TREND IQ4NC Controllers
This technical data sheet provides comprehensive information on the TREND IQ4NC controllers, designed for building automation and management systems.
Description
The IQ4NC extends the TREND network across various media, including Ethernet, Trend current loop, and MS/TP. It features 4 virtual CNCs that allow supervisors or network tools to connect to the Trend system. Specific models include IQ4NC/00 (no I/O), IQ4NC/12 (12 I/O), IQ4NC/16/..., and IQ4NC/32/... (16 I/O), with the latter two expandable to 32 I/O using external modules.
Key Features
- TREND system interface with MS/TP bus (e.g., IQecos).
- BACnet over MS/TP support.
- Extends the TREND network from Ethernet to the Trend current loop.
- BACnet over IP support.
- Easy communication mode configuration via IQ web pages.
- Optional interfacing with Modbus serial/IP and M-Bus devices.
- INC alarm forwarding for transmitting alarms to IP addresses or email.
Physical Characteristics
The IQ4NC controllers are designed for integration into building management systems. For detailed physical dimensions and other specifications, refer to the IQ422 controller data sheet (TA201260) or the IQ4E controller data sheet (TA210340).
MS/TP Indicators:
- TX: Yellow LED indicating MS/TP data transmission status.
- RX: Yellow LED indicating MS/TP data reception status.
MS/TP Termination Switch: Used to enable or disable the 120-ohm termination resistance on the MS/TP bus.
RS485 Bias Switch: (IQ4NC/16/..., IQ4NC/32/... only) Determines if bias is applied. For IQ4NC/00/... and IQ4NC/12/..., bias is permanently applied and cannot be disabled. A maximum of two devices should provide bias on the bus.
Network Modes
The IQ4NC supports four primary network modes:
- Ethernet to MS/TP (default): Acts as an interface between an Ethernet network and an MS/TP network.
- Trend Internetwork to MS/TP: Interfaces between a Trend current loop internetwork and an MS/TP network.
- Ethernet to Trend LAN: Interfaces between an Ethernet internetwork and a Trend current loop local network.
- Trend Internetwork to Ethernet: Interfaces between a Trend current loop internetwork and an Ethernet internetwork.
A manual configuration mode is also available for non-standard communication setups.
Network Structure: The IQ4NC creates its own internal local network, including a CNC for its controller, supervisor CNCs for RS232 and USB ports, and virtual CNCs (vCNC1-vCNC8). It also includes a virtual INC (vINC) for internetwork communication.
Functionality
The IQ4NC controllers offer robust functionality for building automation:
- System: Features Ethernet, MS/TP (RS485), USB, RS232, and Trend current loop communication ports. Some models include a Wallbus port.
- Network Alarms: Transmits LAN alarms to a specified alarm group. In Ethernet to Trend internetwork mode, virtual local networks may not produce identifiable alarms.
- INC Alarm Forwarding: Allows the IQ4NC to forward alarms from TREND IQ controllers to a remote Trend supervisor's IP address or an email address. This is particularly useful for controllers without direct internet access or specific IP/email destinations.
- MS/TP Bus: Operates as a master on the MS/TP line, supporting speeds from 9.6 to 76.8 kbits/s. Proper cabling and termination are crucial for performance. The bus supports up to 32 units and requires proper grounding of shields.
Material and Compatibility
The IQ4NC series utilizes hardware similar to the IQ422 and IQ4E controllers. Compatibility with existing Trend systems is maintained. For general compatibility, refer to the respective data sheets.
Software Utility: IQ SET version 7.06 or higher is required for configuring IQ4NC-specific parameters.
Maintenance and Disposal
- Maintenance: The IQ4NC controller requires no preventive maintenance. Do not attempt to open the unit.
- Disposal: Follow WEEE Directive guidelines for proper disposal of electronic waste. Recycle plastic and metal components. Printed circuit boards can be sent to PCB recovery centers.
Installation
Installation of the IQ4NC follows similar procedures to the IQ422 and IQ4E controllers, with additional steps for MS/TP interface and communication mode configuration. Refer to specific installation guides for detailed instructions.
Order Codes and Specifications
Various order codes are available for different configurations of the IQ4NC, specifying I/O count, power supply (230 VAC or 24 VAC), and optional features like INT or XNC functionality.
Electrical Specifications: Input voltage ranges from 24 VAC to 230 VAC, with power consumption varying by model.
Environmental Specifications: Includes safety certifications such as CB reports.
MS/TP Bus Specifications: Details on bus distance, load, signaling, and termination are provided, adhering to EIA-485 standards.
Connectors: Includes RS485 connectors and status LEDs (TX, RX).
