Paxton Entry System: Planning and Installation
Product Model: APN-1127-ZA
Overview
The Paxton Entry system is designed for straightforward installation, utilizing a single network cable to connect all Entry units. The system comprises one or more entry panels, each linked to a control unit, and supports multiple internal video monitors as needed for occupants.
A simple network infrastructure, using Paxton or third-party PoE (Power over Ethernet) network switches, can distribute both power and data efficiently for the desired system layout.
The Entry configuration utility allows for remote viewing and editing of settings across all Entry system devices, enabling individual device or group updates.
For optimal user experience and product longevity, ensure your system uses the latest version of the Entry configuration utility. Download it from: www.paxton.info/1907.
Minimum Software Versions Required:
- Paxton10 – v3.2 or higher
- Net2 – v4.27 or higher
- Entry – v2.20 or higher
System Capacity
How many monitors and panels can I run?
The Entry system can support up to 100 panels and 1000 monitors.
Panel Positioning
To achieve the best possible image quality, position the panel to avoid backgrounds significantly brighter than the subject. High contrast can cause silhouetting due to under-exposure. If unavoidable, local lighting can help balance exposure.
It is recommended to install the panel out of direct sunlight to prevent overheating, which can exceed its specified operating temperature. If direct sunlight exposure cannot be avoided, a rain hood is advised.
System Configurations
One Door / One Monitor
The Entry system can be installed as a standalone setup with one control unit, one Entry panel, and one monitor. The Entry control unit provides PoE (Power over Ethernet) to these units via the network connection.
Adding Entry to a Net2 System
The Entry system integrates seamlessly into a Net2 Access control system by adding panels and monitors to the existing Net2 network. Entry units require PoE power from an Entry control unit or a third-party PoE switch. The Net2 system must be running v4.25 software or later.
After network connection, each panel will prompt for the serial number of its associated ACU (Access Control Unit), which must reside on the same TCP/IP network. Multiple panels can operate on the same network, each requiring its own ACU for association.
Monitors connected to the network will communicate with the panel(s). Each monitor requires a unique local ID for proper identification and selection from a panel.
This configuration is straightforward to install. Key network considerations to discuss with the IT manager include:
- Network compatibility with IPv4 & IPv6 standards.
- Support for PoE network power.
- Sufficient bandwidth for additional traffic.
- IT department permission for network integration.
Adding Entry to a Paxton10 System
The Entry system can be fully integrated into a Paxton10 system by adding panels and monitors to the existing Paxton10 network. Entry units require PoE power from a third-party PoE switch. The Paxton10 system must be running v3.2 software or later.
The Entry panel must be on the same TCP/IP network as the Paxton10 system. Multiple panels can operate on the same network and require their own door controller. Entry panels need to be bound to the Paxton10 system and configured within the Paxton10 software. For detailed information, refer to AN0045 at www.paxton.info/4931.
Monitors connected to the network will communicate with the panel(s). Each monitor requires a local ID to be assigned so it can be correctly called from a panel.
This configuration is straightforward to install. Key network considerations to discuss with the IT manager include:
- Network compatibility with IPv4 & IPv6 standards.
- Support for PoE network power.
- Sufficient bandwidth for additional traffic.
- IT department permission for network integration.
One Door / Multiple Monitors
The Entry control unit features four PoE ports and one standard network port. The PoE ports can power panels or monitors, while all five network ports facilitate data transfer and network expansion.
The system can be configured to allow a single call to reach multiple monitors in the same location by assigning them the same monitor ID.
An Entry extension switch, equipped with five ports, can be used to expand the network. Third-party PoE and standard switches can also be integrated for power and data distribution.
Multiple Doors / Multiple Monitors
Very large systems can be configured using multiple panels and monitors. Each panel must be associated with its own ACU located on the same network.
All monitors on a single network can be called by any panel. It is crucial to assign each monitor a clear ID or Name that specifies its location, enabling visitors to easily call the correct monitor.
