Important Notes
- Palladiom wire-free shades are unsuitable for mounting in a pocket or recess, and other applications requiring specific clearance for installation and battery access. Refer to Battery Access Clearance section for details.
- All Palladiom shades must be mounted to blocking or other suitable structural material. Installers are responsible for selecting appropriate fasteners to support 400 lbs (181 kg) per bracket.
Dimensions and Measurements
Dimensions
Diagrams illustrate bracket-to-bracket width and fabric width for both wall mount (outside mount) and installed shade configurations.
Measurements & Deductions
No Bracket-to-Bracket Width Deductions: The Palladiom wire-free shading system does not require bracket-to-bracket width deductions. The idler offers 0.375 in (10 mm) of compliance. Outside-mount shades have no deduction. Inside-mount single and multi-shade systems also have no deduction.
Fabric Deductions: Lutron may apply fabric deductions to high aspect ratio (tall, narrow) shades. The maximum fabric deduction is 0.25 in (6 mm) per side, resulting in a light gap of 1 in (25 mm) per side. This deduction does not reveal a bare shade tube; a black bearing sleeve is visible between the bracket and fabric roll.

Fabric Drop Options
Illustrations show Regular Roll (fabric drop on the window side) and Reverse Roll (fabric drop on the room side). Reverse roll is recommended for dual-sided fabric.
Operator Side Options
Illustrations show Left Operator and Right Operator configurations. Operator side choice may be related to battery access clearance.
Bottom Bar Options
Various bottom bar options are available, including the Palladiom bottom rail, Half-Wrap Architectural bottom bars (with metal or plastic endcaps), and Designer options. Sealed options are available in specific sizes. Finishes for bottom bars include Pure White, Clear Anodized, Black Anodized, Satin Nickel, Brass, Satin Graphite, and Aged Bronze. Bottom bars can be ordered in a different finish than the brackets. For more information on finishes and design options, visit lutron.com/en-US/Products/Pages/ShadingSystems/PalladiomShades/DesignOptions.aspx.
Battery Power
The Palladiom wire-free shading system is powered by D-Cell, 1.5 V, alkaline batteries (not included). Do not mix brands or types. The battery sleeve indicates correct orientation. Battery life varies based on shade size, fabric weight, and usage patterns. Estimated battery life is calculated in the shade ordering tool. Lutron recommends specific battery manufacturers for optimal performance. Visit lutron.com/optimizing-battery-life for more information.
IMPORTANT: Battery Access Clearance
Adequate clearance is required for battery installation and changes. Diagrams illustrate maximum bracket mounting depths for wall and ceiling mounts to allow for the slide-out battery access feature of operator brackets.
- Maximum Bracket Mounting Depth (Wall-Mount/Jamb-Mount): 0.625 in (16 mm) from the front of the bracket.
- Maximum Bracket Mounting Depth (Ceiling-Mount): 0.625 in (16 mm), with additional consideration for fabric rollup size.
- Battery Sleeve Removal/Insertion: Batteries are housed in a sleeve that fits inside the EDU. Clearance to end walls and window-adjacent structures is required for sleeve removal and insertion.
Diagrams show battery sleeve configurations for different shade widths (21 in – 233/16 in, 231 in – 29% in, and 2911/16 in – 144 in), indicating the number of D-cell batteries required (3, 4, or 6 respectively) and the approximate sleeve lengths.
Close-quarters Installations: For installations with limited battery access, specific methods are provided:
- If 3 in (76 mm) or more clearance is available, the sleeve can be clipped at narrow points to add flexibility for one-by-one battery insertion.
- If clearance is less than 3 in (76 mm) or bracket mounting depth is restrictive, the operator bracket can be extended, and the shade release pressed to remove the shade from brackets for battery access.
Application-Specific Installation Notes
On-Door and Above-Door Mounting
Palladiom Wire-Free Shades for door applications use an operator bracket with a vertical bracket slide ring to prevent inadvertent extension and improve stability. This is beneficial for hinged doors and installations above doors.
For more information, see Application Note #802.
Pocket or Recess Mounting
Palladiom Wire-Free Shades are not recommended for pocket or recess mounting due to clearance requirements for installation, removal, and battery access. A minimum of 6 in (152 mm) clearance is required on the room side of the brackets.
Dual Mounting
Dual mounting applications are limited due to clearance requirements for installation, removal, and battery access. Some configurations may require shade removal for battery changes.
Corner Mounting (‘Butt and Pass’)
For corner mounting, configure shades so idler brackets are in the corner to prevent the operator bracket of the pass shade from being trapped. Allow at least 1/4 in (6 mm) clearance between the pass shade fabric roll and the butt shade bracket to accommodate movement at the idler end.
Mounting Options: End Brackets
Palladiom wire-free shading system mounting brackets are made from solid aluminum or brass and are available in 7 standard finishes. Brackets may be ordered in a different finish than the bottom bar. Shims (1/16 in or 1.6 mm thick) are included with each bracket and can be used to increase projection or level the shade. Additional shims are available separately. Each bracket includes a Bracket Foot Cover.
