Tasco Binocular Instruction Manual
Welcome and Safety
Congratulations on the purchase of your new Tasco binocular. This manual provides instructions for optimal performance and care of this precision instrument.
[Warning] NEVER LOOK AT THE SUN OR OTHER INTENSE SOURCES OF LIGHT THROUGH THE BINOCULAR TO AVOID THE RISK OF EYE DAMAGE OR BLINDNESS.
Adjusting Your Binoculars
Eyecup Adjustment (See Fig. 1)
Your Tasco binocular features eyecups that can be rolled or twisted up or down to optimize your viewing experience and block extraneous light. For users not wearing eyeglasses, keep eyecups fully extended ("up" position). For users wearing glasses, roll down or twist the eyecups to the "down" position. This brings your eyes closer to the eyepiece lens, ensuring a full field of view without "cutoff" or "tunnel vision."

IPD Adjustment (See Fig. 2)
Interpupillary distance (IPD), the spacing between your pupils, varies from person to person. To adjust your binocular to match your eyes, follow these simple steps:
- Hold the binocular in a normal viewing position.
- Grasp each barrel firmly and move them closer together or further apart until you see a single circular field. Do not worry about focus yet.
- Always reset the IPD before using the binoculars.
Fig. 2 Description: Illustration showing the interpupillary distance adjustment by moving the binocular barrels.
Diopter Adjustment and Focusing (See Fig. 3)
Proper adjustment ensures clear vision for each eye.
- Adjust interpupillary distance as previously described.
- Set the diopter adjustment ring to zero and view a distant object.
- Keep both eyes open at all times.
- Cover the objective (front) lens on the side with the diopter adjustment ring (usually the right side).
- Using the center focus wheel, focus on a distant object with fine detail (e.g., a brick wall or tree branches) until it appears sharp.
- Uncover the objective lens on the diopter side, then cover the other objective lens.
- Use the diopter adjustment ring to focus the image for the eye on that side. Be cautious to avoid over-turning or forcing the ring, which could damage the eyepiece.
- Your binocular should now be adjusted for your eyesight. Use the center focus wheel for focusing at different distances. Note your diopter setting for future reference.

"Zoom" Feature – Select Models Only (See Fig. 4)
For binoculars with a zoom feature:
- Follow the focusing steps outlined above. The diopter adjustment ring is typically on the left side for zoom models.
- When focusing a variable power binocular, start at high power. This minimizes focus readjustment when changing magnification. Set the zoom lever to the highest power and focus on a distant object with fine detail.
- Adjust for individual eye strength using the diopter adjustment ring as described previously.
- Your binocular is now properly adjusted. You can now zoom to any power, and the subject will remain in focus.
Fig. 4 Description: Illustration of the zoom lever on the binocular.
Note: To focus on closer objects, first focus at high power, then adjust the zoom lever to the desired lower power. Zoom optics generally provide better image quality at lower powers.
Special Models and Features
Focus Free® Models
Some Tasco binoculars feature a focus-free optical system, offering fast, clear viewing from approximately 35-100 feet to infinity without needing focus control adjustment. These models do not have a diopter setting.
Neckstrap Attachment
To attach the neckstrap:
- Thread the strap end upwards through the strap attachment loop.
- Hold the buckle and thread the strap end inside it.
- Adjust the strap length and pull the webbing tight to secure it.
Note: Do not attach metal rings directly to the strap loop for aftermarket accessories. Use nylon zip ties instead.
Waterproof / Fogproof Models
Tasco waterproof models are O-ring sealed for moisture protection. Fogproof models are purged with dry nitrogen to remove internal moisture. Check product packaging for these features.
Tripod Mounting (Full Size Porro Prism Models Only)
To mount on a tripod or monopod:
- Unscrew (counter-clockwise) the cap covering the threaded socket at the center hinge.
- Use a compatible binocular tripod adapter (e.g., Bushnell model #161001CM) to attach to a standard tripod for a stable horizontal image.
Note: Compact or roof prism models may not have a tripod mount socket.
Care and Cleaning
Proper care ensures years of trouble-free service.
- Do not expose non-waterproof models to heavy rain or excessive moisture.
- Store binoculars with eyecups in the "up" position if they are roll-down/flexible to prevent stress on the eyecups.
- Avoid sharp impacts. Use the neckstrap to prevent accidental drops and optic misalignment.
- Store binoculars in their case in a cool, dry place when not in use.
- Avoid storing in hot places like vehicle interiors. High temperatures can affect lubricants and sealants. Never leave binoculars where direct sunlight can enter the lenses, as it can cause damage (burning glass effect).
- All moving parts are permanently lubricated; do not attempt to lubricate them.
Cleaning Binocular Lenses
- Blow away dust or debris, or use a soft lens brush.
- For fingerprints or smears, clean with a soft cotton cloth using a circular motion. Microfiber cloths are ideal.
- For thorough cleaning, use photographic lens tissue and cleaning fluid or isopropyl alcohol. Always apply fluid to the cloth, not directly to the lens.
[Warning] EXCESSIVE RUBBING OR USE OF A COARSE CLOTH MAY CAUSE PERMANENT DAMAGE TO THE LENS COATINGS.
