Tasco 1025CTT Instruction Manual
This manual provides instructions for the Tasco 1025CTT Binocular, a versatile device combining high-quality optics with electronic features for outdoor activities.
Product Overview
The Tasco 1025CTT Binocular is a unique and useful combination of optics and electronics. It offers 10x magnification and is capable of displaying compass heading, ambient temperature, and the current time. Designed for outdoor enthusiasts, it aims to enhance your experience by providing accurate, integrated readings.
Controls and Display Modes
Two buttons are located below the display screen: MODE and ENT (Enter).
- Turning On: Press either the MODE or ENT button to activate the display.
- Automatic Shut-off: There is no manual "Off" switch. The display turns off automatically if no button is pressed for approximately 3 minutes.
- Cycling Through Modes: With the display on, briefly press and release the MODE button to cycle through the three different display modes: Compass, Temperature, and Time.
Compass Mode
This mode displays your heading, showing the direction the binocular is pointing. It provides a directional bearing (e.g., S, NW) and degrees (e.g., 182°), along with a small arrow indicating magnetic north.
Fig. 1 illustrates the Compass Mode display.Compass Calibration
The compass may not be accurate initially. To calibrate it:
- Go outside and stand at least 10 feet (approximately 3 meters) away from buildings and large metal structures.
- Press and hold the MODE button until a blinking "CAL" appears on the display.
- Press and release the ENT button.
- Hold the binocular horizontally in front of you, as level as possible.
- Rotate the binocular twice in a clockwise direction.
- When the binocular points to your starting direction at the end of the second rotation, press the ENT button again.
- The compass display will reactivate, indicating the compass is now calibrated.
When to Recalibrate: Repeat this procedure when the battery is replaced, or if a small letter "W" (warning) appears and remains on the display. This "W" indicates inaccurate readings due to electrical or magnetic interference, which can occur indoors. Recalibration does not harm the unit and should be performed before an outdoor trip.
Fig. 2 shows the display during the calibration process, typically showing "CAL".Thermometer Mode
Access this mode by briefly pressing MODE again from the Compass Mode display. It shows the current ambient temperature in degrees.
Accuracy Tip: To ensure accurate readings, avoid touching the electronic components area of the binocular with your bare hands.
Temperature Unit Conversion (Fahrenheit/Celsius):
- Press and hold the MODE button until "CAL" appears.
- Press MODE three more times. The display will show "Time set-Hr", then "Time set-Min", and finally "F" or "C" for temperature mode setting.
- Press the ENT button to set your preferred temperature units (Fahrenheit or Celsius).
Time Mode (Clock)
Access this mode by briefly pressing MODE again from the Thermometer Mode display. It shows the current time, with "TM" displayed at the top.
Setting the Time:
- Press and hold the MODE button until "CAL" appears.
- Press MODE again. The hour portion of the time display will blink.
- Use the ENT button to set the hour. A blinking "P" indicates PM (afternoon).
- Press MODE to switch to the minutes part of the time display; they will blink.
- Use the ENT button to set the minutes.
- When finished, press MODE again.
Getting Ready for Outdoor Use
Once you have calibrated the compass, set the current time, and selected your preferred temperature units (F or C), your binocular is ready for your outdoor excursion. Simply press the MODE button at any time to wake the display, and press it again to cycle through the three display modes.
Battery Replacement
When the low battery message ("bat") appears, or if the display seems to be fading, the battery needs to be replaced.
- Location: The battery compartment is on the underside of the binocular, directly below the display.
- Procedure:
- Open the battery cover using a coin inserted into the slot.
- Rotate the cover 1/4 turn counter-clockwise and remove it.
- Remove the old battery.
- Replace it with a CR1225 lithium battery (3 Volt).
- Insert the new battery with the "+" mark facing up towards the cover.
- After Replacement: If the unit displays "CAL" after replacing the battery, you can either go outside and follow the compass calibration procedure described earlier, or press ENT twice, allow the unit to turn off automatically after 3 minutes, and then recalibrate the compass just before your next outdoor use.
Important Notes
- Compass Sensitivity: The compass is very sensitive. Strong magnetic or electrical fields can interfere with both its readings and accuracy.
- Temperature Stability: During extreme or rapid temperature changes, the compass must return to a stable temperature to ensure accurate readings.
