Welcome & About Your Playset

Congratulations on your KidKraft product! Your playset is constructed from high-quality, durable Cunninghamia Lanceolata wood, known for its light weight and excellent strength. The wood's porosity allows moisture absorption and evaporation, resisting rot and bugs. KidKraft products undergo extensive safety testing and feature proprietary methods for simpler assembly, allowing for more playtime.

If you encounter any issues during assembly, please contact Customer Service for assistance with missing parts, instructions, or maintenance.

Warnings and Safe Play Instructions

Continuous Adult Supervision Required.

WARNING: SERIOUS HEAD INJURY HAZARD

Install and maintain shock-absorbing material under and around the playset as recommended. Falls onto hard surfaces like concrete, asphalt, or dirt can cause serious injury or death. Grass and dirt are not considered adequate protective surfacing.

WARNING: COLLISION HAZARD

Place the playset on level ground at least 2 meters (approx. 6.5 feet) from any obstructions like garages, fences, poles, trees, sidewalks, walls, landscape timbers, rocks, pavement, planters, garden borders, laundry lines, and electrical wires. Refer to the "Obstacle Free Safety Zone" on the cover for detailed dimensions.

WARNING: CHOKING HAZARD/SHARP EDGES & POINTS

Adult assembly is required. Keep small parts and parts with sharp edges or points away from children until fully assembled.

WARNING LABEL

Owners are responsible for maintaining the legibility of all warning labels.

WARNING: STRANGULATION HAZARD

  • Never allow children to play with or attach ropes, clotheslines, pet leashes, cables, chains, or cord-like items to the playset.
  • Never allow children to wear loose-fitting clothing, ponchos, hoods, scarves, capes, necklaces, items with draw-strings, cords, or ties.
  • Never allow children to wear bike or sport helmets while using the playset.
  • Failure to prohibit these items increases the risk of serious injury and death from entanglement.

WARNING: TIP OVER HAZARD

Choose a level location for the equipment to prevent tipping. Ensure loose-fill surfacing materials are contained to prevent wash-away during heavy rains. Do not allow children to play on the playset until assembly is complete and the unit is properly anchored. Never add extra length to chains or ropes.

Safe Play Instructions:

  • Observe capacity limitations (see front cover).
  • Dress children in well-fitting footwear that fully encloses the foot. Avoid open-toe or heel footwear like sandals or flip-flops.
  • Teach children to sit with their full weight in the center of the swing seat to prevent erratic motion or falling.
  • Regularly check for splintered, broken, or cracked wood; missing, loose, or sharp-edged hardware. Replace, tighten, or sand smooth as needed.
  • Verify that suspended climbing ropes, rope ladders, chains, or cables are securely fastened at both ends and cannot be looped to create an entanglement hazard.
  • On hot days, check slides and plastic rides for excessive heat to prevent burns. Cool with water and wipe dry before use.
  • Orient the slide to minimize sun exposure.
  • Do not allow children to walk in front of, between, behind, or close to moving rides.
  • Do not let children twist swing chains or ropes or loop them over the top support bar, as this can reduce strength and cause premature failure.
  • Do not permit children to get off rides while they are in motion.
  • Do not permit climbing on equipment when it is wet.
  • Do not permit rough play or use of equipment in a manner for which it was not intended. Standing on or jumping from the roof, elevated platforms, swings, climbers, ladders, or slides can be dangerous.
  • Do not allow children to swing empty rides or seats.
  • Do not allow children to go down the slide head first or run up the slide.

Protective Surfacing

To reduce the risk of serious head injuries from falls, install shock-absorbing protective surfacing under and around your playset. The surfacing depth should be suitable for the equipment height, following ASTM F1292 standards.

Loose-Fill Materials:

  • Maintain a minimum depth of 9 inches (23 cm) for equipment up to 8 feet high, or 9 inches (23 cm) for equipment up to 5 feet high (using sand or pea gravel). An initial fill of 12 inches (31 cm) will compact to about 9 inches (23 cm). Periodically rake and refill to maintain depth.
  • For equipment less than 4 feet (1.22 m) high, use a minimum of 6 inches (16 cm) of protective surfacing.
  • Do NOT install over concrete, asphalt, or other hard surfaces. Grass and dirt are not adequate. Carpeting and thin mats are also not adequate.
  • Use containment (e.g., landscape edging) and ensure proper water drainage.
  • Periodically rake and check surfacing depth, especially in heavily used areas.

Poured-In-Place Surfaces or Pre-Manufactured Rubber Tiles:

These installations generally require professional installation. Review surface specifications and ensure the product is tested to ASTM F1292 for the intended fall height.

Placement:

  • Extend surfacing at least 6 feet (1.8 m) from the equipment in all directions.
  • For swings, extend surfacing in front and behind to a distance equal to twice the height of the top bar.
  • For tire swings, extend surfacing in a circle with a radius equal to the height of the suspending chain/rope plus 6 feet (1.8 m).

Refer to diagrams on the front cover for detailed use zone dimensions.

Instructions for Proper Maintenance

To maximize enjoyment, safety, and lifespan, proper maintenance is essential.

Beginning of Play Season Checks:

  • Hardware: Check for rust; sand and repaint if necessary. Inspect and tighten all hardware, but do not overtighten to avoid crushing wood. Check for sharp edges or protruding threads; add washers if needed.
  • Shock Absorbing Surfacing: Check for foreign objects. Rake and check depth of loose-fill materials. Replace as necessary.
  • Ground Stakes (Anchors): Check for looseness, damage, or deterioration. Re-secure or replace if necessary.
  • Swing Hangers: Ensure bolts are secure and tight. Lubricate bushings if squeaking occurs.
  • Swings, Ropes, and Rides: Check all moving parts for wear, rust, or deterioration. Replace as needed. Ensure ropes are tight and secure.
  • Wood Parts: Check for deterioration, structural damage, or splintering. Sand splinters and replace damaged parts. Applying a water-repellent or stain (water-based) annually is recommended.

Twice a Month Checks (During Play Season):

  • Hardware: Inspect for tightness. Ensure it is firm but not crushing the wood. Check for sharp edges or protruding threads; add washers if required.

Once a Month Checks (During Play Season):

  • Swing Hangers: Ensure they are secure and correctly oriented. The hook should rotate freely and be perpendicular to the support beam. Lubricate if squeaking occurs.

End of Play Season Checks:

  • Swings and Rides: Check swing seats, ropes, chains, and attachments for fraying, wear, corrosion, or damage. Replace if structurally damaged. To prolong life, store swings inside when temperatures are below freezing, as plastic parts can become brittle.
  • Shock Absorbing Surfacing: Rake and check depth. Replace as necessary.

Disposal: Disassemble and dispose of the playset according to local waste ordinances.

About Our Wood

KidKraft uses premium playset lumber. Wood is a natural product susceptible to weathering, which can change its appearance but not its strength. Weathering effects include:

  • Checking: Surface cracks along the grain.
  • Warping: Distortion (twisting, cupping) from the original plane.
  • Fading: Natural color change to gray over time due to sunlight.

To reduce weathering, apply a water repellent or stain annually. Contact KidKraft Consumer Relations for severe weathering concerns.

Complete and mail the registration card for product notifications and warranty service.

KidKraft Limited Warranty

Missing or Damaged Parts: KidKraft replaces missing or damaged parts within 90 days of purchase at no cost (free shipping).

Usage: This product is warranted for RESIDENTIAL USE ONLY. Public use will void the warranty.

Keys to Assembly Success

Tools Required: Tape Measure, Carpenters Level, Carpenters Square, Claw Hammer, Standard or Cordless Drill, Rubber Mallet, #1 Phillips/#2 Robertson Screwdriver, Ratchet with extension (1/2" & 9/16" sockets), Open End Wrench (1/2" & 9/16"), Adjustable Wrench, 1/8" & 3/16" Drill Bits, 3/16" Hex Key, 8' Step Ladder, Safety Glasses, Adult Helpers, Pencil.

Part Identification Key: Each page lists required parts and quantities for that step. The first two digits of the part number indicate the step number; the third digit indicates the piece.

Symbols: Pay attention to symbols indicating special attention (⚠️), level checks (?️), help needed (?), measuring distance (?), and squaring assembly (?).

Assembly Tips:

  • Ensure the assembly is level before proceeding.
  • Use 2-3 people for steps marked with the "Use Help" symbol.
  • Check assembly squareness before tightening bolts.
  • Use a measuring tape for accurate placement.
  • Pre-drill pilot holes to prevent wood splitting.
  • Tighten bolts firmly but do not overtighten to avoid crushing wood or causing splinters.
  • CAUTION – Protrusion Hazard: If bolt threads protrude from the T-Nut, add extra washers.
  • Proper Hardware Assembly: Lag screws require pilot holes. Use a flat washer. Liquid soap can aid lag screw installation. For bolts, tap T-Nuts into holes, insert hex bolt with lock washer, then flat washer. Do not fully tighten until instructed. Note wafer head bolts with blue lock tight or Ny-Lok nuts do not require a lock washer.
