Vetus Bow and Stern Thruster Control Panel Operation

This document provides operating instructions for Vetus Bow and Stern Thruster Control Panels, including models BPAJ, BPAS, BPJR(C), and BPSR(C).

General Operation and Safety

CAUTION! If two control panels are installed, never operate the bow thruster from both panels simultaneously.

Switching on the panel: Press the on/off switch twice. The LED will flash blue and the buzzer will sound continuously (.......) after the first press. The on/off switch must be pressed a second time within 6 seconds. The LED will then remain blue, and the buzzer will confirm readiness with a signal (-.-).

Direction Switch: The electric motor is operated by the direction switch. A 1.5-second delay occurs when changing direction from port to starboard or vice versa, allowing the motor to stop before reversing. Operating the direction switch for over 2 minutes continuously will switch off the motor. A warning signal (...) will sound, and the LED will flash red for 5 seconds. The motor can be restarted once the switch is released and the LED is blue.

Switching off the panel: Press the on/off switch once after using the bow thruster. The panel will emit a signal (...-.-).

Automatic Switching Off: By default, the panel automatically switches off 30 minutes after the last operation of the direction switch. This feature can be disabled by pressing the on/off button again. It can also be re-enabled.

To switch 'Automatic Switching Off' on or off:

Switch off the power supply to the bow thruster (Battery main switch).
Operate the direction switch (or both) to starboard (right) and hold it.
Switch on the power supply to the bow thruster.
The LED(s) will light up briefly: RED indicates 'Automatic Switching Off' is now off; BLUE indicates it is now on.
Release the direction switch(es). The setting is saved and retained even when the power supply is switched off.

Important: Switch off the main switch when leaving the ship.

Protections

Thermal protection of the control current: If the control current circuit is overloaded, the panel will sound a warning once (.-..-) and the LED will flash red and blue alternately for approximately 7 seconds. Normal function will resume once the overload is resolved.
