Insteon Alert Module Owner's Manual

Getting Started

Everything you need to quickly get up and running.

Device Overview

The Insteon Alert Module is depicted with its key components: a 'Set Button' for configuration, a 'Status LED' indicating device status, and an 'Alert Speaker' for audible alerts. An accompanying instruction shows the module being plugged into an unswitched wall outlet.

Alert Types

The Alert Module features two types of audible alerts. Choose the suitable alert when creating a Scene using tap-tap linking.

Instant Chime

Two short beeps will sound the moment Alert Module is triggered.

Instant Loud Ringing

Loud ringing will sound the moment Alert Module is triggered. The loud ringing will persist for 30 seconds unless stopped by disarming Alert Module.

Triggering Alert Module from an Insteon Device

  1. On Alert Module, tap the set button until you hear the desired alert tone.
  2. On your Insteon device, press and hold the set button until its LED begins blinking.
  3. On Alert Module, press and hold the set button until you hear a double-beep.
  4. Test Alert Module by triggering your sensor or turning on your Insteon device.

Result

Your Insteon device will now trigger Alert Module.

Local Programming

Use the set button to link Insteon devices together with the Alert Module.

About Local Programming

Local Programming is a visual representation of the device's settings, allowing configuration through a straightforward, navigable path. Many device features can be configured using this diagram. Some devices have more options than others.

Using a Central Controller

If using the Insteon Hub or any other central controller, it is strongly advised that you do not use Local Programming. Your central controller can manage the device properties and links for you.

Navigation

To move right, press and hold the set button. To move down, tap the set button.

Status LED Indicators

  • Status LED blinks green
  • Status LED double-blinks green
  • Status LED blinks red
  • Status LED double-blinks red

Local Programming Features

Linking Mode

Readies the module for linking to another Insteon device. As linking is directional, the first device placed into linking mode will become the controller in the controller/responder relationship. The second device will become the responder. The device automatically exits linking mode after a link has been made with another Insteon device or four minutes have elapsed without linking.

Multi-Linking Mode

Readies the module for linking to multiple Insteon devices. The module will remain in linking mode for 4 minutes or until the module's set button is tapped. This mode is very useful for manually creating scenes.

Unlinking Mode

Allows the removal of links from the Insteon device. The device will automatically exit unlinking mode after a link has been removed from another Insteon device or four minutes have elapsed without linking.

MultiUnlinking Mode

Allows the removal of multiple links from the Insteon device. The device will stay in unlinking mode for 4 minutes or until the device's set button is tapped.

Local Programming Flow Chart

The Local Programming Flow Chart visually guides users through device configuration using the set button. Navigation involves 'Tap' (move down) and 'Press' (move right) actions. The chart details sequences for setting alert types (Instant Loud Ringing, Instant Chime), Arm & Disarm functionality, Linking Mode, Unlinking Mode, Multi-Linking Mode, and MultiUnlinking Mode. Specific LED status changes are indicated at various points, such as blinking green, double-blinking green, blinking red, and double-blinking red.

Factory Reset

A factory reset will erase all links stored in the device's database as well as any customized properties.

  1. Unplug Alert Module from its power outlet.
  2. Simultaneously press and hold the set button while reconnecting Alert Module to power.
  3. Continue holding the set button until Alert Module stops beeping.
  4. When the reset is complete, Alert Module will double-beep.

Result

Your Alert Module has been restored to factory settings.
