4.1 Safety regulations
Before installing the charging station, ensure the location is safe for all bystanders. Never allow children or unauthorized personnel onto the worksite. Avoid distractions during work. Maintain a healthy posture at all times. Do not leave tools or charging station components unattended. Ensure all tools are clean and dry. Protect the charging station, tools, and components from moisture, especially during rain. After maintenance, ensure all doors and panels are closed and locked before resuming operation. Be mindful of tripping hazards when digging for the foundation. Wear suitable gloves for all installation and connection processes.
⚠️ Make sure there is no danger of anyone tripping over objects or paving while you are digging the hole for the foundation.
? Make sure to wear good, suitable gloves for any special actions throughout the entire installation and connection process.
? Always check any measuring instruments before use to ensure they are working properly.
5. Mandatory Checks Before Initial Use
⚠️ The following checks are mandatory before the charging station goes live. Never use the charging station if any of these checks indicate insufficient power supply or stability. Check insulation resistance of conductors according to NEN1010 provision 61.3.3.
? Always perform the checks below before voltage is applied to the DUO charging station.
- All activities must be performed in accordance with NEN 3140.
- Check wire connections to terminals for correct order.
- Verify conductors on terminals are securely screwed (4 to 5 NM).
- Ensure the grounding connector is connected to the coded terminal and the grounding electrode/device. The grounding system must comply with NEN1010/EU/35.
- Confirm the charging station is stable.
- Check seals on charging station caps for proper installation (IP54).
- Ensure all necessary actions are completed safely.
- Verify no obstacles surround the worksite.
- Before applying voltage, contact Ecotap® B.V. at 0031 (0) 411-210210 to activate the station's software, providing the station's unique code.
6. User / Installation Manual
6.1 Mounting the casing on the foundation
- The foundation must be installed in a hole measuring 50x50 cm and 80 cm deep.
- Ensure the bottom of the hole is stable and flat. Place the foundation in the hole and level it using a spirit level. Minor deviations can be corrected when closing the hole.
- Position the charging station on the foundation without its 2 bent steel cap sections and secure using the supplied bolts and nuts (nuts on top).
- Keep the transparent lids on the front of the charging station in place for now. Ensure the station is oriented correctly (connecting side at the front).
- Close the hole with approximately 20 cm of soil/sand.
- Install the cap at the back using the supplied nuts.
- Maintain at least 1 meter of free space around the charging station for proper operation.
6.2 Opening and closing the charging station
⚠️ Always de-energize the charging column and read the operating instructions before handling maintenance or malfunctions.
The lock for the Duo Wide charging column is located at the back of the charging point, at the bottom of the door. A cover protects the lock from sand and dirt.
- Remove the cover plate using Allen 2.5.
- Open the charging point with the supplied key.
- Insert the key into the right lock.
- Turn the key fully to the right.
- Turn the cylinder (including 2 locks) completely counter-clockwise using a flat screwdriver in the slot.
- After unlocking, disconnect the door: grab the door, slide it up (approx. 1 cm), and then move the bottom away and down.
Diagram T 1.4 shows the rear view of the charging station with the lock mechanism.
6.3 Installing the protective casing
The casing pipe is provided in the box. After mounting the charging station on the foundation, remove the transparent plastic protective plate from the bottom. Fit the casing as shown in drawing 1.3 and secure with the provided strain relief.
6.4 Insert cable and secure with supplied strain relief
Feed the power cable through the casing pipe, avoiding excess length. Attach the cable clamp to the cable and secure it (max. 3 Nm).
6.5 Connecting the power cable
The meter board setup must be installed according to the network manager's specifications. Network operator materials (connection box, cable, meter) must be connected by a contractor appointed by the network operator, following installation instructions, guidelines, and BEI safety instructions.
6.6 Connecting the grounding electrode/grounding conductor
Connect the earth wire of the connection cable to the main earth bar (HAR). Also connect the earth wire from the earth connector to the main earth bar (HAR) terminal as shown in Drawing 1.3. Ensure proper earthing in compliance with NEN1010 /EU/35 regulations.
6.7 LED indication
Status | LED Indication |
---|---|
Charger not powered | No LED indication |
Charger powered and not used | 1 green blink per 10 seconds ? |
Charger powered and used not in charge | Continuous green ? |
Charger powered and used in charge | Continuous blue ? |
Refer to the table for error states.

7. Maintenance
⚠️ Always disconnect the charging station from its power supply before performing maintenance or fixing malfunctions. Repairs or component replacements must use supplier-approved products. Contact Ecotap® for any doubts. Maintenance must be performed by an authorized person/specialist and comply with NEN3140 and NEN50110 low voltage European standards. Check the charging station for leaks. Test the heating element and thermostat. Ensure the thermostat is set to five degrees or frost protection mode. Check power supply cable connections and ensure a fixed connection of 4-5 Nm. Touch up minor damage with corrosion-resistant paint (Ecotap® green ral.6018 & white ral.9016). Lubricate cylinder locks with graphite powder or suitable oil if needed.
8. Transportation and Storage
Transport the charging station upright to prevent coating damage, which could lead to corrosion. Caps can be transported in various positions if protected. Store the charging station in a dry, damp-free area.
9. In Case of Malfunctions
If the DUO Wide charging station is not functioning correctly, contact the Ecotap® 24/7 helpdesk immediately at +31 (0) 411-745020 or a licensed mechanic with testing equipment.
WARNING: All work and modifications must comply with NEN1010 at minimum.
10. Operation and Control of Charging Column
The charging column can be operated using a charging card.
This charging station is operated via a charging pass. Registration is required via the Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP). Contact Ecotap® B.V. at 0031 (0) 411-210210 during office hours for registration. After registration, the column can be used with any Electric Transport Charging Card (EV Charging Card), other suitable cards, mobile devices, or key holders. When idle, the charging column displays a regular green signal.
Operation: To start or stop charging, hold the charging card in front of the scan point. You will hear one sound signal, and the lamp will flash green. The plug locks into the Mennekes charging socket. The column communicates with the vehicle and the BackOffice system. Once safety and payment requirements are met, the maximum charging current is transmitted, and charging begins automatically, indicated by a blue light. To stop charging, hold the pass in front of the scan point again. You will hear two beeps, the lamp flashes green, and turns off once the plug is unlocked. You can then safely remove the plug.
