Front Sway Bar Installation
- Locate the front sway bar, front sway bar mount, two 3x23mm button-head cap screws, two 3x4mm set screws, and two front (long) linkages.
- Begin by loosening the 3x15 button-head cap screw securing the brake linkage to the brake arm. Remove the linkage from the arm and reroute the throttle servo lead to pass over the transmission case (Diagram A). Remove the stock wire clip from the front shock mount (Diagram B). Note: The throttle servo lead should be routed over the top of the transmission case to avoid contact with the brake disc.
- Insert the sway bar into the sway bar mount and press the mount onto the shock mount as shown (Diagram C). Secure the mount using the supplied 3x8mm button-head cap screw.
- Remove the two 3x15mm button-head cap screws connecting the front shocks to the rockers; do not remove the shocks. Locate the front sway bar links. Insert the included 3x23mm button-head cap screws into the hollow ball end of each link and thread them into the rockers, securing the shocks (Diagram D).
- Locate two 3x4mm set screws and insert them into the sway bar mount holes to contact the sway bar. Tighten the screws until they contact the sway bar, but do not overtighten. These reduce play in the sway bar assembly. The sway bar should rotate freely with no vertical play (Diagram E).
- Slide the adjustable hollow ball from the links over the sway bar so the tip of the sway bar is flush with the top of the adjustable hollow ball, and tighten the set screw (Diagram F).
- Reconnect the brake linkage to the brake arm and secure it with the 3x15 button-head cap screw. Front sway bar installation is complete (Diagram G).
Rear Sway Bar Installation
- Locate the rear sway bar, two 6x10mm washers, two 3x4mm set screws, rear linkages, drill guide, and 2.5mm drill bit.
- Start by removing the tuned pipe and header assembly from the engine and rear body mount to access the rear rockers (Diagram H).
- Remove the two 3x15mm screws and one 4x6mm button-head cap screw from each rear rocker arm, and remove each rocker arm from its posts (Diagram I).
- Remove the rear rocker posts from the rear bulkhead assembly using an 8mm nut driver (Diagram J).
- Install one 6x10x2mm washer onto each rocker post (threaded end) (Diagram K), and then reinstall the posts back onto the rear bulkhead (Diagram L).
Drilling the Lower Rear Rocker Arm Halves
It is important that the lower rocker arm halves are properly drilled. Do not drill the top rocker halves. The included drill guide is compatible with Traxxas P1, P2, and P3 progressive rockers. Line up the letters on the drill guide with the letters on each lower rocker half to determine the drilling location (indicated by the arrow next to the letters). The drill hole should be located toward the shock end of the rocker halve. See image (image shows P2 rocker).
- Separate the rocker arm top halves from the bottom halves. Secure the drill guide onto the inside of the lower rocker half using two 3x15mm button-head cap screws, and drill a hole through the indicated hole using the included 2.5mm drill bit (Diagram M). Repeat this process for the other lower rocker half.
- With the holes drilled, install the ball stud of each link onto the outside (underside) of each lower rocker half using a 2.5mm hex wrench (Diagram N).
Completing Rear Sway Bar Installation
- Connect the top rocker halves with the appropriate lower halves and reinstall them onto the rocker posts. Secure them with the same 3x15mm and 4x6mm button-head cap screws (Diagram O).
- Locate the lower two 3x20mm button-head cap screws on the rear bumper of the truck. Loosen these screws until they release from the chassis, but do not remove them (Diagram P).
- Pull the lower bumper section away from the chassis, and then insert the rear sway bar into the molded sway bar groove of the bumper. The blue sway bar sleeve should be centered into the groove (Diagram Q). Tighten the bumper back onto the chassis. Note: Ensure the rear toe links are secured by the screws.
- Locate two 3x4mm set screws and insert them into the rear sway bar mount holes to contact the sway bar (same as the front sway bar) (Diagram R). Thread the screws in until they contact the sway bar sleeve. The sway bar should pivot freely.
- Attach the adjustable hollow balls from the links onto the rear sway bar and tighten the set screws in the desired position. Adjustment Note: Each link must clear both the chassis and the rocker arms through the entire range of the suspension stroke (Diagram S).
- Reinstall the tuned pipe and header assembly, and adjust the sway bars for overall smooth operation. Rear sway bar installation is complete (Diagram T).
Settings and Adjustment Notes
- Adjust the front sway bar links so the sway bars are almost vertical while the truck is on the ground and the suspension is at rest (normal ride height). This allows equal sway bar travel in both loaded and unloaded suspension conditions. Always adjust the left and right sway bar links equally to prevent suspension tweak. ⚖️
- The adjustable hollow balls can be raised or lowered closer to or further from the sway bar mount (pivot point). Closer to the pivot point results in a stiffer setting and further from the pivot point results in a softer setting.
For smooth surfaces with high traction:
- Stiffer response settings ⬆️
For rough surfaces with low traction:
- Softer response settings ⬇️
To reduce understeer (pushing in corners):
- Soften front setting ⬇️
- Stiffen rear setting ⬆️
To reduce oversteer (loose in corners):
- Stiffen front setting ⬆️
- Soften rear setting ⬇️
