Precautions and maintenance of your device
Handle the device, battery, charger, and accessories with care. The following tips help you keep your device functioning.
- Avoid getting the device wet. Rain, humidity, and all types of liquids or condensation contain corrosive mineral substances that can damage electronic circuits. If the device gets wet, remove the battery and let the device dry.
- Do not use or leave the device in particularly dusty or dirty environments.
- Do not leave the device in particularly hot environments. Excessively high temperatures can damage the device or battery.
- Do not expose the device to cold temperatures. When it returns to normal temperature, condensation may form inside, which can damage it.
- Do not open the device in any way other than as indicated in the user manual.
- Unauthorized modifications may damage the device and violate radio equipment regulations.
- Do not drop, hit, or shake the device or battery, as it may be damaged.
- Use only a soft, clean, and dry cloth to clean the device surface.
- Do not paint the device. Paint may prevent it from functioning correctly.
- To optimize performance, switch off the device and remove the battery from time to time.
- Keep the device away from magnets or magnetic fields.
- To keep important data safe, store it in at least two different locations, such as the device, memory card, or computer, or write down valuable information.
Recycling
Always dispose of used electronic products, used batteries, and packaging materials at dedicated collection points. By contributing to waste sorting, you combat indiscriminate waste disposal and promote the reuse of renewable resources. Electrical and electronic products contain a certain amount of precious materials, including metals (such as copper, aluminum, steel, and magnesium) and precious metals (such as gold, silver, and palladium). All device materials can be recovered as materials and energy. For information on how to recycle products, visit www.microsoft.com/mobile/recycle.
Crossed-out mobile container
The presence of a crossed-out mobile container on the product, battery, documentation, or packaging indicates that all electrical and electronic products, as well as batteries, are subject to separate collection at the end of their life. Do not dispose of these products in unsorted municipal waste: take them to a recycling center. For information on the nearest recycling center, contact your local authorities or visit www.microsoft.com/mobile/support/. For more information on the environmental characteristics of the device in use, visit www.microsoft.com/mobile/ecoprofile.
Battery and charger
Use the device only with an original rechargeable BL-5C battery.
Charge the device with the AC-18 charger. The plug type of the charger may vary.
Microsoft Mobile may make other battery or charger models available for this device.
Battery and charger safety
Always switch off the device and disconnect the charger before removing the battery. To disconnect a charger or accessory cable, grasp and pull the plug, not the cable.
When the charger is not in use, unplug it. Even a fully charged battery discharges over time if not used.
To optimize performance, always keep the battery at a temperature between 15°C and 25°C. Extreme temperatures reduce battery capacity and life. A device with a very hot or very cold battery may not function temporarily.
This can accidentally happen when a metal object touches the battery's metal strips. It may damage the battery or the other object.
Do not throw batteries into a fire, as they may explode. Observe local regulations. Recycle them whenever possible. Do not dispose of batteries in household waste.
Do not disassemble, cut, crush, bend, puncture, or otherwise damage the battery. If liquid leaks from the battery, avoid contact with skin or eyes. If contact occurs, rinse the affected area immediately with plenty of water or consult a doctor. Do not modify, or attempt to insert foreign objects into the battery, and do not immerse it or expose it to water or other liquids. Batteries may explode if damaged.
Small children
The device and its accessories are not toys. They may contain small parts. Keep the device and its accessories out of the reach of children!
Medical equipment
The use of transmitting equipment, including wireless phones, may cause interference with medical equipment that is not adequately shielded. Consult a doctor or the medical equipment manufacturer to determine if it is adequately shielded from external radio signals.
Implanted medical equipment
To avoid potential interference, manufacturers of implanted medical equipment recommend maintaining a minimum distance of 15.3 centimeters between a wireless device and the medical equipment. Wearers of such equipment should:
- Always keep the wireless device more than 15.3 centimeters away from the medical equipment.
- Do not keep the wireless device in a pocket.
- Hold the wireless device to the ear opposite the medical equipment.
- Switch off the wireless device if there is suspected interference.
- Follow the instructions of the manufacturer of the implanted medical equipment.
If you have doubts about using the wireless device with implanted medical equipment, consult your doctor.
Hearing aids
Warning: When using the headset, it may be difficult to hear external sounds. Do not use the headset if it may compromise your safety.
Some digital wireless devices may interfere with some hearing aids.
Protect the device from harmful content
The device may be exposed to viruses and other harmful content. Take the following precautions:
- Be careful when opening messages. Messages may contain dangerous software or be otherwise harmful to your device or computer.
- Be careful when accepting connection requests, browsing the Internet, or downloading content. Do not accept Bluetooth connections from untrusted sources.
- Install and use only services and software from trusted sources that offer an adequate level of security and protection.
- Install antivirus software and other protection software on your device and all computers connected to it. Use only one antivirus application at a time. Using multiple applications may affect the performance and operation of the device and/or computer.
- If you access pre-installed bookmarks or links to third-party websites, take appropriate precautions. Microsoft Mobile does not endorse or assume any responsibility for such sites.
Vehicles
Radio frequency signals can adversely affect improperly installed or inadequately shielded electronic systems in vehicles. For more information, contact the manufacturer of your vehicle or its equipment.
