Unlocking the Vehicle

Important: To prevent accidental engine start, do not leave the electronic key in the vehicle if children or animals are present.

Note: The range of the electronic key may vary significantly depending on weather conditions and interference from other transmitting devices.

Electronic Key Functions:

  1. Locking:
    • Single Press: Locks the vehicle, activates perimeter alarm.
    • Double Press (within 3 seconds): Double locks the vehicle (doors cannot be opened from inside), activates perimeter alarm and interior protection.
  2. Unlocking:
    • Single Point Access: First press unlocks the driver's door; subsequent presses unlock passenger doors and the tailgate.
    • Multiple Point Access: Single press unlocks all doors and the tailgate.

To switch between single/multiple point access, press and hold the unlock and lock buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds. Hazard lights will flash twice to confirm the change.

Note: If no door or tailgate is opened within 1 minute of unlocking, the doors will automatically re-lock.

  3. Tailgate Opening: Press and release to open the tailgate. The alarm system remains active while the tailgate is open, but the interior sensors are deactivated. Hazard lights flash twice upon closing to confirm alarm re-activation.
  4. Panic Mode: Press and hold for 3 seconds (or press 3 times within 3 seconds) to activate the horn and hazard lights. The system automatically switches off after 2 minutes 45 seconds. It can be deactivated by pressing and holding the button for 3 seconds (or three presses within 3 seconds) or by starting the engine with a valid key.
  5. Exterior Lighting: Press the exterior lighting switch when approaching the vehicle in the dark. Press again to switch off. Factory default is 30 seconds, adjustable from 0 to 180 seconds.
  6. Emergency Mechanical Key: Slide and remove the cover to access the emergency key. Remove and unfold the key.
  7. If the vehicle cannot be opened with the electronic key: Insert the emergency mechanical key into the slot at the base of the door lock cover. Gently lift and turn to release the cover. Insert the emergency key into the exposed lock cylinder to unlock.

Entering the Vehicle

The vehicle is equipped with two electronic keys that act as remote controls for locking, unlocking, and operating the vehicle. Refer to sections on Keyless Entry, Keyless Locking, and Starting the Engine.

Locking the Vehicle

Ensure all doors and the tailgate are closed. Turn the key towards the front of the vehicle and release. This locks all doors, but the alarm is not activated.

Unlocking the Vehicle

Turn the key towards the rear of the vehicle and release. If the alarm system is deactivated, all doors and the tailgate unlock. If the alarm system is active, only the driver's door unlocks.

If the vehicle is unlocked with the emergency mechanical key while the alarm system is active, the alarm will sound. The alarm will stop when the electronic key is correctly positioned.

Note: A new electronic key for a lost one can only be ordered from your dealer/authorized workshop. Proof of ownership will be required. In case of loss or theft, immediately notify your dealer/authorized workshop.

Note: The fuel filler flap can only be opened when the vehicle is unlocked.

Full Opening

Press and hold the unlock button for 3 seconds to unlock the vehicle and open all windows. To cancel, press any electronic key button or operate the driver's window switch. To stop a single window, press its switch.

This function can be enabled/disabled in the Vehicle Set-up menu.

Keyless Entry

Note for individuals with implanted medical devices: Maintain a distance of at least 22 cm (8.7 inches) from any transmitters installed in the vehicle to avoid interference.

(1) Lost Electronic Key: Contact your dealer/authorized workshop to purchase and program a new key. If an electronic key is lost or stolen, notify the dealer/authorized workshop to reprogram the remaining key(s).

(1) Electronic Key Not Detected: The electronic key may not be detected if it is inside a metal object or shielded by a device with a backlit LCD screen (e.g., smartphone, laptop, gaming console). Keep the key away from these items when attempting keyless entry or start.

The keyless entry system allows unlocking the vehicle or deactivating the alarm by pulling any door handle. The electronic key must be within 1.0 m (3 feet) of the door handle. The alarm deactivates, and doors unlock according to the current alarm setting (single/multiple point access). Hazard lights flash twice (or a double beep sounds in some markets) as confirmation.

Note: The electronic key should simply be with the driver in a bag or non-metallic wallet. It does not need to be removed or held.

Note: If the alarm is set to single point access and a door other than the driver's is opened first, all doors will unlock as in multiple point access.

Steering Column Lock

The steering column has an electronic lock that disengages when the electronic key is detected inside the vehicle. If the steering column lock malfunctions, a STEERING COLUMN LOCKED message will appear on the information display. In this case:

  1. Lock and then unlock the vehicle with the electronic key.
  2. Try to unlock the steering column again by gently turning the steering wheel left and right while locking and then unlocking the vehicle using the electronic key.
  3. If the problem persists, contact qualified personnel immediately.

Door Locking While Driving

The auto-locking feature automatically locks all doors when the vehicle starts moving. This function can be enabled/disabled in the Vehicle Set-up menu.

Note: Pressing the lock or unlock button on the electronic key disables the auto-locking function for that trip.

Opening and Closing the Tailgate

Ensure at least 1 m (39 inches) of clearance above and behind the vehicle before opening the tailgate to prevent damage.

(1) Bicycle Carrier: Do not use the tailgate if a bicycle carrier is installed. Remove bicycles and/or carriers before opening the tailgate.

Upper Tailgate

Unlock the vehicle and press the sensor pad (1) on the underside of the exterior handle. Pull the tailgate upwards to open.

Lower Tailgate

With the upper tailgate open, press the sensor pad on the lower tailgate trim (2). Pull the lower tailgate downwards to open.

Replacing the Electronic Key Battery

A significant reduction in the electronic key's effective range and a SMART KEY BATTERY LOW message on the information display indicate the battery needs replacement.

To replace the battery:

  1. Slide the cover in the direction of the arrow until it clicks. Remove the cover.
  2. Use the emergency mechanical key to separate the electronic key housing.
  3. Insert a new CR2032 battery with the positive (+) terminal facing up. (Available from dealer/authorized workshop).

Note: Avoid touching the new battery, as finger moisture and oils can reduce its lifespan and cause corrosion.

Reassemble in reverse order, ensuring parts click into place.

Battery Disposal:

Used batteries should be disposed of properly as they contain hazardous substances. Consult your dealer/authorized workshop and/or local authorities for disposal advice.

Simple Locking

Warning: Before exiting the vehicle, ensure the gear selector is in 'P' (Park), the engine is off, the Electric Parking Brake (EPB) is engaged, and the electronic key is not left in the vehicle.

Simple locking allows the vehicle doors to be locked from the outside. Doors can still be unlocked and opened from inside. Only the perimeter alarm is activated in this mode.

Double Locking

Warning: Do not use double locking if people or animals are inside the vehicle. They will not be able to exit in an emergency, and emergency services may not be able to free them quickly.

Double locking secures the vehicle and prevents doors from being opened from the inside or outside. Doors cannot be unlocked or opened from the cabin. This provides enhanced security if the vehicle is left unattended, as it cannot be opened by breaking a window and accessing interior unlock switches or door handles. The alarm system also activates in full-function mode.

Perimeter Alarm

(1) Anti-theft System Modifications: Do not make any changes or modifications to the anti-theft system. Such changes may cause the system to fail.

The perimeter alarm will be triggered if:

If the vehicle is equipped with a self-powered alarm siren, the siren will activate if the battery is disconnected or if an attempt is made to disconnect the siren.

Exiting the Vehicle

Note: This setting is useful for situations such as ferry transport, leaving animals in the vehicle, or leaving a window open.

Full Alarm Activation

When the alarm is activated in full-function mode, it will trigger if:

If the vehicle is equipped with a self-powered alarm siren, the alarm activates if:

Note: In this mode, an open window or sunroof may trigger the alarm due to airflow in the cabin. Ensure all windows and the sunroof are fully closed before double locking the vehicle.

Interior Protection

The interior protection feature, part of the full-function alarm mode, can be temporarily disabled via the Vehicle Set-Up menu.

Note: Once enabled, this feature activates on the next double lock using the electronic key.

Full Closing

Warning: Before performing a full close, ensure that doors, hood, or tailgate are not obstructed by children, animals, or any objects. The vehicle is equipped with protection mechanisms to prevent serious injury, but injuries are still possible.

Press and hold the lock button for 3 seconds. This performs a simple lock and immediately activates the alarm in full-function mode. After 3 seconds, all open windows will close. This function can be enabled/disabled in the Vehicle Set-up menu.

Door Lock and Unlock Handles

From inside the cabin, all doors can be locked by pressing the lock button (1) on the driver's or passenger's door. Each rear door can be locked separately by pressing its respective lock button. To unlock and open the front door, pull the handle (2). To unlock and open a rear door, first use the lock button, then pull the door handle.

Central Locking Buttons

To lock (4) or unlock (3) the vehicle, press the corresponding button on the door. Note: The central unlock button is disabled if the vehicle is locked with the electronic key.

Locking Failure

If one or more doors, the hood, or the tailgate are not securely closed, the locks will not engage when attempting to lock the vehicle, and a double beep will sound. The vehicle will not fully lock until all doors, the hood, and the tailgate are completely closed.

Keyless Locking

Warning: Do not use double locking if people or animals are inside the vehicle. They will not be able to exit in an emergency, and emergency services may not be able to free them quickly.

Note: Keyless locking only works if the electronic key is outside the vehicle. If the key is not present when the button is pressed, a double warning beep will sound.

To initiate a full closing of the windows, press and hold the keyless lock button for 3 seconds. The vehicle will lock and the alarm will activate. Note: Windows only close while the button is pressed. To fully secure the vehicle, keep the button pressed until all windows are fully closed.

Seat Adjustment (Manual)

Warning: Do not adjust the seat position while the vehicle is in motion. This could lead to loss of vehicle control and injury.

  1. Seat position forward/backward adjustment.
  2. Seat height adjustment.
  3. Seatback recline adjustment.
  4. Lumbar support adjustment.
  5. Armrest height adjustment.

Seat Adjustment (Power)

Warning: Do not adjust the seat position while the vehicle is in motion. This could lead to loss of vehicle control and injury.

  1. Bolster Adjustment: A. Inflate bolster. B. Deflate bolster.
  2. Lumbar Support Adjustment.
  3. Seatback Recline Adjustment.
  4. Seat Height Adjustment.
  5. Seat Cushion Tilt Adjustment.
  6. Seat Position Forward/Backward Adjustment.

Seat adjustment is only possible when the electronic key is in the vehicle and the ignition is on.

Obstructions to Seat Position Adjustment

(1) Seat Stops Unexpectedly: If the seat unexpectedly stops during adjustment, check for obstructions and remove them. To reset the seat adjustment mechanism, press the button again to continue the interrupted adjustment and hold for 2 seconds. Once seat movement resumes, hold the button until the seat reaches its extreme position in that direction. Seat adjustment can now be performed normally.

Note: If there are no obstructions but the seat still jams during adjustment, contact your dealer/authorized workshop.

Correct Seating Position

Warning: The driver and front passenger must not travel with the seatback fully reclined. Warning: Do not adjust the seat position while the vehicle is in motion.

All components—seats, head restraints, seat belts, and airbags—provide protection for occupants. Correct use of this vehicle equipment ensures more reliable protection, so always follow these guidelines:

  1. Sit upright with your lower back firmly against the seatback. To ensure optimal seat belt protection in a collision, do not recline the seatback too far backward.
  2. Do not position the driver's seat too close to the steering wheel. A minimum distance of 254 mm (10 inches) between the center of your chest and the airbag cover on the steering wheel is recommended. Maintain a proper grip on the steering wheel with your arms slightly bent.
  3. Adjust the head restraint so that the top of the head restraint is level with the top of your head.
  4. Position the seat belt so it passes between your neck and shoulder. The belt should lie snugly across your hips, not your stomach.

Your driving position should be comfortable and allow you to operate all vehicle controls.

Saving the Driver's Seat Position

After adjusting the power driver's seat, steering column, and exterior mirrors, you can save these settings for future use.

  1. Press the memory button (M) to activate the memory function.
  2. Within 5 seconds, press one of the preset buttons (1, 2, or 3) to save the current settings. The information display will show MEMORY (1, 2, or 3) SETTINGS SAVED, and a confirmation beep will sound.
  3. To recall saved settings, press the corresponding preset button. The information display will show MEMORY (1, 2 OR 3) RECALLED.

Seat positions can only be saved within the specified 5-second interval. Saving new settings to a memory cell will overwrite the previously stored settings.

Folding Armrest

The folding armrest (if equipped) can be stowed in an upright position. The required height is set by the adjustment wheel (indicated by the arrow).

Folding Rear Seats (5-Seater)

Always secure items transported in the vehicle. (3) Never transport passengers in the luggage compartment. All occupants must sit in the correct position and be restrained by seat belts while the vehicle is in motion.

To fold the seats partially or fully:

  1. Fully lower the head restraints.
  2. Pull the strap on the relevant seat cushion to raise it to an upright position.
  3. Pull the seatback release lever(s) and lower the seatback(s) until they lock into place.

Note: Some 5-seater models have seats similar to the 7-seater model.

Raising Seatbacks (5-Seater)

Ensure the locking mechanism is fully engaged when the seatback is raised. Red marks around the seatback levers indicate incomplete locking.

To release the seats, pull the strap (4) vertically upwards, then raise the seats, reversing the folding procedure. Note: Raise head restraints to the required level before a passenger occupies the seat.

Rear Seats

Folding Rear Seats (7-Seater)

One seat can be folded to create a table between the two outer seats, or all three seats can be folded forward to increase luggage space. A single seat can also be folded for access to the third row.

Note: Rear seats cannot be folded if the front seats are fully moved backward. Note: The middle seatback should always be folded first.

  1. Pull the seatback release lever forward.
  2. Fold the seatback forward into the fold-flat table position.
  3. Pull the strap at the front of the seat and push the seat down to fold it forward for increased luggage space.
  4. The tailgate cover can be stowed behind the folded seats as shown.

Raising Seatbacks (7-Seater)

Warning: Before driving, inspect and check the seat positions to ensure seat cushions and seatbacks are securely locked. Red marks around the seatback release levers indicate incomplete locking.

Warning: When raising rear seats, ensure seat belts are correctly routed through the guides and not trapped behind the seats. (1) Do not raise seats if the tailgate cover is stowed behind them, as this may damage the tailgate cover. Note: The middle seatback should always be raised last.

  1. Pull the strap (3) at the front of the seat cushion.
  2. Grip the top and bottom of the seatback, raise the seat, and return it to the fold-flat table position.
  3. Pull the release lever (1) forward.
  4. Pull the seatback upwards and return it to the upright position. The locking mechanism will engage when the seat is in its normal position. Note: Raise head restraints to the required level before a passenger occupies the seat.

Accessing the Third Row Seats (7-Seater)

(1) Warning: Do not operate the vehicle with the rear seats in the third-row access position. The seatback could suddenly fall forward during driving and cause injury.

To access the third-row seats in this manner, the second-row seat head restraint must be fully lowered first.

  1. Pull the seatback release lever forward.
  2. Lower the seatback to the fold-flat table position.
  3. Pull the access lever on the side of the seat.
  4. Fold the seat forward.

To return the seat to the upright position, lower the seat until the access lever locks, then pull the seatback release lever and return the seatback to the upright position.

Note: The second-row seats cannot be moved directly from the cargo position to the third-row access position. The seatback must first be returned to the fold-flat table position.

When returning the seat from the access position, ensure nothing obstructs its movement.

Before driving, inspect and check the seat positions to ensure seat cushions and seatbacks are securely locked. Red marks around the seatback release levers indicate incomplete locking.

Third Row Seats (7-Seater)

( Warning: When folding the third-row seats, ensure there is nothing underneath or in the footwell, as this could damage the item or the seat. ( Be careful not to trap your hands when raising and lowering the third-row seat. (1) Do not raise the third-row seats if the tailgate cover is stowed behind the second-row seats, as this may damage the tailgate cover or the seats.

The third-row seats can be folded to create a flat load floor.

Folding and Unfolding Third Row Seats

Warning: When using the third-row seats, their head restraints must be raised. Warning: When raising rear seats, ensure seat belts are correctly routed through the guides and not trapped behind the seats.

Folding:

  1. Press the head restraint release button and fully lower the head restraint.
  2. Pull the strap (located at the rear of the cushion) to release the seat. This may require some force. Fold the cushion fully forward until it locks into place.
  3. Pull the seatback release lever upwards and fold the seatback fully forward until it locks into the luggage compartment floor.

Unfolding:

  1. Pull the seatback release lever to release the seatback and raise it to the upright position. Ensure it is securely locked.
  2. Release the latch to raise the cushion. Slide it into place and ensure the cushion locks onto the seatback.
  3. Raise the head restraint until it clicks into place.

Head Restraints

Front Head Restraints

Adjust the head restraint so that the top of the head restraint is above the back of your head. An incorrectly adjusted head restraint increases the risk of death or serious injury in a collision.

The head restraint can be tilted forward and backward. For maximum protection in a collision, head restraints should be adjusted as close to the back of the head as possible.

Do not drive or transport passengers with head restraints removed from the seats. The absence of a correctly adjusted head restraint increases the risk of neck injury in a collision.

Do not adjust head restraints while the vehicle is in motion.

Store removed head restraints safely to prevent them from becoming a hazard.

  1. To move the head restraint, press the release button.
  2. While holding the release button, raise or lower the head restraint to the desired position. See Correct Seating Position.

If necessary, manual head restraints can be removed (e.g., for installing a larger child seat). Raise the head restraint to its highest position and press the locking button. Remove the head restraint from the seatback.

Always reinstall the head restraint before a passenger occupies the seat.

To install a head restraint, ensure it is correctly oriented, then insert the head restraint posts into the holes and press down on the head restraint until it clicks.

Note: Refer to CHILD SEATS for further information on correct child seat installation.

Rear Head Restraints

Adjust the head restraint so that the top of the head restraint is above the back of your head. An incorrectly adjusted head restraint increases the risk of death or serious injury in a collision.

Do not drive or transport passengers with head restraints removed from the seats. The absence of a correctly adjusted head restraint increases the risk of neck injury in a collision. (4)

Store removed head restraints in a safe place.
