runs on all oven settings when in use.
  • WARNING: Flame color should always be blue. Flickers of orange and yellow are acceptable. If flames appear orange or yellow and stay that way, check the surrounding area for candles, cleaning products, or atmospheric changes.

Using the Oven

  • Set the timer to "ON" or a timed option and the temperature dial to the desired temperature.
  • The range indicator light turns on when the oven temperature is set and turns off when the desired temperature is reached. Pre-heating typically takes 15-25 minutes.
  • To set the timer, turn the dial counter-clockwise to ON, or clockwise for a timed position. Do not turn counter-clockwise beyond ON.
  • BROIL: Set timer to "ON" and temperature dial to "BROIL" for top heating element use.
  • MAX: Set timer to "ON" and temperature dial to "MAX" for bottom heating element use.
  • Some RG models may have a different timer dial layout or a "CLEAN" function on the temperature dial (which operates the same as MAX).
  • To activate convection fans, push the convection fan button. The fan runs on regular temperature settings, not during "BROIL".
  • Some RG models may have a convection fan switch instead of a button.

Using Pans Correctly

  • Ensure pan bottoms and handles do not protrude over the range top.
  • Do not leave the range unattended when cooking with flammable fat.
  • Use pots of appropriate size for each burner.
  • Turn knob to minimum heat to avoid overflow when boiling liquids.
  • Always use pots with matching lids.
  • Dry pan bottoms before operation.

Oven Cooking

  • Use care when opening the oven door; let hot air or steam escape before removing or placing food.
  • Do not heat unopened food containers, as pressure build-up may cause them to burst.
  • Keep oven vent ducts unobstructed.

Placement of Oven Racks

  • Place oven racks in desired locations while the oven is cool. If moving racks while hot, use potholders or oven mitts and avoid contact with heating elements.
  • Do not clean door gaskets; they are essential for a good seal.
  • Do not use abrasive oven cleaners or protective coatings. Clean only listed parts. Remove racks before cleaning.
  • In case of electric power failure, reset controls to OFF and do not use until power is restored.
  • Do not touch heating elements or interior surfaces of the oven, as they can be hot even when dark. Other surfaces near openings, doors, and glass windows may also become hot.
  • Reset all range top/oven/broiler burner controls to OFF after use.
  • The range is equipped with two commercial grade racks, mounted on guides. Insert shelves between top and bottom guides in any of the 5 positions.
  • Use appropriate oven-safe cookware. Follow recipe directions and personal experience for best results.
  • If you have a range top griddle, it does not need to be seasoned before every use, but regular seasoning is recommended.

Maintenance and Cleaning

Replacing the Oven Bulbs

  • WARNING: Disconnect power before servicing.
  • To replace G9 halogen bulbs, unscrew the protection cap inside the oven.
  • NOTE: Use protective gloves or a clean cloth to handle bulbs to prevent premature burnout.

  • Cleaning the Range Top: Periodically clean burner heads, cast iron pan supports, and burner caps with warm water. Remove food and fat residues with a rubber spatula.
  • Cleaning Stainless Steel: Use a stainless steel cleaner with a soft sponge or cloth and warm soapy water. Avoid abrasive powders or liquids.
  • Cleaning the Burner Caps: Wash burner caps in warm soapy water. Dry thoroughly. Ensure gas flow holes are not clogged before reinstalling.
  • Cleaning Porcelain: Clean the porcelain range top with warm soapy water and a soft sponge or wipe. Avoid abrasive powders or liquids. Do not leave acidic or alkaline substances on porcelain parts. Use a rubber spatula to remove food and fat residues.
  • Cleaning Glass Door: Clean with a non-abrasive sponge or wipe and warm soapy water. Use a rubber spatula for food and fat deposits.
  • WARNING: The oven door does not lock; use caution when cleaning the inside.
  • Cleaning the Drip Pan: Remove and clean the drip pan at the bottom of the oven with warm soapy water when the oven is cool.

Changing Doors and Kick Plates

  1. Open oven door, insert metal pins into hinge (pins not included), close door halfway, pull up and out to remove door.
  2. Unscrew four screws to uninstall the kick plate (two top, two bottom on each side). Tilt range to access bottom screws.
  3. Remove kick plate.
  4. Install new kick plate.
  5. Reinstall the four screws.
  6. Reinstall new oven door by reversing step 1. Place hinges into base receivers, keeping the door half closed.
