This guide provides detailed information on the various cycles, options, and controls available for Whirlpool dishwashers.

Cycle Guide

This information covers several different models. Your dishwasher may not have all of the cycles and options described.

NOTE: Some detergents are not recommended for short wash cycles; please refer to your detergent packaging for more information.

*The government energy certifications are not based on this cycle. See the Normal cycle description for the government energy certification cycle. Using the Sensor cycle may increase your energy usage.

**No other washing and drying temperature options were selected, and the dishwasher was not subjected to truncated testing. Rinse aid was not used, and there was no detergent used in the prewash.

NOTE: More water can be used if higher soil levels are detected in all cycles.

DelayThe start of a cycle can be delayed for a period of time between 1 hour and 24 hours. Select the desired program and options. Press the Delay button (repeatedly) to delay the start of the program. Press the START/Resume button and close the door within 4 seconds. The timer will begin counting down. Once the time has passed, the delay indicator light switches off and the program begins automatically.AllDelays the start of a cycle to the specified duration.00

NOTE: The Sanitized indicator will light when the Sanitized Rinse has been selected. The indicator will glow when a cycle is finished. If the Sanitized Rinse option fails or is interrupted, the indicator will blink.

Control Guide

Dishwasher Controls
ControlPurposeComments
START ResumeTo start or resume a wash cycle.If the door is opened during a cycle or the power is interrupted, the Start indicator flashes. The cycle will not resume until the door is closed and START is selected.
NOTE: If the Start button is located on top of door, push door firmly closed within 4 seconds of selecting START. If the door is not closed within 4 seconds, the START button LED will flash, an audible tone will be heard (on some models), and the cycle will not start.
CANCEL DrainTo reset any cycle or options during selection. To cancel a wash cycle after it has started.Press CANCEL/Drain and close the door firmly. The dishwasher starts a drain sequence. Let dishwasher drain completely.
Salt IndicatorIf the consumer desires to use the water softener feature in the dishwasher, the salt indicator light will glow when it is time to add salt.Refer to the owner's manual for more details about how to use the water softener feature. If used, the salt indicator will glow when you need to add more salt.
DescaleIf limescale accumulation on the heater is detected, the [descale icon] will show. Salt may need to be added to the water softener reservoir and the water hardness level set. Use a dishwasher cleaning agent with Tough cycle to clean the dishwasher.Once completed, the icon will turn off. Finish® Dishwasher Cleaner Liquid is recommended for descaling the heater.
NOTE: In rare cases, you may need to descale the heater a second time. Simply repeat the Tough cycle with Finish® Dishwasher Cleaner Liquid.
