Using the Coffee Grinder
- Ensure the appliance is connected to power.
- Remove the hopper lid (1).
- Fill the grinding chamber with coffee beans (max. 200g). Only use coffee beans in the hopper (2). ATTENTION: Unsuitable coffee types (freeze-dried, caramelized) can clog the grinder. Do not use ground coffee.
- Replace the hopper lid (3).
- Use the grind setting dial (F) to adjust coarseness (1 = finest, 17 = coarsest). The dial should be readjusted during grinding.
- Use the cup setting dial (C) to select the number of cups (2-14 cups).
- Press the ON/OFF button (D) to start grinding (6). Ground coffee collects in the container (J). NOTE: Avoid overfilling the container to prevent blockages.
- The grinder stops automatically when the selected amount is ground.
- If a high-pitched noise occurs, beans may be stuck. Turn off the appliance, unplug it (7), and clean the grinder as per section 5.
- Remove the ground coffee container (J) when grinding is finished (8). Tap gently to reduce static. Remove the container lid.
- Your freshly ground coffee is now ready.
Tips for Best Use
- Store coffee beans in an airtight container for optimal flavour.
- Grind only the required amount of beans just before brewing, as ground coffee loses flavour and aroma quickly when exposed to air.
- Clean the grinder after each use (see section 5).
- If the appliance does not switch on after use, it may be due to a thermal fuse. Unplug and let it cool for 5 minutes.
- The required amount of ground coffee depends on bean type, grind setting, and cup size. Experiment to find your personal preference. Melitta recommends 6-8g of coffee for a medium grind.
- If espresso brews too fast in your machine, lower the grind setting.
Recommended Grind Settings:
Coffee Preparation | Grind Setting |
---|---|
Espresso | 1-3 |
Filter Coffee | 2-13 |
French Press | 12-17 |
Cleaning the Coffee Grinder
ATTENTION: Disconnect the power plug before cleaning (7).
- Remove the ground coffee container with lid (8) and the hopper lid (1).
- Wash the container, its lid, and the hopper lid in warm water, rinse, and dry completely.
- Clean the housing with a soft, damp cloth.
- Clean the grinder mechanism with the provided brush (9).
- Remove any remaining beans from the bean container. Turn the grind setting dial (F) to 1. Place fingers along the ridges at the top of the removable grinding wheel (B). Turn the wheel clockwise until it stops. Lift it out of the grinding chamber and clean the grinding disc with the brush (10, 11).
- After cleaning, replace the grinding wheel. Turn it counter-clockwise until "17" appears on the grind setting dial (F).
- NOTE: Never immerse the grinder base, cord, plug, or grinding wheel in water or other liquids. Never put the appliance or removable parts in the dishwasher.
