Safety Instructions
Always follow basic safety precautions when using electrical appliances to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and injury. Read all instructions before first use. Do not touch hot surfaces. Do not immerse the cord, plugs, or machine in water or other liquids. This appliance is not intended for use by children, and close supervision is necessary when used near children. Ensure children do not play with the appliance. Burns can occur from touching hot surfaces, water, or steam. Exercise caution with the steam nozzle. First Use or If the Machine Has Not Been Used for a Long Period
Before first use or after a long period of inactivity, rinse the machine with hot water. Ensure the water level is at least 300 ml. Connect the appliance to a mains socket and set the knob (M) to the preheat position (M1).
Making Espresso
For first-time use, clean the appliance as described in the "FIRST USE" section. Ensure the filter holder is tightened before brewing. Do not remove the filter holder while water is flowing.
With ground coffee
- Refer to the first 4 steps of "FIRST USE".
- Add ground coffee to the filter (F1 or F2) using the measuring spoon (L). Pack the coffee down with the tamper (17). Clean excess coffee from the filter holder rim.
- Slot the filter holder into place and turn it to the right until it stops.
- Place cups under the filter holder.
- Press the 1-cup (N) or 2-cup (O) button. The selected button will flash, and the machine will start brewing.
- Unlock and remove the filter holder. Empty the filter using the filter holding hook (G).
- Wash the filter and filter holder under running water.
With Pods (E.S.E.)
- Use E.S.E. pods.
- Insert the E.S.E. filter (F3) into the filter holder.
- Place the pod centrally in the filter holder. Follow pod packaging instructions.
- Repeat steps from "With ground coffee", skipping step 5.
Personalization of Coffee Volume
You can personalize the coffee volume from 15 to 65 ml for 1 cup and 30 to 130 ml for 2 cups. The default volumes are 30 ml (1 cup) and 60 ml (2 cups). To adjust, press and hold the desired espresso button for 3 seconds, then press the button again when the desired volume is reached. The setting will flash three times to confirm.
Recover Default Coffee Volume
In steam pre-heat mode, press and hold the espresso button for 3 seconds. The buttons will flash orange once, and the water pump will activate once to restore default volumes.
Personalization of Automatic Shut Down Time
You can change the automatic shutdown time to 5, 15, or 30 minutes (default is 30 minutes). To change, press and hold the 1-cup and 2-cup buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds. The lights will flash orange: 1 flash for 5 minutes, 2 flashes for 15 minutes, 3 flashes for 30 minutes. Press the button when the lights are not flashing to set the duration. Wait for the lights to turn white to confirm.
Steam Function
Making Cappuccino
- Prepare espresso in large cups.
- Press the steam button (P). The machine enters steam pre-heating mode.
- Fill a container with 60-100 ml of cold milk. Use fresh, cold milk for best results.
- Set the steam nozzle to the foaming function (H1).
- Place the steam nozzle into the milk container.
- Turn the knob (M) to the steam position (M2). Foam the milk, moving the nozzle and container as described in the manual.
- Turn the knob back to the preheat position (M1) when done.
- Pour the milk foam over the espresso.
Hot Milk Preparation
Follow the "Making Cappuccino" steps, but set the steam nozzle to the hot milk function (H2) in step 4.
Good to Know - Practice After Using Steam
If preparing espresso after using steam, cool down the machine. Press the button to return to coffee brewing mode. If the buttons flash, the temperature is too high. Immerse the steam nozzle in 60 ml of water and turn the knob to steam (M2) to produce hot water. Once cooled, turn the knob back to preheat (M1).
Hot Water Preparation
- The machine is in coffee brewing mode.
- Place a container under the steam nozzle.
- Turn the knob to the steam position (M2). The machine will produce hot water and stop when the knob is returned to preheat (M1).
Cleaning and Maintenance
Unplug the appliance before cleaning and allow it to cool. Clean the exterior with a damp sponge. Do not use solvents or abrasive detergents. Rinse the water tank regularly. Clean the drip tray (J) and grill (I) with water and mild detergent. Only the drip tray grill is dishwasher safe. Clean the filter holder and filters with a damp cloth. To remove deposits from filters, a needle can be used. Filters are dishwasher safe. Clean the steam nozzle (H) after each use by flushing with water. The steam nozzle tube is dishwasher safe. Important: Do not clean any parts of this appliance in a dishwasher, except for the drip tray grill, steam nozzle tube, and filter cups.
Descaling
The machine can be descaled at any time. The descaling light will indicate when it's necessary. Prepare descaler according to manufacturer's instructions and add to the water tank with approx. 750 ml of drinking water. Place a receptacle under the spouts and insert the filter holder without a filter. Press the 1-cup and 2-cup buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds to start the automatic descaling program. The machine will cycle water through until the tank is empty. After descaling, rinse the appliance 2-3 times with clean water, including the steam nozzle.
Troubleshooting
Coffee Issues
- Weak Coffee: Not enough coffee used, or coffee is too finely ground. Add more coffee or use a coarser grind.
- Slow Espresso Flow: Coffee is too fine or mealy, or filter holder is dirty/clogged. Clean the filter holder, or use a coarser grind.
- Water Flowing from Filter Holder After Espresso: Scale buildup or too much coffee. Descale the machine or remove excess coffee.
- Coffee Grounds in Cup: Filter holder clogged, coffee grounds too fine, or seal on filter holder clogged. Clean the filter holder and seal, or use a coarser grind.
- Non-Frothy Espresso: Coffee is too old, not suitable for espresso, or too little coffee in the filter holder. Use freshly ground, suitable coffee, and add more coffee.
Machine Operation Issues
- Water Tank Leaks: Valve at the bottom of the tank is dirty or defective. Wash the valve.
- Water Leak Beneath Appliance: Valve blocked by scale, or internal leak. Descale the machine or check tank positioning. Consult service if problem persists.
- Noisy Pump: No water in the tank. Fill the water tank and restart the pump.
- Espresso Leaks from Filter Holder Sides: Filter holder not positioned correctly, or edge of filter holder clogged with coffee. Position filter holder correctly and clean the edge.
- Bad Tasting Espresso: Rinsing cycle after descaling not done correctly. Rinse the appliance as per instructions.
- Uneven Cup Filling: Filter holder clogged. Clean the filter holder.
- Appliance Not Working: Pump disabled due to lack of water, water tank incorrectly positioned, or appliance not connected. Fill water tank, position tank correctly, and ensure appliance is switched on.
- Nozzle Not Working or Little Foam: Nozzle not installed correctly, milk not fresh/too warm, steam nozzle has excess limescale, or container shape is unsuitable. Check nozzle installation, use fresh milk, descale nozzle, or adjust container.
- 1-Cup Espresso Button Flashing Alternately White/Orange, 2-Cup Button White: Water shortage or blocked water path. Fill water tank or consult service.
- On Button White, Espresso Buttons & Steam Button Orange: Boiler temperature too high or too low, or sensor broken. Turn off and on again, or consult service.
- On Button White, Espresso Buttons Orange: Machine warming up or pre-heating steam, but knob not in preheat position. Move knob to preheat position.
- On Button White, Steam Button Orange: Machine is heating water or pre-heating steam, but knob not in preheat position. Move knob to preheat position.
Guarantee
This appliance carries a 2-year manufacturer's guarantee for domestic use only. The guarantee is void for commercial use, inappropriate use, or failure to comply with instructions. For after-sales service or spare parts, contact an approved service center. The guarantee does not cover issues related to lack of descaling, limescale buildup, or accessories cleaned in a dishwasher (except for the drip tray grill, steam nozzle tube, and filter cups).
