Installation of X-POWER

Setting up X-Power pedals is quick and easy. Follow the installation steps below and ensure both pedals are fully charged as described on page 8. Install the X-Power app on your mobile phone and follow the in-app installation process.

❗ IMPORTANT

It is essential to perform the installation process using the X-Power App whenever the pedals are removed, installed, or tightened. Failure to do so may result in incorrect data display.

Pedal Installation

Apply grease to the pedal threads. Use a 15 mm open-end wrench (width >6 mm) to install the pedals into your crankset. The recommended minimum torque is 30Nm (22 lbf-ft). The pedal sides are clearly marked with 'R' (Right) and 'L' (Left).

? NOTE

Do not use a cone wrench, as it may damage the charging port.

Thread Type: Right pedal - right-hand thread; Left pedal - left-hand thread.

? NOTE

Pedal clearance to the chain and frame should be greater than two millimetres.

Illustration shows applying grease to pedal threads and using a 15mm wrench. A close-up shows the pedal spindle and crankset interface, indicating a required clearance of greater than 2mm between the pedal and the chain/frame.

Charging the Pedals

To charge the X-Power pedals, attach the magnetic charge adapter to a USB wall charger (not included) using the enclosed USB cable. Connect the adapter to the charge port on the pedal shaft. A blinking red LED indicates the pedal is charging. Once fully charged, the LED will blink green. A full charge cycle takes approximately three hours.

? NOTE

When charging, the internal electronics enter standby mode automatically. To reactivate the pedal, remove the charger and turn the pedal.

A blinking yellow LED indicates cadence for the first few pedal revolutions. A blinking red LED signifies that the pedal battery is low and requires recharging.

? NOTE

Crank boots on your crankset may obstruct the charge port, making charging impossible when mounted. Consider using pedal spacers or removing the boot if necessary.

Illustration shows a USB Micro-B cable connecting to a magnetic charge adapter, which attaches to the pedal's charge port. A status LED is visible on the pedal.

X-POWER APP DOWNLOAD

To configure and calibrate your pedals, download the X-Power application (available for iOS and Android). Enable Bluetooth® on your phone and spin both pedals to turn them on. Follow the on-screen instructions within the app to connect.

❗ IMPORTANT

For correct operation, you must follow the installation steps detailed on pages 10-11.

The app interface displays power, cadence, battery status, and allows for offset calibration and Zwift™ compatibility settings. A QR code is provided for easy app download.

Installation of X-POWER PEDALS

Step 1:

Open the X-Power App and search for your pedals. Ensure both pedals are turned on and Bluetooth® is enabled.

Step 2:

Select the pedal shown. ? NOTE: Only the right pedal will be displayed initially; the left pedal connects automatically once the right pedal is connected.

Step 3:

The 'Status' screen provides information such as battery level. If the left pedal is not visible, proceed with the initial installation by selecting the 'Installation' tab.

Step 4:

Follow the instructions in the Installation Wizard carefully. If the left pedal was not found automatically, you can search and select it on the next screen. Ensure the left pedal is charged and turned on.

Installation Steps 5-8

Step 5:

Set the correct crank length for your crankset.

Step 6: Zero Load Calibration

Perform zero load calibration with no pressure on the pedals to ensure accurate force measurement. ? NOTE: Ensure there is no load on the pedal during offset calibration. Continue to the next step upon successful calibration. Repeat this step if calibration fails.

Step 7: Angle Calibration

Ensure the right crank is positioned directly downwards (at 90 degrees to the ground) and the bike is on a level, flat surface for this calibration step.

Step 8:

If the angle calibration is successful, you are ready to ride! If angle calibration fails, repeat the step until completion, ensuring the crank does not move during the process.

Using X-POWER

Before the first ride: Spin the X-Power pedals to turn them on and connect to your bike computer. Refer to page 14 for pairing instructions and pages 15-16 for mounting cleats and adjusting bindings. Practice engaging and disengaging the cleats, first while stationary and then while riding in a safe location.

Zero Load Calibration

To ensure accurate power measurement, perform a zero calibration before starting your ride. Trigger calibration via the X-Power app or your bike computer by navigating to the sensor menu and selecting the X-Power pedals. The calibration button should be available within the menu. If paired via Bluetooth®, ensure both pedals are calibrated separately.

Temperature Compensation

X-Power pedals are temperature compensated. However, avoid significant temperature changes during the zero load calibration process, as rapid temperature shifts can lead to measurement errors if calibration is performed incorrectly.

? WHAT DOES IT MEAN EXACTLY?

If your bike has been stored in a garage overnight, it is recommended to perform the calibration process, especially if there are significant differences in outside temperatures (hot or cold).

Other App Features

Start Screen

Ensure Bluetooth® is enabled on your device when connecting to the X-Power pedals. Spin the pedals to activate them. Connect to the drive-side pedal; the non-drive pedal will connect automatically if available.

The Info tab provides necessary information for debugging errors and indicates if firmware updates are available.

PowerMeter Pairing

X-Power pedal PowerMeter supports both ANT+™ and Bluetooth® connections. To view data on your device, you must pair the X-Power pedals with your device. Depending on your device, you may see one or more sensors. Select either Bluetooth® or ANT+™ to connect your bike computer.

Pairing via ANT+™

Ensure both pedals are turned on when pairing. Search your device's sensor menu for 'add/pair sensor' and select 'power sensor' if necessary. With ANT+™, only the drive-side serial number will be displayed and needs to be paired. The non-drive pedal (Slave) and drive-side pedal (Master) function as a distributed system, sending all data, including power balance, via the Master to your bike computer.

Pairing via Bluetooth®

Ensure both pedals are turned on when pairing. Search your device's sensor menu for 'add/pair sensor' and select 'power sensor' if necessary. When pairing via Bluetooth®, you must add both pedals separately. Ensure both drive and non-drive pedals are added to obtain correct measurements, including power balance.

Diagram illustrating ANT+ pairing showing a bike computer receiving signals from both pedals (R+L). Diagram illustrating Bluetooth pairing showing a smartphone receiving signals from both pedals (R and L) separately.

Binding and Cleat

Adjust the spring force to achieve the optimal cleat holding force required for releasing the cleats from the bindings. The adjustment bolt is located at the rear of each binding. Use a 3mm allen key to adjust the spring tension. Clockwise rotation increases tension, while counter-clockwise rotation decreases it. Ensure both bindings are adjusted equally.

Position the cleat (A), followed by the cleat adapter (B), onto the sole of the shoe. Temporarily tighten them with the cleat mounting bolts (C) using a 4mm allen key. Ensure the arrow on the cleat points towards the front of the shoe. The cleats are compatible with both left and right pedals. The recommended tightening torque is 5 - 6 Nm (3.7 - 4.4 ft-lbf).

Illustration shows the cleat (A), cleat adapter (B), and mounting bolts (C) being attached to a cycling shoe. An allen key is shown tightening the bolts. An arrow indicates the correct orientation of the cleat towards the front of the shoe.

Engaging and Releasing the Cleats

Engaging the Cleats with the Pedal

Press the cleats into the pedals with a forward and downward motion until the cleat engages with the bindings.

Releasing the Cleats from the Pedal

These cleats release only when the heel is twisted outward.

? NOTE

Practice engaging and releasing the cleats and adjust the holding force if necessary.

Illustration shows a cycling shoe engaging with the pedal mechanism via a forward and downward motion. Another illustration shows releasing the cleat by twisting the heel outward.

Maintenance

To keep the X-Power pedals running smoothly, disassembly is not required. Simply use a dry cloth to wipe away dirt and debris around the green outer seal.

? NOTE

Do not use solvents, as they can damage the seals or other internal parts of the pedal, potentially leading to further damage. Avoid using high-pressure cleaners, as water ingress can damage the components.

Once clean, apply a small amount of lubricant, such as light grease or oil, to the lip of the seal. Spin the pedal a few turns to distribute the lubricant evenly. Wipe away any excess.

Diagram shows a hand wiping the pedal seal with a dry cloth (step 1) and applying lubricant to the seal lip (step 2).

Troubleshooting / FAQ

My bike computer shows no power or cadence

Check if the X-Power pedals are fully charged, turned on, and paired with your bike computer. Follow the installation process with the X-Power app and check the realtime data tab to ensure correct data display.

I see three different sensors when pairing the pedals to my bike computer

Your bike computer likely supports both ANT+™ and Bluetooth®, displaying all detected sensors. Ensure you pair only one protocol (either ANT+™ or Bluetooth®). Refer to page 14 for pairing guidance.

Power data is incorrect / Left - right balance is off

Repeat the installation process using the X-Power app (page 10). Verify that you entered the correct crank length and oriented the drive-side crank downwards during angle calibration. If issues persist, contact SRM; the 'Info' page in the X-Power app can assist with diagnosis.

I already have SPD cleats mounted on my shoes

The X-Power binding is compatible with all SPD-compatible cleats. However, worn cleats may feel looser than the new ones provided. SRM recommends using new cleats for improved engagement and power transmission. See page 15 for instructions on adjusting the binding and mounting cleats.

The body or binding is worn out. How can I replace them?

Remove the four Torx T10 screws on each side of the pedal to detach the old binding. Mount a new binding set and tighten the new screws to a maximum torque of 4 Nm (3 lbf.ft). Adjust the spring tension as described on page 15. The complete pedal body can only be replaced by an authorized SRM Service Center; please contact SRM for details.

How do I know I am on the most up-to-date firmware?

Connect to your X-Power pedals using the X-Power app on your phone. You will be notified in the app if new firmware is available.
