Danfoss Pressure Switch KP 17B, KP 17W, and KP 17WB
Installation Guide
Product Overview
This document provides installation instructions for the Danfoss KP 17B, KP 17W, and KP 17WB pressure switches. These switches are designed for use with refrigerants such as R1234yf, R455A, and R454C.
Operating Conditions:
- Minimum temperature: -25 °C
- Maximum temperature: 65 °C
Pressure Ranges:
Range | PS / MWP |
LP: -0.2 – 7.5 bar | 17 bar / 245 psig |
HP: 8 – 32 bar | 32 bar / 464 psig |
The switches feature connections for SAE flare fittings, with a diameter of 12 mm (15/32 in) for 1/4 in SAE flare.
Enclosure Ratings:
- Standard: Enclosure IP30 (EN 60529)
- Optional: Enclosure IP44 (EN 60529)
Mounting Considerations:
- Ensure a minimum clearance of 3 mm (1/8 in) from surrounding surfaces.
- Connections are made using M4 (8-32 UNC) screws.
Safety Requirements and Precautions
General Safety:
CAUTION: Disconnect power supply before making wiring connections or performing service to avoid electrical shock or equipment damage. Never touch live parts with fingers or tools.
- Do not exceed the specified contact load of 0.5 A.
- Use copper wire only.
- Tightening torque for connections is 20 lb. in. (2.3 Nm).
Installation Safety:
- KP pressure switches must be used in systems complying with relevant standards for charge limits and ignition sources (e.g., IEC 60335-2-24, IEC 60335-2-40, IEC 60335-2-89, ISO 5149, EN378-1).
- Prevent overload on the KP switches. If damaged, stop the system/unit and replace the KP switch.
- Locate the KP switch in an area where refrigerant cannot stagnate in case of leakage.
- Implement electrostatic discharge protection and electrical leakage protection through grounding or other measures.
- Only trained personnel authorized for flammable refrigerant systems should perform installations, maintenance, and exchanges using appropriate tools.
- Regularly check the function of the KP switch.
- KP pressure switches should be installed as built-in devices, inaccessible from the outside, and protected against mechanical impact.
- Install KPs in a water-free environment. Consider protection against corrosion in corrosive environments.
- Ensure cables are not in contact with sharp edges and are connected with adequate stress relief to prevent pulling forces on the terminals.
- In systems with pressure pulsation, ensure pulsations are damped to prevent bellows failure. Keep the cycle frequency of the KP switch as low as possible.
- Do not install KP switches in locations with high levels of vibration.
Electrical Connections
Contact Rating (max.): AC-15: 0.5A, 280 V
Wiring Diagrams:
- LP+HP Signal: Shows a circuit with a 0.5 A contact rating, maximum 50 VA, and maximum 0.2 A for the HP signal.
- SPDT+LP Signal: Depicts a single-pole double-throw (SPDT) switch with an LP signal, also rated for 0.5 A.
Differential Adjustments:
- LP (Low Pressure): Cut-in and Cut-out points can be adjusted. The differential is fixed at -1 bar (30 in Hg). The adjustment range is indicated by a 360° rotation, corresponding to 0.7 bar / 10 psi.
- HP (High Pressure): Cut-in and Cut-out points can be adjusted. The differential is fixed. The adjustment range is indicated by a 360° rotation, corresponding to 2.3 bar / 33.5 psi.
- LP Differential: The differential for the LP setting is adjustable, indicated by a 360° rotation, corresponding to 0.15 bar / 2 psi.
Adjustments are made using a screwdriver, with specific rotational markings indicating pressure changes. The required tool size for adjustment is 6 mm (15/64 in).
