Getting Started: Hook-Up
Follow these steps to connect your amplifier:
- Guitar Connection: Connect your guitar to the INPUT jack using a standard 1/4" instrument cable.
- Power Connection: Connect the included IEC power cable to the POWER SOURCE socket on the rear panel and to a mains outlet.
- Initial Setup: Turn the VOLUME control down to 0. Turn the POWER switch ON. The jewel lamp will light up.
Diagram Description (Hook-up): A diagram illustrates connecting an electric guitar to the amplifier's INPUT jack with a cable. The amplifier's power cord is shown connected to a wall outlet.
System Diagram Description: A diagram shows the Bugera V5 INFINIUM amplifier connected to other audio equipment. The guitar is connected through effects pedals (VD400, VD1, TU300) to the amplifier's INPUT. The amplifier's SPEAKER OUTPUT is connected to a mixer (XENYX QX1204USB) via an XM8500 microphone.
Controls and Operation
Front Panel Controls:
- INPUT: Connect your guitar here using a 1/4" instrument cable.
- GAIN: Adjusts the amount of input gain, harmonics, and overdrive. Higher settings produce more distortion.
- TONE: Adjusts the tonal character of the guitar tone, shaping the sound from bright to warm.
- VOLUME: Adjusts the overall volume output of the speaker or headphones.
- REVERB: Adjusts the amount of reverb effect, adding ambience and depth to your sound. Turn clockwise to increase reverb.
- POWER: Turns the amplifier ON and OFF. The indicator lamp lights when power is on and flashes to indicate an error (refer to INFINIUM advice).
- INFINIUM LED: This LED lights permanently when the power tube needs to be replaced.
Rear Panel Controls:
- PHONES: Connect a pair of headphones with a 1/4" TRS plug for silent practicing. This automatically mutes the internal speaker.
- POWER ATTENUATOR: This switch selects between 5 Watt, 1 Watt, or 0.1 Watt modes. This allows you to achieve tube saturation at lower volumes.
- SPEAKER OUTPUT: Connect the built-in speaker or an external speaker cabinet to this jack using a 1/4" speaker cable. DO NOT use an instrument cable.
Operation Steps:
- Initial Volume Setting: Turn the VOLUME control down to 0.
- Power On: Turn the POWER switch ON. The jewel lamp will light.
- Initial Volume Adjustment: Turn the VOLUME control up to 2.
- Gain Adjustment: Adjust the GAIN knob to control the amount of input gain, harmonics, and overdrive. Experiment to find your desired distortion level.
- Tone Adjustment: Adjust the TONE knob to shape the tonal character of your sound.
- Reverb Adjustment: Turn the REVERB knob clockwise to add reverb.
- Power Attenuator Settings:
- Set the POWER ATTENUATOR to 5W for maximum volume, suitable for loud rehearsals or performances where mic'ing is possible.
- For moderate volume, set the POWER ATTENUATOR to 1W. Turn the VOLUME and GAIN knobs clockwise to achieve a thick, rich distortion sound without excessive volume.
- If the volume is still too loud, move the POWER ATTENUATOR switch to the 0.1W position, ideal for bedroom practice.
- Guitar Volume Interaction: The V5 INFINIUM is sensitive to your guitar's volume output. Rolling back the guitar's volume knob can clean up the tone from a distorted sound. Many players set their preferred tone on the amp and then use the guitar's volume knob for all tonal variations.
Diagram Descriptions (Controls & Operation):
- Diagrams illustrate the function of each control knob (GAIN, TONE, VOLUME, REVERB) and the POWER switch.
- Diagrams show the POWER ATTENUATOR switch settings (5W, 1W, 0.1W) and their effect on volume and distortion.
- An illustration depicts a person playing an electric guitar with the Bugera V5 INFINIUM amplifier.
INFINIUM Valve Life Monitoring
The INFINIUM Tube Life Monitoring circuitry continuously monitors the output tube biasing for optimum performance and consistent tone, even as the tube ages. When the output tube needs replacement, the matching LED on the back panel will light permanently.
If a tube needs replacement, you can plug in the new tube and use the amplifier immediately; no technician is needed to set the bias.
To replace a faulty output tube:
- Switch off the amplifier and wait for the output tube to cool down to a safe temperature before touching it.
- Press down the tube retainer to the chassis with two fingers of one hand, then gently pull the tube while rocking it back and forth until it loosens and slides out of the socket.
- Carefully insert the new tube, ensuring its prongs align with the socket holes and the gap aligns with the corresponding gap in the Noval socket.
- Gently push the new tube until it seats firmly in the socket.
- Switch the amplifier back on in Standby mode.
- Once the tube has warmed up to operating temperature, you may switch the amplifier out of Standby mode.
- The INFINIUM Tube Life Monitoring LED should now turn off, and you can begin playing.
Troubleshooting Indicator: If the front panel light starts flashing regularly, it indicates the amp cannot work due to too many issues. Replace the faulty power amp tube immediately.
Diagram Description (Tube Replacement): Diagrams illustrate the process of replacing a vacuum tube, showing how to press the retainer, gently pull the tube, and insert the new tube.
