General Information
Solve for Tomorrow ("Competition") is organised by Samsung Malaysia Electronics (SME) Sdn. Bhd. (Company No.: 200301026766 (629186-D)), referred to as "Samsung" or "Organiser".
Competition Period
The Competition will commence from 25 August 2025, 12:00 AM to 6 December 2025, 11:59 PM ("Competition Period"). Samsung reserves the right to shorten, extend, or cancel the Competition Period at its sole discretion without prior notice. Samsung's server is the official time-keeping device.
Eligibility
This Competition is supported by the Ministry of Education, Malaysia, and is open to residents of Malaysia enrolled as full-time students in Form 1 to Form 3 in Secondary Schools nationwide ("Participant" or "Participants").
Participants must obtain their parent's or legal guardian's prior acknowledgement and consent to participate. Team registration and entries are not valid until all duly completed parental consent forms are received.
Employees and agents of the promoters, Samsung, their respective families, households, or anyone professionally connected with the Competition are not eligible.
By submitting a video/supporting document, each Participant agrees to be bound by these Terms and Conditions. Parents/legal guardians warrant that the Participant and themselves shall be irrevocably bound by these Terms and Conditions. All rules and instructions issued by Samsung are deemed incorporated.
Samsung reserves the right to amend these Terms and Conditions at any time without assigning any reason, including changes to Competition Mechanics, Competition Period, or Entry Submission Period, or substituting prizes. Samsung shall not be liable for any payment or compensation arising from such amendments.
Competition Mechanics and Qualifying Criteria
The period for submission of Entries is from 25 August 2025, 12:00 AM, Malaysia Time, to 29 November 2025, 11:59 PM, Malaysia Time ("Entry Submission Period").
The Competition comprises one category: Full-time students in Form 1 to Form 3 in eligible Secondary Schools.
Participants must form and register as a team of three (3) students. Students from different schools cannot form a team. Participants cannot join more than one team. One teacher is encouraged to mentor one to two participating teams.
The Entry Submission Period is divided into three phases:
- Phase 1 (25 August 2025 to 15 September 2025): Teams must download and complete three forms (Application, Activity Plan, Parental Consent) and email them to solvefortomorrow.my@samsung.com. Teams must describe a problem and explain how STEM can address it (1,000 words or less). Entries require Full Name (as per NRIC), NRIC number, and Email Address. Supporting documents can be attached. Ten (10) shortlisted teams will be notified.
- Phase 2 (2 October 2025 to 27 October 2025): Teams need to refine ideas and present them in a Microsoft PowerPoint Presentation with visual support. Top five (5) finalist teams will be selected and notified.
- Phase 3 (5 November 2025 to 29 November 2025): Teams must enhance their presentation, develop a prototype (optional), and submit a video recording of their presentation and prototype functions.
- Finale Presentation and Prize Giving Ceremony (6 December 2025): Finalist teams present to judges. Winners for first prize, second prize, third prize, and two consolation prizes will be announced.
Each Entry must comprise of:
- Use of STEM to solve pressing issues in Malaysia's local communities.
- Title of Project.
- Description of the opportunity or problem being addressed (100-word limit).
- Explanation of the original, innovative idea for solving issues using STEM (1,000-word limit).
- Supporting documents, if any.
All entries must be emailed to solvefortomorrow.my@samsung.com. Each team may submit only one entry. Entries must be submitted within the Entry Submission Period and through specified means. Samsung is not responsible for service interruptions that interfere with participation.
Winner Selection Process
Entries are judged by a panel of judges based on the following criteria:
Phase 1 Criteria:
- 40%: Novelty of the discovery or approach to a problem.
- 40%: Feasibility with current technology and resources.
- 20%: Improvement in solution completeness through repeated tests and reconfiguration.
Phase 2 Criteria:
- 20%: Novelty and differentiation of the discovery or approach from existing solutions.
- 50%: Feasibility with current technology and resources; applicability to society considering laws/regulations.
- 30%: Improvement in solution completeness through repeated tests and reconfiguration; positive feedback from actual community application.
Shortlisted Teams are encouraged to provide images or videos of their prototypes to earn points for "feasibility" and "innovativeness".
Phase 3 Criteria:
- 25%: Novelty and differentiation of the discovery or approach from existing solutions; research on various ideas.
- 25%: Feasibility with current technology and resources; applicability to society considering laws/regulations; detailed final plan.
- 50%: Improvement in solution completeness through repeated tests and reconfiguration; positive feedback from actual community application; sustainable & diffusible solution.
Finalist Teams are encouraged to showcase prototypes or images/videos during the finale to earn extra points in "feasibility", "innovativeness", and "presentation effectiveness".
Awards and Prizes
Five (5) teams will be selected in Phase 3. Winning teams receive prizes:
- First Prize (Total worth up to RM44,000): Team receives Samsung products worth up to RM 18,000 for their School; 3 team members receive Samsung products worth up to RM 24,000.
- Second Prize (Total worth up to RM30,000): Team receives Samsung products worth up to RM 10,000 for their School; 3 team members receive Samsung products worth up to RM 19,000.
- Third Prize (Total worth up to RM23,000): Team receives Samsung products worth up to RM 8,000 for their School; 3 team members receive Samsung products worth up to RM 14,000.
- Fourth Prize (Consolation) (Total worth up to RM12,000): Team receives Samsung products worth up to RM 2,000 for their School; 3 team members receive Samsung products worth up to RM 9,000.
- Fifth Prize (Consolation) (Total worth up to RM8,000): Team receives Samsung products worth RM 2,000 for their School; 3 team members receive Samsung products worth up to RM 5,000.
Prizes are not exchangeable for other items or transferable.
Winning/selected teams will be notified via email. Verified winners will receive instructions for prize collection and finalist phase details.
Winning Teams must attend prize presentation and publicity programmes at their own cost. For prize collection, proof of identity and email verification are required. If a proxy collects the prize, a photocopy of a team member's ID/passport, an authorization letter, and the proxy's ID/passport are required. Samsung reserves the right to reject prize collections not adhering to the process. Documents will only be sighted for verification and not retained.
Prizes must be collected within seven (7) working days of notification. Unclaimed prizes will be handled at Samsung's discretion.
Samsung reserves the right to change prizes with items of equal value and to amend these Terms and Conditions without prior notice.
Other Terms and Conditions
Samsung collects Participants' personal information for the Competition and may use, process, or disclose it (including to overseas third parties) in accordance with these Terms & Conditions and the Samsung Privacy Policy (http://www.samsung.com/my/info/privacy.html). Participants (or their parent/legal guardian) consent to this collection, use, processing, and disclosure, warranting that all provided information is true and accurate. Entry validity is conditional on all team members providing this information.
By participating, Participants communicate electronically with Samsung and agree to receive electronic communications, including agreements, notices, and disclosures, via email or notices on the Competition microsite.
Each Team warrants that their Entry is original, not previously entered elsewhere, and they possess exclusive rights to it. Entries must not infringe intellectual property, privacy, publicity, or other third-party rights. Entries must not contain false, misleading, pornographic, libellous, defamatory, obscene, indecent, sexually explicit, hateful, political, racist, religious, blasphemous, harassing, threatening, illegal, offensive, or objectionable content. Entries must not solicit funds or contain viruses or malicious programs. Samsung reserves the right to moderate entries and report violations.
Participants may be required to take part in marketing or publicity exercises. They may be requested to grant Samsung consents and waivers for the use and/or disclosure of their name, voice, photograph, likeness, or other personal identifiable information in any media for promotion and publicity of the Competition, Samsung brand, or products. Participants are free to decline, but may be disqualified. Samsung may publish, promote, copy, reproduce, transmit, display, edit, adapt, modify, create derivative works of, or otherwise distribute their Entry (or parts thereof) royalty-free, without attribution or further consent, in any manner or media. Participants grant all necessary consents and waivers.
Teams consent to their Entry being made available for public viewing and commenting. Samsung may publish comments or ratings associated with the Entry. Teams waive privacy expectations regarding their Entry.
Participants must not disclose confidential information or speak to the press/media about the Competition without Samsung's prior written approval.
Winners may be required to enter into a separate written agreement covering applicable terms, including confidentiality and intellectual property rights.
Samsung reserves the right to disqualify any Participant or Team suspected of fraud, manipulation, or interference with the Competition or failure to adhere to these Terms and Conditions.
In case of discrepancies in submitted information or breach of third-party rights, Samsung may disqualify the submission and select the next suitable participant.
If the Competition is interfered with, cannot be conducted as anticipated, or for other reasons, Samsung may suspend, terminate, or cancel it. No person is entitled to compensation in such events.
Samsung does not guarantee prize delivery. To the fullest extent permissible by law, Samsung disclaims all warranties regarding prizes meeting winner requirements or prize delivery. Samsung excludes liability for personal injury, loss, or damage arising from the Competition, including technical difficulties, theft, third-party interference, late/lost/damaged entries, prize value variations, tax liability, or prize use. Prizes may be subject to additional terms.
Participants agree to indemnify and hold Samsung harmless from claims arising from infringement of third-party rights, breach of these Terms and Conditions, or participation in the Competition.
Participants bear their own costs and expenses incurred in participation; no reimbursement is sought from Samsung.
In case of disputes, Samsung's decision is final and binding. No correspondence, appeal, or further claims will be entertained.
These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of Malaysia. Participants submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Malaysia.
