Tasco Spotting Scope Owner's Guide

Thank you for purchasing your new Tasco® Spotting Scope. This manual will help you optimize your viewing experience by explaining how to utilize the scope's controls and features, and how to care for it. Read the instructions carefully before using your scope.

Safety Warning

⚠️ NEVER LOOK DIRECTLY AT THE SUN WITH YOUR SPOTTING SCOPE, AS IT MAY CAUSE SERIOUS DAMAGE TO YOUR EYES.

Parts Guide

The page displays three olive-green Tasco spotting scopes, each with a black rubberized eyepiece, a zoom ring, a focus knob, and a sunshade. The model numbers TS154550, TS20606045, and TS20608045 are listed below each scope.

Notes: 1 Tripod mounting base with rotating ring on 80mm models. 2 Sunshade extendable on 20-60x models.

Tripod Mounting

After setting up your tripod (the provided tabletop unit, or any tripod you prefer) on a stable, level surface, fasten the scope's mounting base to the screw on the tripod's platform, so that the scope is held securely in place. The tripod mounting base can be rotated on the 20-60x80mm model by loosening a small knob on one side, above the mount.

Using the Zoom Eyepiece and Focusing

Rotate the zoom ring (B) on the eyepiece to change magnifying power from low to high. Lower power settings provide a brighter image with a wider field of view; higher powers allow observing smaller details on more distant subjects. Turn the focus knob (C) in either direction until your subject appears as sharp as possible. To reduce the need to readjust focus when zooming, set the zoom to its highest power and focus on your subject. When you zoom back down to lower powers, it will stay in focus. Note: the zoom eyepiece is not interchangeable. Do not attempt to remove it from the scope.

An image shows the eyecup extended, demonstrating how to twist it for use without glasses. Another image shows the sunshade extended, illustrating how to pull it out to reduce glare.

Using the Twist-Up Eyecup and Sliding Sun Shade

If you are not wearing glasses, twist the rubber eyecup (A) counter-clockwise to extend it. If you experience glare or lens flare due to the angle and direction of the sun relative to the front lens, pull the sun shade (F) out to extend it. (Note: the sun shade is fixed on the 15-45x50mm model and cannot be extended).

Using the Tripod

First, fold open the mini tripod's legs and place it on a sturdy, level surface. Attach the spotting scope to the included mini tripod by turning the mounting screw on the top of the tripod clockwise into the socket on the base of the scope until it is securely attached (but do not overtighten). The socket on the base is a standard size (1/4"-20 thread), so any tripod of any size may also be used with this scope.

Using the Tripod Pan Arm

To tilt or pan the scope, first loosen the head of the tripod by twisting the tripod's pan arm handle counter-clockwise, move the scope into the desired position, then tighten the tripod head by twisting the handle in a clockwise direction.

Cleaning and General Care

The lenses of your Tasco spotting scope are fully coated for highest light transmission. As with any coated optics, special care must be taken in cleaning the lenses. Follow these tips for proper lens cleaning:

Never disassemble your spotting scope. Irreparable damage can result from unauthorized service attempts, which also void the warranty.
