Product Overview
The CBU-SKYTIME is a CASAMBI Bluetooth Unit (CBU) featuring a Real-Time Clock (RTC) that synchronizes the CASAMBI network's time and date using GPS signals. This device ensures CASAMBI timers are updated correctly after power outages or temporary power interruptions, independent of the power loss duration. Upon restoration of power, the CBU-SKYTIME automatically synchronizes the CASAMBI Network with the time-date received from satellites via the GPS signal.
The CBU-SKYTIME is available in two configurations:
- CBU-SKYTIME-IP: Powered by 230 Vac @50Hz mains voltage, featuring a Hensel enclosure.
- CBU-SKYTIME-ZG: Powered by a SELV (12-24) Vdc constant voltage power supply, featuring a Zhaga enclosure.
Configuration and parameter adjustments are managed via the CASAMBI mobile application, available for free on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

Installation
⚠️ WARNING! Installation and maintenance must always be carried out in the absence of voltage. Ensure the power source is disconnected before proceeding with connection, adjustment, or installation.
The device must only be connected and installed by qualified personnel. Adherence to all applicable regulations, legislation, standards, and building codes is mandatory. Incorrect installation can lead to irreparable damage to the device and connected loads.
Maintenance must be performed by qualified personnel in compliance with current regulations.
Outdoor installation is recommended. For indoor installations, place the device near an outward-facing window with a clear view of the sky.
The external power supply must be protected by a suitably sized circuit breaker with overcurrent protection.
Keep 230 Vac (LV) circuits and non-SELV circuits separate from SELV ultra-low voltage circuits and product connections. Connecting 230 Vac mains voltage to control terminals (e.g., DMX bus) is strictly forbidden.
The product must be installed vertically or horizontally, with the antenna facing upwards or laterally. Downward antenna orientation is not permitted.
Ensure adequate space around the device for accessibility during future maintenance or updates.
Operation in thermally harsh environments may limit functionality. For devices embedded in luminaires, observe the ambient temperature range and ensure proper thermal management (mounting, ventilation) so that the Tc point temperature does not exceed its maximum limit.
How to Install CBU-SKYTIME-IP
- Safety First: Ensure mains voltage is turned off to prevent electric shock.
- Unlock and Lift Cover: Unlock the cover by turning the 4 corner pins 90 degrees counterclockwise with a 5.5 mm flathead screwdriver. Gently lift the cover.
- Access and Wiring: After removing the cover, access the internal terminals. Insert 230 Vac mains voltage cable(s) into the cable gland(s). Wire Neutral (N) and Live (L) wires to the "N" and "L" terminals of the internal AC IN connector. Use a 3 mm flathead or Phillips screwdriver to tighten wires.
- Tighten Cable Glands: Ensure IP protection by tightening the cable glands outside the case. Fasten the compression nut so the sealing gasket is not deformed. Overtightening can damage the seal.
- Check Connections: Before closing the box, verify all connections are correct and secure.
- Position and Lock Cover: Place the cover on the box, aligning it properly. Lock by turning the 4 corner pins clockwise. Do not force the closure. Ensure pins are well-tightened for secure closure and IP protection.
- Final Check: Verify the cover is firmly attached with no gaps or openings.
Note: The installer is responsible for verifying the installation.

How to Install CBU-SKYTIME-ZG
Zhaga connectors offer standardized plug-and-play connections for easy component integration.
- Safety First: Ensure DC voltage is turned off to prevent electric shock.
- Identify Socket: Locate the Zhaga socket.
- Align Enclosure: Align the CBU's larger locking pin with the Zhaga socket's larger locking slot. Rotate the CBU lightly until alignment pins engage.
- Fit Enclosure: After alignment, push downward until the CBU is fully seated on the socket. It should fit snugly without force.
- Secure Enclosure: While pressing down, rotate the CBU housing clockwise until it locks into place.
- Final Check: Gently pull the CBU housing to confirm it is locked and there are no gaps or openings.
Note: The installer is responsible for verifying the installation.
Remote Control: CASAMBI®
CASAMBI® is a lighting control system utilizing Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology. It enables the creation of customized and flexible wireless lighting networks, easily configured and controlled via Android/iOS smartphones or tablets.
Pair Device to CASAMBI® Network
When a CBU-SKYTIME device is powered on for the first time, it appears in the "Found a new device" section with a default profile. Follow these steps to pair:
- Open the CASAMBI® mobile app and power on the device. The device to be paired will appear.
- Select "Add to..." to view the list of available networks.
- Select the desired network to pair the device with.
- Once the device is added to the network, the default profile will be loaded.
- Double-tap the profile icon to access device configuration.
The CASAMBI app interface guides users through selecting "Nearby Devices", "Add to Network", and confirming the pairing process.
Unpair Device from CASAMBI® Network
To associate the CBU-SKYTIME with a new network or if it's already connected to a known network, unpairing from the current network is necessary.
If you know the network credentials: Tap the device icon in "Nearby Devices", select "Unpair", and confirm. The unpairing process will begin.
If you do not know the network credentials:
- Tap the device icon in "Nearby Devices", select "Unpair", and confirm.
- During the unpair process, turn OFF the Power Supply connected to the CBU-SKYTIME.
- Wait 1-2 seconds, then turn the Power Supply ON again.
- The device will appear as unpaired in the "Nearby Devices" section.
Note: If the power supply is switched OFF and ON too quickly, unpairing might fail. Repeat the sequence, allowing 1-2 seconds between OFF and ON.
Change Profile on Paired Device
After verifying the technical data of the connected load, date and time parameters for a selected profile can be configured by loading the Fixture on the controller. To change the Fixture on the CBU-SKYTIME:
- Power ON the device and open the CASAMBI® mobile app.
- Select "Nearby Devices".
- Tap the device's icon, then tap "Unpair".
- Tap the device's icon again, then tap "Change profile".
- Select the desired profile (refer to Table 5).
- Tap "Start Update".
- Wait for the profile to load correctly.
- Return to "Nearby Devices" and select "Add to [Network name]" to pair with the previous network.
- Once added to the network, go back to the "Luminaires" sheet and double-tap the profile icon to view device configuration.
- Hold tap on the profile icon to access profile settings.
- Within profile settings, date-time settings can be adjusted using sliders and buttons.
The CASAMBI app interface guides users through selecting devices, changing profiles, and updating settings.
Firmware Update on Paired Device
The CASAMBI® mobile app allows for device firmware updates. To check and load updates for the CBU-SKYTIME:
- Power ON the device and open the CASAMBI® mobile app.
- Select "Nearby Devices", navigate to the "More" sheet, tap the "Meatball menu" (three dots), and select "Check for updates".
- If an update is available, a small upward arrow will appear on the device icon. Tap the device icon and select "Update vendor firmware".
- Tap "Start Update" on the subsequent screen. The firmware transfer will commence.
- Wait for the update to complete; this may take up to three minutes.
- After successful update and verification, return to the "Luminaires" sheet. The previous profile will be loaded.
- Double-tap the profile icon to view device configuration settings.
- Tap "Details" to view device information.
- The firmware version can be found under the "Vendor Firmware" item.
The CASAMBI app interface displays the update progress and confirms completion.
Technical Notes
Installation Considerations
⚠️ WARNING! Always perform installation and maintenance with the AC/DC voltage disconnected. Ensure the voltage is off before proceeding.
Only qualified personnel should install and connect the device. Comply with all applicable national and local regulations, standards, and building codes. Improper installation can cause irreparable damage.
Maintenance must be carried out by qualified personnel according to current regulations.
Outdoor installation is recommended. For indoor use, position the device near a window or area with a clear sky view.
The external power supply must be protected with a suitably sized circuit breaker.
Separate 230 Vac (LV) and non-SELV circuits from SELV circuits and product connections. Never connect 230 Vac mains voltage to control terminals.
Install the product vertically or horizontally with the antenna facing upwards or laterally. Downward orientation is not allowed.
Allow adequate space around the device for future maintenance or updates.
Operation in high-temperature environments may be limited. For devices within luminaires, ensure proper thermal management to prevent exceeding maximum temperature limits at the Tc point.
Power Supply Requirements
CBU-SKYTIME-IP: Must be powered by a Mains AC source with short-circuit protection and appropriately sized power, as per the product data sheet. Other power supply types are not permitted.
CBU-SKYTIME-ZG: Must be powered by SELV type power supplies with limited current at constant voltage, short-circuit protection, and appropriately sized power. Other power types are not allowed.
Using an unsuitable power supply may lead to operation outside specified design limits and void the warranty.
If power supplies have earth terminals, connect ALL protection earth (PE) points to a certified earthing system.
Use double-insulated cables for power connections. For CBU-SKYTIME-IP, cables must be correctly sized for the load and isolated from SELV voltage wiring. For CBU-SKYTIME-ZG, cables must be correctly sized and isolated from non-SELV voltage wiring. Connection cable length between the power source and the product should not exceed 10m. For lengths over 10m, the installer must ensure correct system operation. The total connection length must not exceed 30m.
Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and GPS Warnings
The BLE antenna is located inside the device, near the top of the case.
BLE range is typically 10-50 meters, varying with environment and obstacles. Ensure devices are within this range for reliable communication.
Physical barriers like walls and floors can significantly reduce BLE range and signal strength. Position devices to minimize these obstacles.
Other electronic devices, especially those operating on 2.4 GHz (e.g., Wi-Fi routers), can interfere with BLE signals. Keep BLE devices away from such interference sources.
Ensure all devices in your BLE network are compatible and support the same BLE version to avoid communication issues.
BLE is designed for low power consumption, but control device battery life can be affected by transmission frequency and data volume. Monitor and manage power settings for optimal battery life.
BLE technology works best with non-metallic materials. Avoid surrounding the device with metal objects or reflective surfaces when using BLE communication.
For reliable communication, ensure the top surface is not covered by metal objects, wiring, or other electronic devices, as these can affect communication quality.
The device performs optimally outdoors. Indoors, place it near windows or areas with a clear sky view.
GPS signals can be affected by tall buildings, weather, and obstacles. Position the device in an area with good signal coverage and avoid thick walls or metallic objects that attenuate the signal.
Avoid placing the device near other electronic equipment or interference sources (e.g., microwave ovens, cordless phones).
Avoid exposing the device to extreme temperatures, excessive humidity, or violent shocks. Clean the device regularly according to manufacturer instructions.
Periodically check for firmware or software updates, as they often improve stability and security.
