- ⚠️ Small parts may detach from the TD Navio unit, posing a choking hazard.
- ⚠️ The shoulder strap and charging cable can pose a choking hazard to small children. Never leave the shoulder strap or charging cable unattended with small children.
- ⚠️ The TD Navio unit must not be exposed to or used in rain or weather conditions outside its technical specifications.
- ⚠️ Small children or individuals with cognitive impairments must not access or use the TD Navio unit, with or without a shoulder strap or other accessories, without supervision from a parent or guardian.
- ⚠️ Use the TD Navio with caution when moving around.
2.1 Preventing Hearing Damage
Symbol: ? Permanent hearing loss can occur if headphones, headsets, or speakers are used at high volumes. To avoid this, set the volume to an appropriate level. Over time, you may become less sensitive to high sound levels, making them seem acceptable even though they can still damage your hearing. If you experience symptoms such as ringing in your ears, reduce the volume and stop using the headphones/headsets. The higher the volume, the shorter the time it takes for your hearing to be damaged.
Hearing specialists offer the following recommendations for hearing protection:
- Limit the duration of time you use headphones or headsets at high volume.
- Avoid turning up the volume to drown out ambient noise.
- Turn down the volume if you cannot hear people speaking nearby.
To find a suitable volume level:
- Set the volume to a low level.
- Slowly turn up the volume until you can hear it clearly and distinctly without distortion.
The TD Navio unit can produce sounds in decibel ranges that, even with exposure of less than a minute, can cause hearing loss in a person with normal hearing. The device's maximum sound level is comparable to that of a young, healthy person screaming. The TD Navio unit is used as an artificial voice and can similarly pose a risk of hearing damage. The high decibel ranges allow for communication in noisy environments and should be used with caution and only when necessary in such environments.
2.2 Power Supply and Batteries
The power source must comply with the SELV (Safety Extra Low Voltage) standard and supply power with a nominal voltage corresponding to the requirement for a limited power source according to IEC 62368-1.
The TD Navio unit contains a rechargeable battery. All rechargeable batteries degrade over time. Therefore, the usable time for the TD Navio after a full charge may become shorter over time than when the unit was new.
The TD Navio unit uses a li-ion polymer battery.
Be aware that warm environments can affect the battery's ability to charge. The internal battery temperature must be between 0-45 °C for the battery to charge. If the internal battery temperature rises above 45 °C, the battery will not charge.
If necessary, move the TD Navio unit to a cooler place to charge the battery correctly.
⚠️ Do not expose the TD Navio to fire or temperatures above 60 °C. This can cause the battery to malfunction, generate heat, ignite, or explode. Be aware that in the worst-case scenario, the temperature can exceed the above temperature limit – for example, in a car's trunk on a hot day. Storing the TD Navio unit in a hot car trunk can lead to malfunction.
⚠️ Do not connect devices that do not have a power supply intended for medical equipment to the TD Navio unit's ports. Furthermore, all configurations must comply with the IEC 60601-1 system standard. Anyone connecting additional equipment to signal inputs or outputs is configuring a medical system and is therefore responsible for ensuring that the system complies with the requirements of the IEC 60601-1 system standard. The device is only for connection to IEC 60601-1 certified equipment in a patient environment and to IEC 60601-1 certified equipment outside a patient environment. Contact our technical services department or your local representative if you are unsure.
The appliance coupler on the power cord or the detachable plug is used to disconnect the device from the mains. Therefore, the TD Navio unit should be placed so that the appliance coupler is easily accessible.
Only charge the TD Navio battery at an ambient temperature of 0-35 °C.
⚠️ Only use the supplied power adapter to charge the TD Navio unit. Using unapproved power adapters can severely damage the TD Navio unit.
To ensure the TD Navio unit is used safely, only use chargers and accessories approved by Tobii Dynavox.
⚠️ Batteries must only be replaced by Tobii Dynavox employees or specially designated persons. Replacing lithium batteries or fuel cells by inadequately trained personnel can lead to a dangerous situation.
⚠️ Do not open or modify the TD Navio unit's casing or power supply, as you risk exposure to potentially hazardous electrical voltage. The unit contains no user-serviceable parts. If the TD Navio unit or its accessories sustain mechanical damage, do not use the equipment.
If the battery is not charged, or the TD Navio is not connected to the power supply, the TD Navio unit will shut down.
⚠️ Disconnect the unit from the power source to prevent damage from transient overvoltage if the unit will not be used for an extended period.
⚠️ If the cord is damaged, it must only be replaced by a service technician. Avoid using the cord until it has been replaced.
Unplug the AC adapter from the wall outlet when the unit is not charging and remove the power cord from the unit.
⚠️ There are special regulations associated with the shipment of lithium-ion batteries. If these batteries are dropped, crushed, punctured, discarded, misused, or short-circuited, they can release dangerous amounts of heat, catch fire, and are also dangerous in case of fire.
Read the IATA regulations before shipping lithium metal or lithium-ion batteries or cells: http://www.iata.org/whatwedo/cargo/dgr/Pages/lithium-batteries.aspx
⚠️ The power adapter must not be used unsupervised by an adult or caregiver.
2.3 High Temperature
If the TD Navio unit is used in direct sunlight or other warm environments, its surfaces can become hot. The TD Navio units have built-in overheating protection mechanisms. If the temperature in the TD Navio unit exceeds the normal operating range, the TD Navio unit protects its internal components by attempting to regulate the temperature. If the TD Navio unit exceeds a certain temperature threshold, a warning screen about the temperature will be displayed.
To continue using the TD Navio unit as quickly as possible, turn it off, move it to a cooler location (away from direct sunlight), and let it cool down.
2.4 Emergencies
⚠️ Do not use the device for emergency calls or bank transactions. It is recommended to have multiple communication methods available in case of an emergency. Bank transactions should only be carried out with a system recommended by your bank and approved according to the bank's standards.
2.5 Electricity
⚠️ Do not open the TD Navio unit's casing, as you risk exposure to potentially hazardous electrical voltage. The unit contains no user-serviceable parts.
2.6 Child Safety
TD Navio units are advanced computer systems and electronic devices. They consist of many separate parts assembled together. If a child gets hold of the unit, including accessories, there is a risk that some individual parts may detach. These parts can pose a choking hazard or expose the child to other dangers.
⚠️ Small children must not access or use the unit without supervision from a parent or guardian.
2.7 Magnetic Field
? If you suspect that the TD Navio unit is interfering with your pacemaker or other medical equipment, stop using the TD Navio unit and consult your doctor for specific information about the affected medical equipment.
2.8 Third Party
Tobii Dynavox assumes no responsibility for consequences resulting from the TD Navio being used in a manner inconsistent with its intended use, including the use of the TD Navio with third-party software and/or hardware that alters its intended use.
