Description

The Yale EF-SD is an optical smoke detector designed for use with the Easy Fit EF-Series Alarm System.

Programming & Location

Program the smoke detector before installation and test afterwards. Refer to the system instruction book for initialisation and programming.

Recommended Location:

It is recommended that the installation site is in the centre area of the ceiling.

Locations to Avoid:

• The Kitchen: Smoke from cooking might cause an unwanted alarm.
• Near a ventilating fan, fluorescent lamp, or air conditioning equipment: Air drafts may affect the detector's sensitivity.
• In the peak of an "A" frame type of ceiling, near ceiling beams, or over a cabinet: Stagnant air in these areas may affect the detector's sensitivity.

Operation

Testing the Smoke Detector

To test the smoke detector, press the Test button. A normally functioning detector will activate its LED for 2 seconds and emit a 2-tone beep. If the buzzer sounds three times, the optical chamber may be dirty or out of order. If the LED does not light and no beep is heard, the device may be out of order or the battery may be drained.

Detecting the Smoke

When smoke concentration exceeds the set threshold, the detector transmits a signal to the control panel. Upon completion, it activates its local built-in buzzer with a flashing LED. The detector checks smoke concentration every 10 seconds and continues the local siren warning if the threshold is still exceeded.

To stop an alarm:

1. Pressing the Test button silences the detector's built-in siren for 10 minutes (the control panel siren is not affected). The LED will continue to flash if smoke is still present. If smoke concentration remains high after 10 minutes, the siren will resume.
2. Disarm the system via the control panel to stop the fire event.

Recalibration of Smoke Detector

To recalibrate the smoke detector and set a new reference value:

1. Press and hold the TEST button for 10 seconds until the LED starts to flash.
2. The detector will sound 2 short beeps and begin recalibration, which may take up to 20 minutes.

The smoke detector also recalibrates itself after battery changes.
