Safety Requirements
To ensure proper use, read this manual thoroughly before using the amplifier. It is crucial to understand the CAUTIONS provided.
- Installation must be performed by a qualified professional.
- Wear safety glasses, insulated gloves, and appropriate tools during installation.
- This amplifier is designed for 12V batteries. Always verify the voltage before installation.
- Install the amplifier in a firm location with at least 1" (25mm) of space around the heatsink for adequate heat dissipation.
- Avoid installing the amplifier in areas exposed to dust, humidity, or water. Ensure it is placed away from fuel tanks, fuel lines, heat sources, and other vehicle components.
- Install a protection fuse or circuit breaker near the battery, following the recommended amperage. Incorrect fuse or breaker usage can lead to overheating, smoke, product damage, injury, or burns.
- Avoid routing wires over or through sharp edges. Use rubber or plastic grommets to protect wires passing through the vehicle's body.
- Before making any connections, disconnect the negative (-) terminal of the battery.
- The external surface of the amplifier may become hot during use. Avoid touching the heatsink area and keep children away from the amplifier.
- This amplifier can produce high sound pressure levels. Avoid continuous exposure to levels above 85dB to prevent permanent hearing loss.
- Speaker output connections may have voltage levels when the amplifier is operating. Ensure the amplifier is turned OFF before connecting or disconnecting any terminals.
- Dispose of this amplifier responsibly. Do not discard it in domestic waste. It must be collected by an electronic product disposal service for proper recycling.
Safety Symbols: Pay attention to safety symbols throughout the manual. The "CAUTION" symbol (⚠️) alerts users to important instructions. Failure to follow these instructions may result in injury or product damage.
Taramps reserves the right to modify this manual's content without prior notice and is not obligated to apply changes to previously produced units.
Functions and Inputs
Refer to the diagram for the amplifier's controls and connections.
- INPUT (RCA): Signal inputs for amplification. Connect to the Head Unit's RCA outputs using good quality shielded cables to prevent noise interference.
- GAIN: Adjusts the amplifier's input sensitivity for optimal matching with various Head Unit output signal levels. With the MIN setting, the amplifier accepts signals up to 4V RMS on the RCA input.
- CROSSOVER: Configures the amplifier's operating mode:
- FULL: Amplifies the entire audio range (8Hz to 25KHz). Typically used with an external crossover.
- HPF (High Pass Filter): Amplifies signals above 90Hz. Suitable for mid-bass, mid-range speakers, or two-way/6x9" speakers.
- LPF (Low Pass Filter): Amplifies only bass frequencies, with a cutoff at 90Hz (-12dB/8ª). Ideal for subwoofers.
- HIGH INPUT (WIRE): Input for high-level/low-impedance signals (from speaker outputs of Head Units). Features automatic turn-on via the input signal, compatible with original Head Units with speaker diagnosis (A.S.S. Advanced Speaker Simulation). This eliminates the need for the REMOTE IN wire. Note: If auto turn-on doesn't function due to the Head Unit's audio output circuit, use the REMOTE wire.
- ON: Indicator light showing the amplifier is powered on.
Output & Power Supply Connector
Refer to the diagram for output and power connections.
- OUTPUT: For connecting speakers. Observe polarity and recommended impedance.
- STEREO: Minimum impedance is 2 ohms per channel.
- BRIDGE: Minimum impedance is 4 ohms.
When combining speakers, consider the resulting impedance. Examples are provided in the manual.
Example Impedance Calculations:
- For Bridge Connection = 4 OHMS (e.g., two 8 OHMS speakers in series result in 4 OHMS).
- For Stereo Connection = 2 OHMS (e.g., two 4 OHMS speakers in parallel result in 2 OHMS).
- POWER (Power Supply Connector):
- (+) Terminal: Connect to the battery's positive pole with a minimum 6mm² (9 AWG) wire.
- (-) Terminal: Connect to the battery's negative pole with a wire gauge equivalent to the positive cable.
- REMOTE Terminal: Connect to the Head Unit's REMOTE output using a 0.75mm² (18 AWG) wire (unless using HIGH INPUT).
CAUTION: Before making any power connections, ensure the vehicle battery's negative (-) terminal is disconnected.
Protection System:
Short-circuit Protection: The amplifier shuts down the audio signal if a short-circuit or impedance lower than the supported level is detected at the output. Operation resumes automatically once the short-circuit or overload condition is removed.
Installation
CAUTION: All connections (power supply, input, and output) must be made only when the amplifier is turned OFF.
Recommended Wire Gauge & Fuse
- Positive/Negative Power Supply Cable: 6mm² (9 AWG)
- Output Cables Wire Gauge: 1.5mm² (15 AWG)
- Remote Cable: 0.75mm² (18 AWG)
- Protection Fuse or Circuit Breaker: 50A
*Calculated for a maximum length of 4m. For longer distances, increase the cable gauge.
CAUTION: Using wire gauges below the recommendation can result in power loss and wire overheating. Always check polarity and never reverse power supply cables to avoid amplifier damage. It is mandatory to install protection fuses or circuit breakers as close as possible to the battery(ies).
Diagram: The manual includes a wiring diagram illustrating the connections for a subwoofer, woofers, the amplifier, battery, and Head Unit. It shows recommended wire gauges and connection examples.
Note: For compression drivers and tweeters, a passive filter must be installed on the positive terminal (consult the transducer manufacturer's manual).
CAUTION: The entire aluminum surface of the amplifier acts as a heatsink. Normal working temperature is up to 70°C (158°F). Avoid touching this surface while the amplifier is in use.
CAUTION: This equipment is not suitable for use in areas where children may be present.
If the Head Unit does not have 4 RCA outputs, use "Y" type cable adapters to connect the amplifier's 4 inputs.
