Important Cautions
CAUTION: RISK OF INJURY! Use care with hobby knives, tapered reamers, and other cutting tools as they are extremely sharp and can cause severe injury, deep cuts, and/or punctures.
CAUTION: RISK OF DAMAGE TO ELECTRONICS! To prevent damage to the electronic speed control (ESC) and/or the high-voltage power amplifier, ensure the battery is disconnected before plugging the amplifier into the ESC.
Body Modification
Before installing the new roof skid plate and front body bumper, the vehicle body requires modification.
Step 1: Disassembly
Remove the left and right roof skid pads (A) (discard or save for future use), the left and right rear body reinforcements, and the body cage from the vehicle body. Retain and reuse all hardware. Refer to the Body Exploded View for disassembly/assembly guidance.
Step 2: Template Application and Cutting (Roof)
Peel the adhesive backing from Template 1. Place the template on the roof of the body, aligning the small template holes with the corresponding screw holes in the roof (refer to diagram 2A). Using a tapered body reamer, carefully cut holes in the roof to the dotted lines on the template. Note the hole diameters indicated on the template and the corresponding diameter measurements on the body reamer. Use body scissors to cut out the section between the four holes, along the dotted lines as indicated.
Step 3: Template Application and Cutting (Front Body)
Peel the adhesive backing from Template 2. Place the template on the front of the body as shown, using the body lines for alignment (refer to diagram 2B). Using a tapered body reamer, carefully cut holes in the body to the dotted lines on the template.
Step 4: Template Application and Cutting (Rear Body)
Peel the adhesive backing from Template 3. Place the template on the body (refer to diagram 2C), aligning the bottom of the template with the holes in the body cut using Template 2 from the previous step. Using a tapered body reamer, carefully cut holes in the body to the dotted lines on the template. Use body scissors to cut out the section between the six holes, along the dotted lines as indicated.
Installation Steps
Step 5: Front Bumper and Light Bar Installation
Feed the wire harness connector from the body bumper light bar through the larger cut hole in the body, and then through the hole in the bumper mount. Install the bumper and bumper mount onto the body using the included 3x10mm cap screws (4) (refer to diagram 3 and 4).
Step 6: Roof Skid Plate Installation
Install the new roof skid plate onto the body along with the original rear body reinforcements and body cage. Insert the wire harness connectors through the hole in the roof (refer to diagram 3).
Step 7: Body Cleaning and Foam Block Attachment
Clean any dirt and grime from the body surface (refer to diagram 5A). Use isopropyl rubbing alcohol to remove any oily residue, wax, or grease. This will improve the bond between the adhesive foam block and the body. Peel the adhesive backing from the included foam block and attach it to the body as shown (refer to diagrams 5B, 5C).
Step 8: High-Voltage Power Amplifier Installation
Turn the body over (viewing the underside) and fasten the high-voltage power amplifier (Part #6590) to the body cage using the included 3x15mm cap screws (2) (refer to diagram 6). Position the amplifier so that the 4 lighting connection ports point to the front of the body. Plug the 4 LED harness connectors into the power amplifier, matching the colors on the wires with the corresponding colors on the amplifier ports (white for front bumper, yellow for front roof, red for rear tail lights, blue for rear reverse lights).
Step 9: Chassis Brace (T-Bar) Removal
Remove the chassis brace (T-Bar) from the chassis by removing the 3x16mm shoulder screws (2) and lifting up on the bar as shown (refer to diagram 7).
Step 10: ESC Cooling Fan Cover Removal
Remove the 3x25mm button-head screws (2) from the electronic speed control (ESC) to remove the cooling fan cover. Remove the accessory port cover (discard or save for future use) (refer to diagram 8).
Step 11: Breakaway Cable Adapter Installation (ESC)
Feed the connector from the breakaway cable adapter through the accessory port opening on the ESC cooling fan cover. Plug the connector into the accessory port on the ESC; note the orientation of the connector. Reinstall the cooling fan cover on the ESC using the 3x25mm button-head screws. Be careful not to pinch the ESC wires during reinstallation (refer to diagrams 9A and 9B).
Step 12: Breakaway Cable Adapter Installation (Chassis)
Install the breakaway cable adapter onto the T-Bar and slide it near the Traxxas logo. Then, reinstall the T-Bar on the chassis using the removed screws. Note: The location of the breakaway cable adapter on the T-Bar can be adjusted as you plug the adapter into the accessory port on the ESC (refer to diagram 10).
Step 13: Wiring Securing
Use an included zip tie to secure the wiring from the breakaway cable adapter to the zip tie mount on the adapter (refer to diagram 11).
Step 14: Final Connection
Plug the cable from the high-voltage power amplifier on the body into the breakaway cable adapter on the chassis brace (T-Bar). Refer to the Body Wiring and Chassis Wiring Diagrams on the following page.
