The pump's performance is divided between suction depth, delivery height, and flow rate. To achieve maximum delivery height, the suction depth must be as small as possible. For maximum flow rate at the outlet, suction depth and delivery height must be as small as possible. The pump's flow rate decreases proportionally with increasing hose length and liquid viscosity, increasing height difference between pump and hose end, hose diameter and resistance, decreasing water temperature, or voltage drop.
II. Characteristics – Purpose of Use
The Extol® Craft 414122 electric submersible pump is designed for pumping, draining, or transferring water in domestic, garden, or recreational settings. Its ability to handle larger particles makes it suitable for pumping dirty water. The pump is intended for smaller-scale pumping tasks and is not recommended for prolonged submersion, such as in drainage sumps for controlled drainage of rising groundwater.
This pump is NOT designed for pumping the following liquids:
- Thick and viscous liquids (e.g., muddy water and mud).
- Liquids containing fibrous materials or items that can wind onto the impeller (e.g., from sewage tanks).
- Liquids containing long, thin, hard items that can enter the impeller area and cause damage (e.g., wood fragments, nails).
- Liquids containing abrasive particles (e.g., water with sand).
- Drinking water.
III. Parts and Control Elements
Refer to Figure 3 for component identification:
- Handle for attaching the pump's suspension rope and for carrying.
- Outflow fitting (elbow) with a 1 1/4" male thread.
- Base (stand) of the pump.
- Float switch (float).
- Power cord.
- Fixture for holding the float switch cord to regulate the water level.
- Hose connection fitting for diameters of 25 mm; 1" and 32 mm.
The adjustable float cord length allows setting the water level for pump activation and deactivation (see Figure 2).
IV. Before Putting into Operation
ATTENTION: Carefully read this entire manual before first use and keep it with the product. Ensure the product is not damaged. Make sure the pump's power cord is disconnected from the power outlet.
1. Inspection
- Visually inspect the power cord and float switch for damage. Do not use a pump with damaged insulation or a damaged float switch; have it repaired by an authorized Extol® service center.
- Check that the water inlets to the impeller area and the pressure water outlet are clean. Insert a finger into the outlet to confirm the impeller rotates freely. Check for impeller wear (abrasion of bent notches); worn impellers reduce pump performance.
- Slide the handle into the grooves (Figure 1) to secure it. If not properly secured, the pump could fall into the liquid.
- Screw the hose connection fitting into the pump's outlet (Figure 4). For a better seal, wrap Teflon tape around the threads. Fittings a & c are for clamp connections; b & d are for threaded hose connections.
- Attach a delivery hose or pipe (minimum diameter matching the fitting) to the outlet. Ensure the hose material is resistant to the pumped liquid (e.g., PVC).
- Adjust the float switch cord length to set the desired water level for automatic shut-off. Verify float switch operation by submerging the pump and manually moving the float. Ensure the float does not touch the pump before the motor stops. The distance between the float and its fixture should be appropriate (see Figure 2).
- Securely attach a rope or chain to the pump's handle for lowering it into the liquid. The rope/chain must be stronger than the pump and resistant to the liquid. Never lower the pump by its power cord.
V. Operating the Pump
Placement into the Pumped Liquid
- Lower the pump into the pumped liquid.
- Place the pump directly on a firm, level bottom free of debris. Ensure the bottom is not deeper than the maximum submersion depth.
- If the bottom conditions are not met, suspend the pump freely on a rope or chain, adhering to the maximum submersion depth. Ensure the liquid does not contain forbidden substances.
- Secure the pump vertically to prevent movement or falling. Ensure the power cord is not trapped under the pump.
ATTENTION: Ensure the float switch has free movement. If the float switch gets stuck, the pump may run dry and be damaged.
Remove any large objects from the pumping area before submerging the pump.
Always position the pump vertically. Never lower the pump by its power cord.
Turning On / Off
- Connect the power cord to the socket. The pump's operation is controlled by the float switch position relative to the water level (see Figure 2).
- To turn off immediately, disconnect the power cord.
Note: The pump has thermal protection. If activated, disconnect power, remove the cause of overheating, and allow the motor to cool. Do not overload the pump.
ATTENTION: Always disconnect the pump from the power supply before removing it from the liquid.
Fundamentals of Working with the Pump and Safety Instructions
- Read and follow all instructions and operating limits.
- Connect the pump to a socket with a 30 mA residual current device (RCD) for protection against electric shock. Test the RCD before each use.
- Protect the power socket from moisture.
- Never pump liquids containing corrosive substances (acids, lye, bleaches), abrasive particles (sand), flammable or viscous liquids, or foodstuffs (milk, oil).
- After pumping chemically treated pool water, flush the pump with clean water.
- Avoid contact with the pumped liquid or conductive parts of the container/suspension chain while the pump is running or powered. Ensure people and animals do not come into contact with the pumped liquid to prevent electric shock in case of pump malfunction or damaged power cord insulation.
- Use protective aids (goggles, gloves) when handling liquids that may cause adverse reactions and maintain a safe distance.
- Do not place the pump in thick sediments (e.g., mud).
- Always ensure the pump is submerged while running. Insufficient cooling can lead to overheating and motor damage.
- The pump may get hot during operation; turn it off and let it cool before handling.
- Lubricants may escape into the pumped liquid. Do not use the pump for drinking water or water from protected sources.
- Prevent the pump from running dry (e.g., by manually lifting the float switch). Running dry can damage the mechanical seal.
- Protect the power cord from damage by wrapping protective material around sharp edges.
- Disconnect the power plug before performing any maintenance or handling the pump.
- Never carry or suspend the pump by its power cord or float switch cord.
- Only authorized Extol® service centers should perform repairs or electrical work.
- Avoid reducing flow rate by kinking or damaging the hose.
- Prevent abrasive materials or chemicals from entering the pumped liquid.
- Do not leave the pump submerged in liquid during extended periods of non-use.
- Do not leave the pump in freezing temperatures. If frozen, thaw by warming to room temperature; never use direct heat.
- Children aged 8 and older may use the appliance under supervision and if instructed on safe use. Cleaning and maintenance should only be performed by children over 8 years old under supervision. Keep the appliance and cord away from children under 8.
- Persons with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or lacking experience, may use the appliance under supervision and if instructed on safe use. Children must not play with the appliance.
VI. Cleaning and Maintenance
ATTENTION: Disconnect the power cord before any handling.
- Keep the pump clean. After use, flush thoroughly with clean water and remove any adhering material to prevent impeller blockage (see "Putting the Pump Out of Operation").
- Do not use organic solvents for cleaning, as they can damage the plastic housing.
- Regularly inspect all pump parts for wear or damage.
- Replace damaged parts with genuine manufacturer parts.
- For warranty repairs, contact your retailer. For post-warranty repairs, contact an authorized Extol® service center.
- Do not modify the pump for other purposes.
