Safety Instructions

This appliance is designed for household and similar applications, such as staff kitchens in shops, offices, commercial areas, farms, motels, hotels, residential facilities, and bed & breakfasts. Any other use is considered improper and may lead to personal injury and material damage. Melitta® is not liable for damage resulting from improper use.

To avoid injuries due to improper use:

• Do not operate the appliance in a cabinet.
• Connect only to a properly installed, earthed socket.
• Always disconnect from the mains supply when not in use, before assembly, disassembly, or cleaning.
• Before use, ensure the grinding chamber is free of foreign objects.
• Do not remove the lid until the grinding blades have completely stopped.
• Never place fingers or hands near the grinding blades during operation.
• Keep the mains lead away from hot surfaces.
• Do not use if the mains lead is damaged.
• Do not operate without coffee beans.
• Never immerse the appliance in water.
• Do not use abrasive cleaning agents or scouring milk on parts that contact food.
• Do not clean parts in the dishwasher.
• Use the included brush (⑦) to clean the grinding blades. Do not use soap or water. Caution: Do not touch the blades. Risk of injury.
• The appliance may be used by persons with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or lack of experience, if supervised or instructed in safe use and aware of the risks.
• Keep children away from the appliance.
• Mains lead replacement and repairs must only be carried out by Melitta® Customer Service or an authorized workshop.
• Children must not use the appliance. Keep the appliance and its mains lead out of reach of children.

Before First Use

• Remove all packaging material.
• Clean the housing, grinding chamber, and lid before initial use (traces of coffee powder may be present from testing).
• Replace the lid. The grinder will only start with the lid in place.
• The grinder is exclusively for grinding coffee beans. Ensure no other objects or food are in the appliance.
• Verify your home's power supply matches the appliance's type plate.
• Connect to the mains supply. Use the cable winding facility for excess cable.

Operating the Coffee Grinder

Ensure the appliance is connected to a power source.

1. Remove the lid (①).
2. Fill the grinding chamber with the desired quantity of coffee beans (max. 60g) (②).
3. Alternatively, use the lid as a filling aid: pour beans into the lid and transfer to the chamber (③).
4. Replace the lid, ensuring it is properly closed (④).
5. Hold the appliance firmly with one hand and press the grinding button on the lid with the other (⑤). Release when the desired grind fineness is reached (check through the transparent lid).
6. Do not remove the lid before the grinding blades have completely stopped. Risk of injury!

Note: This appliance is designed for a maximum of 30 seconds of continuous use. Experiment with grinding times to find your preferred fineness.

• Unplug the appliance.
• Remove the lid; your freshly ground coffee is ready (⑥).
• Wait at least 3 minutes between uses. After three consecutive uses, allow the appliance to cool to room temperature to prevent overheating.

Tips for Optimal Use

• Store coffee beans in an airtight container for optimal flavour.
• Grind only the quantity of beans required for brewing, as flavour and aroma change with storage and exposure to air or other foods.
• Clean the grinder after each use (see Section 5 "Cleaning").
• If the appliance does not switch on after use, a thermal fuse may have tripped. Unplug and let it cool for 5 minutes.
• The required amount of ground coffee depends on bean type, grind fineness, and number of cups. Coffee taste and strength are personal preferences. Experiment to find what works best for you. We recommend using 6g of coffee powder with a medium grind setting.

Cleaning the Coffee Grinder

ATTENTION: Always unplug the mains plug before cleaning.

• Clean the lid in warm water and let it dry completely.
• Clean the grinding blades with the included brush (⑦).
• Clean the grinding chamber with a damp cloth and let it dry. Do not touch the sharp grinding blades. Risk of injury.
• Wipe the housing with a slightly damp cloth and then wipe dry.
• Note: Never immerse the housing, mains lead, plug, or grinding blades in water or other liquids. Never clean the grinder or its removable parts in the dishwasher.

Notes on Disposal

• Appliances marked with this symbol (WEEE symbol) are subject to European guidelines for Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment.
• Do not dispose of electric appliances with household waste. Dispose of the appliance environmentally through suitable collection systems.
• Packaging materials are raw materials and can be recycled. Please recycle them.

Preparation Tips

Tastes differ. Adjust grinding time to your needs. The longer you grind, the finer the result. The following times are guide values determined with commercially available coffee beans (medium roast for French Press/Filter Coffee, dark roast for Espresso). Note that results may vary by bean type even with the same grinding time.
