Introduction

This document provides installation and operational guidance for the JENSEN CAR714MW 7" 2-DIN Capacitive Touch Screen Multimedia Mechless Receiver. It supports AM-FM-RDS, SXM-READY, USB Multimedia Playback, and Front/Rear Camera Inputs. It is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Safety Notice

Video/movie playback will not operate while the vehicle is moving. This is a safety feature to prevent driver distraction. In-dash video/movie functions will only operate when the vehicle is in Park and the parking brake is engaged. It is illegal in most jurisdictions for the driver to view video while the vehicle is in motion.

Note: Watching video while driving is against Federal, State, and Local laws. Drive safely, know and obey traffic rules. Watching this screen and making selections while driving can lead to a serious accident. Check surroundings for safety while camera images are displayed.

Do not use features of this product while driving if it cannot be operated safely and legally in your location. Before operation of smartphone apps accessible from this device, read safety instructions in your Owner's Manual. When using navigation apps, stay alert to observe real-world conditions. By pressing the "AGREE" button, you have confirmed that you have fully read, understand, and accepted these usage terms and conditions.

It is highly recommended that your JENSEN CAR714MW is installed by a professional installer or an authorized dealer.

This product is only for use in vehicles with 12VDC negative ground only.

To prevent damage or injury:

  • Make sure to ground the unit securely to the vehicle chassis ground.
  • Do not remove the top or bottom covers of the unit.
  • Do not install the unit in a spot exposed to direct sunlight or excessive heat or the possibility of water splashing.
  • Do not subject the unit to excessive shock.
  • When replacing a fuse, only use a new one with the correct rating. Using a fuse with the wrong rating may cause the unit to malfunction.
  • To prevent short circuits when replacing a fuse, disconnect the wiring harness first.
  • Use only the provided hardware and wire harness.
  • If you experience problems during installation, consult your nearest JENSEN dealer.
  • If the unit malfunctions, reset the unit as described. If the problem still persists, consult your nearest JENSEN dealer or call tech assistance @ 1-888-921-4088.
  • To clean the monitor, wipe only with a dry silicone cloth or soft cloth. Do not use a stiff cloth, or solvents such as paint thinner and alcohol. They can scratch the surface of the panel and/or remove the printing.
  • When the temperature of the unit falls (as in winter), the liquid crystal inside the screen will become darker than usual. Normal brightness will return after the unit is in use for a while.
  • When extending the ignition, battery, or ground wiring, make sure to use automotive-grade wiring with a minimum AWG 16 or more to prevent voltage drops.
  • Do not touch the liquid crystal fluid if the LCD is damaged or broken. The liquid crystal fluid may be hazardous to your health or fatal. If the liquid crystal fluid from the LCD contacts your body or clothing, wash it off with soap immediately.

INSTALLATION

Preparation

Please read and understand the entire manual before installation. Consult a qualified technician for detailed instructions or installation assistance.

Before You Start

  • Disconnect negative battery terminal.
  • Avoid installing the unit where it would be subject to high temperatures, such as from direct sunlight, or where it would be subject to dust, dirt, or excessive vibration.

Getting Started

  • Unpack unit from its protective packaging.
  • Connect vehicle wiring harness and antenna to this receiver's harness. See wiring instructions. Consult a qualified technician if you are unsure.
  • Certain vehicles may require an installation dash kit and/or wiring harness adapter (sold separately).
  • Reconnect battery negative terminal.
  • Test for correct operation and secure back into dashboard.
  • Snap trim ring into place if needed.

Input / Output Wiring Diagram

A detailed wiring diagram illustrates the connections for various components, including power, speakers, antenna, cameras, and audio inputs/outputs. Key connections include:

  • GPS, WIFI, IGNITION/ACC 12V(+), GROUND(-), BATTERY(+), ILLUMINATION, REVERSE(+), SUB1, SUB, ANT
  • Speaker Outputs: Front Left, Front Right, Rear Right, Rear Left
  • Audio Inputs: Left audio input, Right audio input
  • Video Input
  • SUB-OUT1, SUB-OUT2

Tips: When replacing a fuse, make sure to use the correct type and amperage. Using an incorrect fuse could cause damage. The unit uses (1) 15 amp ATO blade-type fuse located on the back of the unit.

Wiring Notes:

Front / Rear camera inputs: Up to two cameras (not included) can be used. Recommended optional JENSEN Backup Camera Part # BUCAM200J for FRONT CAMERA and BUCAM300AJ or BUCAM400AJ for REAR CAMERA.

OPERATION

Getting Started - First Time Setup Wizard

The first time the unit is powered ON, the SETUP WIZARD will guide you through the main radio system settings and connect to your Bluetooth Device.

  • STEP 1: Select Language: Choose from available system languages.
  • STEP 2: Set the Clock: Set the clock automatically or manually. Options include RDS Clock Sync and Phone Clock Sync.
  • STEP 3: Set Radio Region: Select your geographical region (Latin America, Europe, North America).
  • STEP 4: Set RDS Functions: Turn RDS (Radio Data System) ON or OFF.
  • STEP 5: Auto Store Presets: Scan and store the best local radio stations.
  • STEP 6: Pair Bluetooth: Scan for and pair your Bluetooth device.

Tips: The SETUP WIZARD can be skipped at any time. To rerun the WIZARD again, press the RESET button with a paperclip for 3 seconds.

Main Control Locations

The unit features several physical controls:

  1. Power On/Off: Press the button to turn the unit on or off.
  2. Mute: Press to silence the audio. Momentarily press again to return to the previously selected volume. Turning the volume while muted will also cancel the mute function.
  3. Volume UP/Down & Push Voice Activation: Turn Left to decrease the volume level. Turn Right to increase the volume level. Press the button to activate voice commands.
  4. System RESET: To reset all settings (except SXM), use a Paperclip to press for 3 seconds.

Source Menu Operation

The Source Menu provides access to various functions:

  • Quick Select Sources: Press for Top 3 Sources in use.
  • Radio: Radio Tuner Direct Access.
  • Media Player: Main Media Player Direct Access.
  • BT Phone: Handsfree Calling Direct Access.
  • Full Screen Clock: Press for full screen Clock; press anywhere again to return to previous mode.
  • Settings Menu: Direct access to System Setup Menu.
  • Rear/Front Camera: Rear/Front Camera Direct Input Access.
  • Auxiliary AV Input: AV Direct Input Access.
  • BT Music: BT Media Player Direct Access.
  • Maestro: Access to vehicle's factory functionalities.
  • USB Media Port: USB Media Player Direct Access.
  • SXM Radio: SXM Radio Direct Access (Optional tuner required).
  • CarPlay: CarPlay Direct Access.
  • Android Auto: Android Auto Direct Access.

AM/FM Tuner Operation

The tuner interface allows for selecting bands, presets, and adjusting settings:

  • Quick Select Sources: Press for Top 3 Sources in use.
  • BAND Selector: Press for AM | FM | SXM Radio (Optional SXM Tuner required).
  • BAND 1-3 Presets 1-18: To store Channel Presets, press and HOLD for 3 seconds.
  • Stereo | Mono: Stereo | Mono Indicator.
  • Local | Distance: Local | Distance Indicator.
  • Station RBDS Information: Station RBDS RT Data String Indicator.
  • Quick Select BAND 1 2 3: Press for BAND 1 | BAND 2 | BAND 3.
  • EQ Info: EQ Current Status Indicator.
  • Additional Options: Press for additional RBDS Settings.
  • Direct Equalizer: Press for EQ Control.
  • Next: Press to SEEK UP Next Channel.
  • Direct Channel Entry: Press to Auto Store Stations.
  • Station: Current Station Indicator.
  • Direct Station Entry: Press for Direct Station Entry.
  • Preset Scan: Press to Scan Presets.
  • Previous: Press to SEEK DOWN Previous Channel.
  • Local | Distance: Press for change to Local or Distance.

Media Player - USB / BT Music / AV AUX Input

The Media Player supports USB, Bluetooth Music, and AV AUX input.

  • USB Music: Displays track information, playback controls (Play/Pause, Next/Previous, Shuffle, Repeat), and file list access.
  • BT Music: Similar playback controls for Bluetooth audio.
  • AV AUX Input: Displays "Now Playing AV Input" and prompts to adjust volume on the connected device.

SiriusXM® Satellite Radio Activation

SiriusXM® Satellite Radio offers over 140 channels. A SiriusXM Vehicle Tuner and Subscription are required.

Activation Process:

  1. Install the SiriusXM Connect Vehicle Tuner and antenna.
  2. Power on the radio and select SiriusXM mode.
  3. Tune to the SiriusXM preview channel (Channel 1).
  4. Tune to Channel 0 to find the Radio ID of your tuner. The Radio ID is also located on the bottom of the tuner.
  5. Activate online at www.siriusxm.com/activatenow or by calling SiriusXM Listener Care at 1-866-635-2349 (USA) or 1-877-438-9677 (Canada).

Note: Activation typically takes 10-15 minutes but may take up to one hour. Keep the vehicle powered on until the "Subscription Updated" message appears.

Once activated, you can tune to channels in your subscription plan. From the Main Menu, touch the SiriusXM icon to begin operation.

SiriusXM® Satellite Radio Operation - Part 1

The interface includes:

  • Band Selector: Press for SXM Band 1 | Band 2 | Band 3.
  • Satellite Strength: Satellite Signal Strength Indicator.
  • BAND Presets 1-6: To store Channel Presets, press and HOLD 3 seconds.
  • Channel Info: Current Channel number Indicator.
  • File Information: Displays current song information (Channel Name, Artist Name, Song Title, Album Artwork).
  • Quick Select Bands: Press to quick select Bands 1-3.
  • EQ Info: EQ Current Status Indicator.
  • Additional Options: Press to enter for Password | Parent Control | Version.
  • Favorites Alert: Favorite Artist or Song Alert Indicator.
  • Direct Equalizer: Press for EQ Control.
  • Favorites Manager: Press to enter Favorites Manager Lists.
  • Next: Press for Next Channel.
  • Direct Channel Entry: Press for Direct Channel Entry.
  • Channel / Album Artwork: Displays Channel / Album Artwork.
  • Previous: Press for Previous Channel.
  • Category Manager: Press to enter Category Manager.
  • Channel Manager: Press to enter Channel Manager.

SiriusXM® Radio Operation - Part 2

Channel Manager: Allows browsing and selection of channels.

  • Quick Select Sources: Press for any of Top 3 Sources in use.
  • Channel List: Channel Information.
  • Media Player: Press to return to SXM mode.
  • Info Selection: Channel | Artist | Song | Info.
  • Page Scrolling: Drag up or down for quick page scrolling.

Category Manager: Allows browsing by category (e.g., Pop).

SiriusXM® Radio Operation - Part 3

Favorite Selection

You can select favorite songs or artists. An alert is active when a Favorite Song or Artist is available.

Favorites Manager

  • Quick Select Sources: Press for any of Top 3 Sources in use.
  • Favorites List: Stored Favorites List.
  • Exit: Press to return to SXM mode.
  • Content Selection: Press to select Artist | Song.
  • Edit: Delete Content from list.

Tips: Up to 50 Songs and 50 Artists can be stored as Favorites.

SiriusXM® Parental Control

Access Parental Control via the Settings Menu.

  • Lock/Unlock Screen: Enter your 4-digit password to unlock channels. The default password is 0000.
  • Change Password: Allows changing the password from the default or current custom password to another password.

SiriusXM® Radio Advisory Messages

The unit may display advisory messages related to SiriusXM service:

  • Check Antenna: Indicates a fault with the SiriusXM antenna. Check cable connections and inspect for damage.
  • Check Tuner: Indicates difficulty communicating with the SiriusXM Connect Vehicle Tuner. Verify tuner connection.
  • No Signal: Indicates difficulty receiving the SiriusXM satellite signal. Ensure clear sky view, proper antenna mounting, and check for obstructions.
  • Subscription Updated: Notifies that the channel is not included in the current subscription plan. Contact SiriusXM for details.
  • Channel Unavailable: The requested channel is not valid or no longer available. Visit siriusxm.com for lineup information.
  • Channel Unsubscribed: The channel is not included in the subscription package. Contact SiriusXM for details.
  • Channel Locked: The channel is locked by the Parental Control feature. Refer to the Parental Control section for access.

iDatalink Maestro

This Jensen receiver connects with a compatible iDatalink Maestro programmable interface (optional, purchased separately), allowing the unit to display OEM features and functions such as Vehicle Info, Parking Assistance, and Climate Control, as well as retaining other capabilities which could include steering wheel controls and voice commands. The functions displayed are dependent on your specific vehicle.

10-BAND Equalizer

The 10-Band Equalizer allows for custom frequency adjustments.

  • 10-Band Sliders: Press to custom adjust frequencies.
  • 7 Presets + 1 Custom: Flat | R&B | Rock | Pop | HipHop | Jazz | Custom.
  • RESET: Resets all frequencies to Flat.
  • Exit EQ: Press to return to previous Source Mode.

Tips: Each SOURCE will remember their respective EQ settings.

System Audio Settings

Additional System Audio settings are found in System Settings/Audio:

  • Balance: Left | Right adjustment.
  • Fader: Front | Rear adjustment.
  • SUB: ON/OFF toggle.
  • SUB Crossover Filter: OFF | 50Hz | 80Hz | 120Hz | 160Hz selection.
  • EQ: Press to adjust EQ levels.
  • Loudness: ON/OFF toggle.
  • Volume: Adjusts volume levels for Main Volume, BT Ringer, BT Call, Navi Mix, and Device Mix.
  • Source Level: Set desired volume level for each audio source.
  • Amp: Turn internal amp on or off.

Bluetooth - Handsfree Operation

Preparation

Before using a Bluetooth device, it must be paired and connected. Ensure Bluetooth is activated on your device before pairing.

Pairing a New Device

The unit broadcasts the pairing signal constantly when no devices are connected. Complete the pairing sequence from your Bluetooth device. The device name is "JENSENBT".

Connecting a Paired Device

Most Bluetooth devices support auto-connect. If a previously paired device does not connect, enter the Bluetooth setup menu and turn Auto Connect on.

Bluetooth Phone

To access the phone, select Bluetooth Phone from the Main Menu or any operational mode.

  • Signal Strength: Displays the strength of the current signal.
  • Keypad: Press to display the keypad.
  • Contacts: Press to display stored contacts.
  • Recent Calls: Press to display a list of recent calls.

Device Manager

Press to display a list of paired devices and select the desired device to connect.

Keypad Operations

  • Talk: Press to connect a call to the number entered.
  • Backspace: Press to backspace when using the keypad.
  • Phone Number: Displays the number dialed.
  • End Call: Press to end a call.
  • Mute: Press to mute call audio.
  • Display Keypad: Press to return to the keypad.
  • Transfer Audio: Press to transfer call audio between the unit and the mobile phone.

Connected Mobile Devices - Apple CarPlay

CarPlay is a smarter, safer way to use your iPhone in the car, putting desired iPhone functions on the receiver's display. It offers voice control via Siri for directions, calls, messages, and music.

  • Phone: Use Siri to make calls, return missed calls, listen to voicemail, and view caller ID.
  • Messages: Ask Siri to send, read, and reply to text messages for hands-free operation.
  • Music: Access music by artist, song, playlist, and more via the receiver's touchscreen or Siri.
  • Maps: Use Siri for turn-by-turn directions. Apple Maps will be mirrored on the screen with traffic information.

Some features, applications, and services may not be available in all areas.

CarPlay is compatible with: iPhone 11 Pro Max, 11 Pro, 11, XS, XS Max, XR, X, 8, 8 Plus, 7, 7 Plus, 6s.

For best results:

  • Always use an Apple Certified USB-A Lightning cable.
  • A car mount for your phone is recommended.

CarPlay - Operation

Starting CarPlay: Connect an iPhone to the receiver's USB port using an Apple Certified Lightning cable. Apple CarPlay will launch automatically.

Note: CarPlay features are limited while driving and vary by app provider.

The HOME button on the CarPlay menu functions like the HOME button on your iPhone.

  • Press and hold to activate Siri. You can also press the unit's PTT button.
  • Press HOME momentarily to return to the main CarPlay menu screen.

Press any Application button on the main CarPlay menu to access operations directly. The toolbar on the left displays time, signal strength, and shortcuts to Phone, Music, and Navigation.

Note: When CarPlay is in use, the unit's Bluetooth will turn off automatically, and hands-free functionality will operate through CarPlay. Other Bluetooth devices will be disconnected.

Exit CarPlay

Disconnecting your iPhone will automatically exit CarPlay mode. To exit manually while the phone is connected, press the Jensen button momentarily; the unit's main SOURCE menu will be displayed.

Connected Mobile Devices - Android Auto

Android Auto brings useful apps to your phone screen or the unit's display, making it easy to keep your focus on driving. Control navigation, maps, calls, text messages, and music.

  • Google Assistant: Use voice commands like "Ok Google" to control functions while driving.
  • Navigation: Get real-time traffic alerts and find the fastest route.
  • Calls & Messages: Stay connected by calling phone numbers, chatting with apps, and replying to messages via voice.

Compatible Devices: An Android phone running Android 5.0 (Lollipop) and up with a data plan. Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) and up is recommended for best performance.

For best results:

  • Use an OEM USB cable.
  • A car mount for your phone is recommended.

Starting Android Auto

Connect an Android Auto compatible device via USB cable. Android Auto will launch automatically or can be accessed from the main menu.

Note: When connected, the device is also connected via Bluetooth. If five devices are paired, you may be prompted to delete a device.

Note: If Android Auto is active during a call on another phone, Bluetooth will switch to the Android Auto device.

Using Android Auto

The Android Auto home screen displays personalized information like destination time, reminders, recent calls, messages, and music. Use "OK Google" or the microphone icon to talk to Google.

Exit Android Auto

To exit Android Auto, press the Exit button. Disconnecting your Android phone will also automatically exit Android Auto mode.

Cameras & Auxiliary Input

Rear Camera

Connect an optional rear camera to the Rear Camera inputs (Yellow RCA for video, Black RCA for audio). Refer to the wiring diagram.

Manual selection: Touch the REAR CAMERA icon from the Main Menu or any operational mode to select camera mode. Touch the top left area to exit camera mode. This mode is for cameras that are always on while driving.

The unit automatically selects camera mode when connected to the reverse lamp circuitry.

Note: The external video output is not active when using the rear camera input.

Front Camera

Connect an optional front camera to the Front Camera inputs (Yellow RCA for video; no audio connection). Refer to the wiring diagram.

Auxiliary Input

Connect an optional audio source into the rear RCA input. Select AUX IN from the Main Menu to listen to audio. Adjust volume on the external audio source as needed.

Notes:

  • For USB mode, viewing JPG files on the in-dash monitor is disabled while the vehicle is moving as a safety feature. The JPG image viewer functions only when the vehicle is in park and the parking brake is engaged.

Media Compatibility - Incompatible Files:

Playback Order: MP3 playback sequence begins in the root folder of the USB drive. Folders without MP3/JPG files are skipped.

Compatible Recording Formats (ISO9660 standards):

  • Maximum nested folder depth is 8 (including the root folder).
  • Valid characters for folder/file names are letters A-Z (all caps), numbers 0-9, and "_" (underscore). Some characters may not be displayed correctly.

Notes: Some files may not play, depending on sampling rates and bit rates. For best results, use 128kbps or higher constant bit rate and 44.1kHz or higher sampling frequency when ripping MP3 files.

Settings Menu

From the Main Menu, press the gear icon ⚙️ to access the Setup menu and adjust settings for General, Audio, Display, Radio, and Bluetooth.

General

  • Time: Set the time.
  • Date: Set the date.
  • Time Zone: Select time zone.
  • Daylight Savings Time: Turn Daylight Savings Time on or off.
  • Clock Sync Automatically: Select RDS, Phone, or Off.
  • Language: Set the language to English or Spanish.
  • Key Beep: Turn the key beep on or off.
  • Power Off Delay: Turn the power off delay on or off.
  • Factory Reset: Reset unit to factory default settings.

Audio

  • Balance/Fader: Adjust balance and fader levels.
  • Subwoofer Output: Turn subwoofer output on or off.
  • Subwoofer Filter: Select between 50Hz, 80Hz, 120Hz, 160Hz, or Off.
  • EQ: Adjust EQ levels.
  • Loudness: Turn Loudness feature on or off.
  • Volume: Adjusts volume levels for Main Volume, BT Ringer, BT Call, Navi Mix, and Device Mix.
  • Source Level: Set desired volume level for each audio source.
  • Amp: Turn internal amp on or off.

Display

  • Screen: Control illumination, adjust levels for Gamma Day, Gamma Night, Day Brightness, and Night Brightness.
  • LED: Turn animation effect on or off, select illumination color, day/night colors, and brightness levels.
  • Wallpaper: Select from available wallpaper options.

Radio

  • Radio Region: Select North America, Europe, or Latin America.
  • RDS/RBDS: Enable or disable this feature.
  • Traffic Announcements: Enable or disable this feature.
  • Alternate Frequencies: Enable or disable this feature.

Bluetooth

  • Bluetooth: Turn Bluetooth signal on or off.

OPTIONS - Steering Wheel Controls

A third-party adapter is required for compatibility with OEM steering wheel controls. The CAR714MW has a built-in 3.5mm SWC interface compatible with modules like PAC, METRA.

A diagram shows the 3.5mm SWC port location and harness connections.

Note: Not all OE steering wheel functions may be supported.

Recommended Adapter: PAC SWI-RC.

Programming Instructions:

  1. Set "Radio Select Switch" to position 7 - "Pioneer/Other/Sony".
  2. Program using the Pioneer/Sony/Other radio function mapping order.
  3. If a function is not supported or desired, skip it as per the PAC SWI-RC instructions.
  4. Program the SWC function in the correct order per the PAC SWI-RC radio function mapping order instructions.

WARRANTY

Limited One Year Warranty

Namsung America Inc. warrants this product to the original purchaser to be free from defects in material and workmanship for one year from the date of original purchase.

Namsung America Inc. will, at its option, repair any defect or furnish an equal new, renewed, or comparable product during the warranty period. Subsequent replacement products are warranted for the balance of the original warranty period.

Who is covered?

This warranty is extended to the original retail purchaser for products purchased from an authorized Dual dealer and used in the U.S.A.

What is covered?

This warranty covers all defects in material and workmanship. It does not cover: software, installation/removal costs, damage from accident, misuse, abuse, neglect, modification, improper installation, incorrect line voltage, unauthorized repair, or damage during return shipment.

What to do?

  1. Before calling for service, check the troubleshooting guide in your owner's manual.
  2. If service is required during the warranty period, pack the product (preferably in the original package) and ship it by prepaid transportation with a copy of the original receipt to an authorized service center.
  3. Describe your problem in writing, including your name, return UPS shipping address (P.O. Box not acceptable), and a daytime phone number.
