Usage and Safety Precautions
Field of Application: Personal protective equipment (PPE) for fall protection in mountaineering, climbing, and similar vertical sports. Not to be used for hoisting.
Inspection:
- Periodic Inspection: Recommended at least every 12 months by a competent person. Record results on a PPE inspection form.
- Pre-use Check: Inspect webbing and stitching for cuts, wear, damage from heat or chemicals, cut or loose threads.
- During Use: Regularly monitor the product's condition and its connections to other system components.
Compatibility: Ensure compatibility with other system elements. Equipment used must meet current national standards (e.g., EN 12275, EN 362 connectors).
EN 566 Usage Precautions:
- Results are from laboratory testing on new products.
- Warning: Do not fall on a sling.
- Wet or frozen slings are more difficult to handle.
EN 795 Type B Standard Information: When used in a fall arrest system, the user must have a means to limit impact force to 6 kN. The structure must withstand 12 kN.
Additional Information:
- Melting point of high-modulus polyethylene (140° C) is lower than nylon/polyester.
- Have a rescue plan and means to implement it.
- Anchor point should preferably be above the user and meet EN 795 (12 kN minimum strength).
- Check required clearance below the user before each use to avoid hitting obstacles.
- Ensure anchor point is correctly positioned to limit fall risk and length.
- A fall arrest harness is the only allowable body support in a fall arrest system.
- Be aware of potential dangers when using multiple equipment items.
- Avoid rubbing against abrasive or sharp surfaces.
- Users must be medically fit for activities at height.
- Follow instructions for all associated equipment.
- Ensure product markings are legible.
