Installation Clearances and Notes

Proper installation clearances are critical for safe and efficient operation. The following guidelines apply to the placement of the Kohler 14/18/20RCA generator relative to occupied structures.

General Clearance Requirements:

Exhaust End Clearance: A minimum of 4 feet (1.2 meters) from any occupied structure.
Service Door Clearance: A minimum of 30 inches (0.76 meters) is required for access to the service door.
Mounting Area Clearance: A minimum of 18 inches (0.46 meters) around the mounting area.

Configuration-Specific Clearances:

Diagrams illustrate recommended clearances for both single unit and parallel unit configurations, showing the generator set ('SET') in relation to an 'OCCUPIED STRUCTURE'. These diagrams emphasize the required distances for exhaust, service access, and general placement.

Important Installation Notes:

The generator exhaust should be directed away from or parallel to the structure.
Exhaust must not be directed at play areas, patios, or other areas where people congregate.
The nearest window, vent, door, or similar structure opening must be at least 5 feet (1.5 meters) from the exhaust end of the set.
Ensure the generator set has proper offset from the structure.
Windows and doors on adjacent walls should be kept closed during operation.
Furnace and other similar air intakes must be located at least 10 feet (3 meters) from the exhaust end of the set.
A weed barrier and a 3-inch (7.6 cm) thick gravel base or concrete pad should be used to prevent grass and weeds from growing too close to the set.
No plants, shrubs, or other combustibles are allowed within 4 feet (1.2 meters) of the exhaust end.
No plants, shrubs, or other combustibles are allowed within 30 inches (0.76 meters) of the air intake.
