OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
Safety Instructions
WARNING: IF CONNECTED TO AN AC OUTLET: TO PREVENT FIRE OR SHOCK HAZARD, DO NOT EXPOSE THIS APPLIANCE TO RAIN OR MOISTURE.
All safety and operating instructions should be read before the appliance is operated and retained for future reference. All warnings on the appliance and in the operating instructions should be adhered to.
- Water and Moisture: Do not use near water (e.g., bathtub, sink, wet basement, swimming pool).
- Ventilation: Do not block ventilation openings. Do not place on surfaces like beds, sofas, or rugs that may block openings. Avoid built-in installations that impede airflow.
- Heat: Keep away from heat sources like radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other heat-producing appliances.
- Power Sources: Connect only to the type of power supply described in the instructions or marked on the appliance.
- Grounding or Polarization: Ensure grounding or polarization means are not defeated.
- Power-Cord Protection: Route cords to prevent walking on or pinching, especially at plugs and exits.
- Cleaning: Clean only as recommended by the manufacturer.
- Power Lines: Outdoor antennas should be located away from power lines.
- Outdoor Antenna Grounding: If an outside antenna is connected, ensure the system is grounded for protection against surges and static charges.
- Nonuse Periods: Unplug the power cord when left unused for a long period. Remove batteries from the battery compartment. Grasp the main body of the AC-DC adaptor when unplugging.
- Object and Liquid Entry: Prevent objects from falling or liquids from spilling into the enclosure through openings.
- Damage Requiring Service: Refer to qualified service personnel if the power cord/plug is damaged, objects/liquids have entered the appliance, it has been exposed to rain, it does not operate normally, or the enclosure is damaged.
- Servicing: Do not attempt to service beyond instructions. Refer all other servicing to qualified personnel.
ON PROTECTION AGAINST LASER ENERGY EXPOSURE:
- The laser beam is harmful to eyes; do not attempt to disassemble the casing.
- Stop operation immediately if liquid or solid objects fall into the cabinet.
- Do not touch or poke the lens, as this may damage it and affect operation.
- Do not put anything in the safety slot, as this will turn the laser diode ON when the CD door is open.
- If the unit is not used for a long period, disconnect all power sources (unplug cord, remove batteries).
- This unit employs a laser. Using controls, adjustments, or procedures other than specified may result in exposure to hazardous radiation.
ON PLACEMENT:
- Do not use in extremely hot, cold, dusty, or humid places.
- Place on a flat and even surface.
- Do not restrict airflow by placing in poorly ventilated areas, covering with cloth, or placing on carpet.
ON CONDENSATION:
- Water droplets or condensation may form inside the unit when left in a warm, damp room.
- Condensation may cause abnormal function.
- Allow the unit to stand for 1-2 hours before turning on power, or gradually heat the room to dry the unit before use.
Functions and Controls
The following controls are available on the unit:
- AUX-IN Jack: For connecting external audio sources.
- Function Selector (CD/OFF/RADIO): Switches between CD mode, OFF, and Radio mode.
- Volume Control: Adjusts the sound volume.
- PROG: Button for programming CD tracks.
- CD STOP Button: Stops CD playback.
- CD Track Display: Shows the current track number or program status.
- CD Door: Opens to access the CD compartment.
- Telescopic Antenna: For receiving FM/AM radio signals.
- FM Stereo Indicator: Lights up when receiving an FM stereo signal.
- Dial Scale: Indicates the radio frequency.
- CD PLAY/PAUSE Button: Starts or pauses CD playback.
- REPEAT Button: Sets repeat playback mode (single track or entire CD).
- Tuning Knob: Adjusts the radio frequency.
- Band Selector (AM/FM/FM ST.): Selects the radio band (AM, FM, or FM Stereo).
- CD REV Skip/Search or FWD Skip/Search: Skips to the previous/next track or searches within a track.
- Speaker: Outputs the audio.
- AC Mains: Socket for the AC power cord.
- Battery Door: Accesses the battery compartment.
- Repeat Indicator: Shows when repeat mode is active.
- PROG/PLAY/PAUSE Indicator: Indicates programming or playback status.
Power Source
This unit operates on 8 x 'C' (UM-2) size batteries or from AC120V/60Hz line power supply.
A. DC POWER OPERATION
- Open the Battery Door (#18).
- Insert 8 "C" (UM-2) size batteries (not included) according to the polarity diagram inside the compartment.
- Close the Battery Door (#18).
IMPORTANT: Ensure batteries are installed correctly. Incorrect polarity may damage the unit. For best performance, use alkaline batteries. Do not mix old and new batteries, or different battery types (alkaline, carbon-zinc, rechargeable). Remove batteries if the unit will not be used for an extended period to prevent damage and voiding the warranty.
B. AC OPERATION
- Connect the included AC Power Cord to the AC Mains (#17) on the back of the unit.
- Connect the other end of the AC Power Cord to a wall outlet with AC120V/60Hz power supply.
CD Player Operation
- Set the Function Selector (#2) to "CD".
- Open the CD Door (#7). Place an audio CD with the label side upward in the compartment and close the door.
- The total number of tracks will appear in the CD Track Display (#6) after a few seconds.
- Press the CD PLAY/PAUSE Button (#11) to start playing from the first track. The CD Track Display will light steadily.
- Adjust the Volume Control (#3) for desired sound level from the Speakers (#16).
- To pause playback, press the CD PLAY/PAUSE Button (#11). The CD Track Display will flash. Press again to resume.
- Select a favorite track directly by pressing the CD FWD Skip Button (#15) to skip forward or CD REV Skip Button (#15) to skip backward. The CD Track Display (#6) shows the selected track number.
- To repeat a particular track, press the REPEAT Button (#12) once. The Repeat Indicator (#19) will flash.
- To repeat the entire CD, press the REPEAT Button (#12) twice. The Repeat Indicator (#19) will light steadily.
- To stop playback, press the CD STOP Button (#5).
- Turn off the CD Player by setting the Function Selector (#2) to "OFF".
CD Programmed Play
This function allows tracks to be played in a programmed sequence.
- With the CD stopped, press the PROG. Button (#4). The CD Track Display (#6) will show "01" and the PROG/PLAY/PAUSE Indicator (#20) will flash.
- Use the CD FWD Skip (#15) or CD REV Skip (#15) buttons to select the track to program.
- Press the PROG. Button (#4) again to store the selection. The CD Track Display (#6) will advance to "02".
- Select the next track and press PROG. Button (#4) to store.
- Repeat steps 2-3 to program up to 20 tracks. Programming more than 20 tracks will reset to "01" and overwrite the oldest entry.
- Press the CD STOP Button (#5) to end programming and return to normal play mode.
- To check programmed tracks, press and hold the PROG. Button (#4) to cycle through all programmed songs. The display shows the program number, then the track number.
- Press the CD PLAY/PAUSE Button (#11) to begin programmed play. The first programmed track appears in the CD Track Display (#6), and the PROG/PLAY/PAUSE Indicator (#20) lights steadily.
- To cancel programmed play, press the CD STOP Button (#5).
- If the unit remains on and the CD Door (#7) is not opened, programmed play can be resumed by pressing PROG. Button (#4) then CD PLAY/PAUSE Button (#11) while in stop condition.
Radio Reception
- Set the Function Selector (#2) to "RADIO".
- Set the Band Selector (#14) to "AM", "FM", or "FM ST." for the desired band. For weak FM stations, set to "FM" for monaural reception, which may improve sound quality.
- Adjust the Tuning Knob (#13) to find the desired station.
- Adjust the Volume Control (#3) for the desired sound level.
- Turn off the radio by setting the Function Selector (#2) to "OFF".
TIPS FOR GOOD RADIO RECEPTION
- For maximum FM sensitivity, fully extend and rotate the Telescopic Antenna (#8) for best reception. The FM Stereo Indicator (#9) lights steadily for stereo programs.
- For AM reception, place the unit in a vertical position. Reposition the unit to find the best reception.
Using AUX-IN Function
- Insert an external signal jack into the AUX-IN jack (#1). The unit will function as a speaker.
- Adjust the volume using the Volume Control (#3).
- To stop this function, power off the unit and unplug the jack.
Remark: While using this function, only the volume control is active; other function keys are invalid.
Important Information Before Using Headphones
- Avoid extended play at very high volumes, as it may impair hearing.
- If you experience ringing in your ears, reduce the volume or shut off the unit.
- Do not use while driving a motorized vehicle, as it is dangerous and illegal in some areas.
- Keep the volume at a reasonable level, even with open-air headphones designed to let you hear outside sounds. Excessively high volume may still block outside sounds.

Care and Maintenance
- Clean the unit with a damp (never wet) cloth. Never use solvents or detergents.
- Avoid leaving the unit in direct sunlight or in hot, humid, or dusty places.
- Keep the unit away from heating appliances and sources of electrical noise (e.g., fluorescent lamps, motors).
- If drop-outs or interruptions occur during CD play, or if the CD fails to play, the disc surface may need cleaning. Wipe the disc from the center outwards with a soft cleaning cloth before playing.
