The appliance must sit on a stable platform with a minimum thickness of 3/4" (20 mm) and withstand at least 150 pounds (68 kg). The shelf must be level.
The platform must include a minimum of 2" (51 mm) cutout gap from the wall for electrical and gas supply connections. The maximum recommended cutout is 2 3/4" (70 mm).
Consult a professional installer to verify cabinet dimensions and electrical/gas connections before installation.
Securing the Range Top
To prevent tipping, ZLINE recommends securing the appliance:
Mounting to Cabinet Shelf
Secure with appropriate screws or bolts to the cabinet shelf and slide into keyhole slots.
Mounting to Back Wall
Secure with screws through holes behind the false exhaust opening to the wall, ensuring screws are anchored into a wall stud or appropriate anchor.
Gas Supply
Installation must be performed by an authorized professional.
A flexible metal appliance connection (AGA or CGA certified, 3/4" or 19 mm) is recommended for connecting to the gas supply line. Do not bend or damage the connector.
Use the provided pressure regulator. It must be installed accessibly and set for the type of gas (natural gas or liquid propane). The regulator has a 1/2" (13 mm) connection female pipe thread.
Isolate the appliance from the gas supply piping by closing its manual shut-off valve during pressure testing at pressures up to 1/2 PSI (3 kPa).
Seal all opening holes in the wall and floor before installation.
A manual gas shut-off valve must be installed in an accessible location in the gas line external to the appliance.
WARNING: Do not use aerosol sprays in the vicinity of this appliance while it is hot.
Room Ventilation
An exhaust fan may be used, installed in conformity with national and local standards. Exhaust hood operation may affect other vented appliances.
Type of Gas
The appliance is shipped for natural gas use. For liquid propane gas, follow the conversion procedure on page 16.
Gas Pressure
Maximum inlet gas supply pressure to the regulator is 1/2 PSI.
Minimum gas supply pressure for checking the regulator setting should be at least 1" W.C.P. (0.25 kPa) above the specified manifold pressure.
Operating pressure: 4" W.C.P. (1 kPa) for natural gas; 10" W.C.P. (2.75 kPa) for liquid propane gas.
Requires 1"-6" (25-152 mm) side wall spacing above the counter for combustion. Consult specific model instructions for required dimensions (e.g., 30"-36" between range top and hood bottom, 1/4" for sides).
Consult local building codes for variations.
Installation
Gas Connection
All gas connections must comply with national and local codes. The gas supply line must be the same size or greater than the appliance inlet (1/2" NPT). Use appropriate sealant resistant to gas.
The range top is shipped for natural gas. For liquid propane gas household installation, conversion must be done by a factory-trained professional or qualified plumber/service company.
Gas conversion is crucial for safe and effective use. The owner is responsible for performing the appropriate conversion following manufacturer directions.
The conversion procedure is in this manual and with the conversion orifices package.
Provide this manual to the service person before work begins.
WARNING: DO NOT use an open flame when checking for leaks. Use a soapy water solution.
Electric Power Rating
A properly grounded, horizontally-mounted NEMA 5-15 receptacle should be installed no higher than 3" (76 mm) above the floor, and between 2" (51 mm) and 8" (203 mm) from the left side.
The appliance connects to a single-phase electric line rated at 120VAC and 60HZ.
Electrical Grounding
The range top has a three-prong plug for shock protection. Plug directly into a properly grounded receptacle. Do not cut or remove the prong.
WARNING: Disconnect electrical power at the circuit breaker or fuse box before installing. Use copper conductors only.
Manual Shut-Off Valve
This valve is not shipped with the appliance and must be provided by the installer. Install in the gas service line between the wall hook-up and appliance inlet, in an accessible location for emergencies.
In Massachusetts: A T-handle type manual gas shut-off valve must be installed.
Flexible Connections
Use a heavy-duty, AGA design-certified flexible connector (at least 1/2" or 13 mm NPT) with strain relief, compliant with ANSI Z21.41 and Z21.69 standards.
In Massachusetts: Use a 36" (914 mm) flexible gas connector.
In Canada: Use CAN 1-6, 10-88 metal connectors and CAN 1-6.9, M79 quick disconnect devices.
Pressure Test Point Stopper Valve
When attaching the regulator, use the blue gasket from the liquid propane gas orifice box. Place it inside the threads of the regulator valve where it connects to the gas rail manifold. Improper installation may cause gas leaks.
Pressure Regulator
A pressure regulator is required for safe and efficient operation due to fluctuating service pressure.
The provided regulator has two female 1/2" (13 mm) NPT threads.
Install the regulator accessibly in its final position.
Manifold pressure should be checked with a manometer:
- Natural gas: 4" W.C.P. (1 kPa)
- Liquid propane gas: 10" W.C.P. (2.5 kPa)
Incoming line pressure upstream from the regulator must be 1" W.C.P. (0.25 kPa) higher than the manifold pressure.
The regulator can withstand a maximum input pressure of 1/2 PSI (13.8" W.C.P. or 3.5 kPa). A step-down regulator is required if line pressure exceeds this.
Disconnect the appliance, shut-off valve, and regulator from the gas line during pressure testing exceeding 1/2 PSI.
WARNING: Before this operation, disconnect from gas and electricity. Gas conversion must be conducted by a factory-trained professional.
Liquid Propane Conversion Procedure
The conversion procedure includes: 1. Pressure Regulator, 2. Surface Burners, 3. Flame Adjustment.
Ensure all steps are completed. Before conversion, locate replacement orifices in the kit, which have flow diameter numbers. Consult diagrams for matching orifices to burners.
WARNING: This conversion kit must be installed by a qualified service agency according to manufacturer instructions and applicable codes. Failure to follow instructions can cause fire, explosion, or carbon monoxide production. The service agency is responsible for proper installation and checking the converted appliance's operation.
Save removed orifices for future use.
Step 1: Pressure Regulator
The supplied regulator is convertible. It is pre-assembled for either natural gas (4" W.C.P.) or liquid propane gas (10" W.C.P.).
To convert for liquid propane gas:
- Unscrew the front cap of the regulator. Inside is a screw. Remove the screw to reveal a spring. Invert the screw back into the cap with the spring on top.
- With the spring sticking out, reinstall the cap onto the regulator.
- Using a manometer, double-check pressure is at 10" W.C.P. (2.5 kPa). Adjust pressure by screwing or unscrewing the black spacer where the spring is located.
WARNING: Any issues related to improper liquid propane gas conversion are NOT covered under warranty.
Step 2: Surface Burners
To replace orifices: lift burners, unscrew orifices using a 7 mm socket wrench.
Replace orifices using the conversion set. Each orifice has a flow diameter number. Consult diagrams for matching orifices to burners.
Diagram Description: Shows steps for replacing burner orifices. Arrows indicate the process for NG (Natural Gas) and LPG (Liquid Propane Gas). A 7 mm wrench is depicted.
Note: For dual burners, the orifice is on the side. Use a 7 mm boxed end wrench.
Step 3: Flame Adjustment
1. Light one burner at a time and set to MINIMUM (small flame).
2. Remove the knob by pulling it straight out.
3. Locate the adjustment screw (using a 2.0 x 50 mm flat-head screwdriver). Hold the metal stem and turn the screwdriver right or left until the flame is adjusted to desired minimum.
4. Ensure the flame does not go out when switching quickly from MAXIMUM to MINIMUM.
The high flame setting cannot be adjusted lower. If too high, revisit the conversion setup.
