Installing and operating your fridge

Before starting to use your fridge, you should pay attention to the following points:

  • Operating voltage for your fridge is 220-240 V at 50Hz.
  • The manufacturer does not take responsibility for damages that occur due to ungrounded usage.
  • Do not use a plug adapter.
  • Place your fridge in a place that it would not be exposed to direct sunlight.
  • Your appliance should be at least 50 cm away from stoves, gas ovens, and heater cores, and should be at least 5 cm away from electrical ovens.
  • Your fridge should never be used outdoors or left under the rain.
  • When your fridge is placed next to a deep freezer, there should be at least 2 cm between them to prevent humidity on the outer surface.
  • Do not place anything on your fridge, and install your fridge in a suitable place so that at least 15 cm is available on the upper side.
  • The adjustable front legs should be adjusted to make sure your appliance is level and stable. You can adjust the legs by turning them clockwise (or in the opposite direction). This should be done before placing food in the fridge.
  • Before using your fridge, wipe all parts back with warm water added with a tea spoonful of sodium bicarbonate, and then rinse with clean water and dry. Place all parts after cleaning.
  • Install the plastic distance guide (the part with black vanes at the rear) by turning it 90° as shown in the figure to prevent the condenser from touching the wall.
  • The refrigerator should be placed against a wall with a free distance not exceeding 75 mm.

Before Using your Fridge

  • When it is operated for the first time or after transportation, keep your fridge in the upright position for 3 hours and plug it on to allow efficient operation. Otherwise, you may damage the compressor.
  • Your fridge may have a smell when it is operated for the first time; the smell will fade away when your fridge starts to cool.

Part 2. The Various Functions and Possibilities

Thermostat Setting

The thermostat automatically regulates the inside temperature of the refrigerator compartment and freezer compartment. By rotating the knob from position 1 to 5, colder temperatures can be obtained.

Important note: Do not try to rotate the knob beyond position 1; it will stop your appliance.

  • For short-term storage of food in the freezer compartment, you can set the knob between minimum and medium position (1-3).
  • For long-term storage of food in the freezer compartment, you can set the knob to medium position (3-4).

Note that the ambient temperature, temperature of the freshly stored food, and how often the door is opened affects the temperature in the refrigerator compartment. If required, change the temperature setting.

The freezer compartment of the refrigerator can cool up to -18°C and more.

If super switch is available:

  • Normally set this switch to '0' position, except when the ambient temperature is low like in winter (i.e., below 16°C) or when the freezer temperature needs to be maintained lower. In that case, turn the switch to '1' position ON.
  • To set the super switch ON, which is on the thermostat box, press the switch down to '1' position. The switch will light up.
  • When the freezer compartment is cooled down to a sufficient temperature, or the weather gets hot, turn the super switch off to save electrical consumption.
  • When you first switch on the appliance, for starting a suitable cooling, the appliance should work 24 hours continuously until it cools down to a sufficient temperature.
  • During this time, do not open the door so often and place a lot of food inside the appliance.
  • If the unit is switched off or unplugged, you must allow at least 5 minutes before restarting or re-plugging the unit in order not to damage the compressor.

Super freezing: If ambient temperature is more than 16°C, this switch must be used as a superfreeze switch. For maximum freezing capacity, please turn on this switch 3 hours before placing fresh food. After placing fresh food in the freezer, 24 hours ON position is generally sufficient. In order to save energy, please turn off this switch after 24 hours from placing fresh food.

Warnings about Temperature Adjustments

  • It is not recommended that you operate your fridge in environments colder than 10°C in terms of its efficiency.
  • Temperature adjustments should be made according to the frequency of door openings and the quantity of food kept inside the fridge.
  • Your fridge should be operated up to 24 hours according to the ambient temperature without interruption after being plugged in to be completely cooled. Do not open doors of your fridge frequently and do not place much food inside it during this period.
  • A 5-minute delaying function is applied to prevent damage to the compressor of your fridge when you take the plug off and then plug it on again to operate it or when an energy breakdown occurs. Your fridge will start to operate normally after 5 minutes.
  • Your fridge is designed to operate in the ambient temperature intervals stated in the standards, according to the climate class stated in the information label. The manufacturer does not recommend operating your fridge outside the stated temperature value limits in terms of cooling effectiveness.
  • This appliance is designed for use at an ambient temperature within the 16°C - 32°C range.
Climate ClassAmbient Temperature (°C)
TBetween 16 and 43 (°C)
STBetween 16 and 38 (°C)
NBetween 16 and 32 (°C)
SNBetween 10 and 32 (°C)

Accessories

“Door Open” Indicator;

  • The “Door Open” indicator on the handle shows whether the door has closed properly or whether it is still open.
  • If the indicator is red, the door is still open.
  • If the indicator is white, the door is properly closed.
  • Observe that the freezer's door should always be kept closed. This will prevent food products from defrosting; it will avoid heavy ice and frost build-up inside the freezer and an unnecessary increase in energy consumption.

Making Ice cubes;

Ice tray;

  • Fill the ice tray with water and place it in the freezer compartment.
  • After the water has completely turned into ice, you can twist the tray as shown below to get the ice cubes.

All written and visual descriptions in the accessories may vary according to the appliance model.

Part 3. Food Storage in the Appliance

Refrigerator compartment

  • The refrigerator compartment is used for storing fresh food for a few days.
  • Do not place food in direct contact with the rear wall of the refrigerator compartment. Leave some space around food to allow circulation of air.
  • Do not place hot food or evaporating liquid in the refrigerator.
  • Always store food in closed containers or wrapped.
  • To reduce humidity and avoid formation of frost, never place liquids in unsealed containers in the refrigerator.
  • Meat of all types, wrapped in packages, is recommended to be placed on the glass shelf just above the vegetable bin, where the air is colder.
  • You can put fruit and vegetables into the crisper without packaging.
  • To avoid cold air escaping, try not to open the door too often, and do not leave the door open for a long time.

NOTE: Potatoes, onions, and garlic should not be stored in the refrigerator.

Freezer compartment

The freezer compartment is used for freezing fresh food and for storing frozen food for the period of time indicated on packaging, and for making ice cubes.

  • When freezing fresh food, wrap and seal the food properly; the packaging should be air-tight and shouldn't leak. Special freezer bags, aluminum foil (heavy grade, if in doubt double wrap), polythene bags, and plastic containers are ideal.
  • The maximum amount of fresh foods that can be loaded in the freezer within 24 hours is indicated on the name plate (see Freezing Capacity).
  • While freezing fresh foods (i.e., meat, fish, and mincemeat), divide them into parts you will use at one time.
  • Once the unit has been defrosted, replace the foods into the freezer and remember to consume them in as short a period of time as possible.
  • Do not allow fresh food to be frozen to come into contact with already frozen food.
  • Always mark the date and the content on the pack and do not exceed the stated storage time.
  • In case of a power failure or malfunction, the freezer compartment will maintain a sufficiently low temperature for food storage. However, avoid opening the freezer door to slow down the temperature rise within the freezer compartment.
  • Never place warm food in the freezer compartment.
  • When purchasing and storing frozen food products, ensure that the packaging is not damaged.
  • The storage time and the recommended temperature for storing frozen food is indicated on the packaging. For storing and using, follow the manufacturer's instructions. If no information is provided, food should not be stored for more than 3 months.
  • Place frozen food in the freezer compartment as soon as possible after buying it.
  • Once the food has thawed, it must not be refrozen; you must cook it as quickly as possible in order to consume or to freeze once again.

Note that: If you want to open the freezer door again immediately after closing it, it will not open easily. This is quite normal! After reaching equilibrium condition, the door will be opened easily.

Important note:

  • Frozen foods, when thawed, should be cooked just like fresh foods. If they are not cooked after being thawed, they must NEVER be re-frozen.
  • The taste of some spices found in cooked dishes (anise, basil, watercress, vinegar, assorted spices, ginger, garlic, onion, mustard, thyme, marjoram, black pepper, etc.) changes and they assume a strong taste when they are stored for a long period. Therefore, the frozen food should be added with a small amount of spices, or the desired spice should be added after the food has been thawed.
  • The storage period of food is dependent on the oil used. Suitable oils are margarine, calf fat, olive oil, and butter. Unsuitable oils are peanut oil and pig fat.
  • Food in liquid form should be frozen in plastic cups, and other food should be frozen in plastic foils or bags.

Part 4. Cleaning and Maintenance

  • Disconnect the unit from the power supply before cleaning.
  • Do not clean the appliance by pouring water over it.
  • The refrigerator compartment should be cleaned periodically using a solution of bicarbonate of soda and lukewarm water.
  • Clean the accessories separately with soap and water. Do not clean them in the washing machine.
  • Do not use abrasive products, detergents, or soaps. After washing, rinse with clean water and dry carefully. When the cleaning operations have been completed, reconnect the plug of the unit with dry hands.
  • You should clean the condenser with a broom at least twice a year to provide energy saving and increase productivity.

Defrosting

For fridge compartment

  • Defrosting occurs automatically in the refrigerator compartment during operation; the defrost water is collected by the evaporating tray and evaporates automatically.
  • The evaporating tray and the defrost water drain hole should be cleaned periodically with the defrost drain plug to prevent water from collecting on the bottom of the refrigerator instead of flowing out.
  • You can also pour ½ glass of water into the drain hole to clean the inside.

For freezer compartment;

The frost accumulated in the freezer compartment should be removed periodically. The freezer compartment should be cleaned in the same way as the refrigerator compartment, with defrost operations performed at least twice a year.

For this:

  • The day before you defrost, set the thermostat dial to position 5 to freeze the foods completely.
  • During defrosting, frozen foods should be wrapped in several layers of paper and kept in a cool place. The inevitable rise in temperature will shorten their storage life. Remember to use these foods within a relatively short period of time.
  • Switch the refrigerator off at the socket outlet and pull the main plug.
  • Leave the door open and, to accelerate the defrosting process, one or more basins of warm water can be placed in the freezer compartment.
  • Dry the inside of the unit and the water tray, refit the tray plug, and set the thermostat knob to position 5.

Replacing The Light Bulb

  • When replacing the light of the refrigerator compartment:
    1. Unplug the unit from the power supply.
    2. Press the hooks on the sides of the light cover top and remove the light cover.
    3. Change the present light bulb with a new one of not more than 15 W.
    4. Replace the light cover and, after waiting 5 minutes, plug the unit in.

Replacing LED Lighting

If your refrigerator has LED lighting, contact the help desk, as this should be changed by authorized personnel only.

Part 5. Transportation and Changing of Installation Position

Transportation and changing of installation position

  • Original package and foam may be kept for re-transportation (optionally).
  • You should fasten your fridge with thick packaging, bands, or strong cords and follow the instructions for transportation on the package for re-transportation.
  • Remove movable parts (shelves, accessories, vegetable bins, etc.) or fix them into the fridge against shocks using bands during re-positioning and transportation.
  • Carry your fridge in the upright position.

Repositioning the door

  • It is not possible to change the opening direction of your fridge door if the door handles on your fridge are installed from the front surface of the door.
  • It is possible to change the opening direction of the door on models without any handles.
  • If the door opening direction of your fridge can be changed, you should contact the nearest Authorized Service to have the opening direction changed.

Part 6. Before Calling Your After Sales Service

If your refrigerator is not working properly, it may be a minor problem. Therefore, check the following before calling a technician to save time and money.

What to do if your refrigerator does not operate:

Check that:

  • There is no power.
  • The general switch in your home is not disconnected.
  • The thermostat setting is on the '0' position.
  • The socket is sufficient. To check this, plug in another appliance that you know is working into the same socket.

What to do if your refrigerator performs poorly:

Check that:

  • You have not overloaded the appliance.
  • The doors are closed perfectly.
  • There is no dust on the condenser.
  • There is enough space at the rear and side walls.

If there is noise:

The cooling gas which circulates in the refrigerator circuit may make a slight noise (bubbling sound) even when the compressor is not running. Do not worry; this is quite normal. If these sounds are different, check that:

  • The appliance is well-leveled.
  • Nothing is touching the rear.
  • The items on the appliance are vibrating.

If your fridge is operating too loudly

Normal Noises

Cracking (Ice cracking) Noise: (For no-frost/frost-free appliances) During automatic defrosting. When the appliance is cooled or warmed (due to expansion of appliance material). Short cracking: Heard when the thermostat switches the compressor on/off.

Compressor noise

Normal motor noise: This noise means that the compressor operates normally. The compressor may cause more noise for a short time when it is first activated.

Bubbling noise and splash: This noise is caused by the flow of the fridge freezer in the tubes of the system.

If your fridge is operating too loudly

To maintain the set cooling level, the compressor may be activated from time to time. Noises from your fridge at this time are normal and due to its function. When the required cooling level is reached, noises will be decreased automatically.

If the noises persist:

  • Is your appliance stable? Are the legs adjusted?
  • Is there anything behind your fridge?
  • Are the shelves or dishes on the shelves vibrating? Re-place the shelves and/or dishes if this is the case.
  • Are the items placed on your fridge vibrating?

If you hear any other noises, check that:

  • The appliance is level.
  • Nothing is touching the rear of the appliance.
  • The objects on the appliance are vibrating.

Water flow noise: (For no-frost/frost-free appliances) Normal flow noise of water flowing to the evaporation container during defrosting. This noise can be heard during defrosting.

Air Blow Noise: If the appliance has a fan in freezer/cooler/bottom cabinet compartments. This noise can be heard in fridges during normal operation of the system due to the circulation of air.

If there is water in the lower part of the refrigerator:

Check that:

  • The drain hole for defrost water is not clogged (Use defrost drain plug to clean the drain hole).

IMPORTANT NOTES:

  • While power is cut, to prevent any compressor problem, you should unplug the refrigerator. You should delay plugging in 5-10 minutes after the power supply is restored. If you unplug the refrigerator for a reason, you should wait at least 5 minutes to replug. It is important for avoiding damage to the refrigerator's components.
  • The cooling unit of your refrigerator is hidden in the rear wall. Therefore, water droplets or icing may occur on the rear surface of your fridge due to the operation of the compressor at specified intervals. This is normal. There is no need to perform a defrosting operation unless the icing is excessive.
  • If you will not use your fridge for a long time (e.g., during summer holidays), put the thermostat to the '0' position. After defrosting, clean your fridge and leave the door open to prevent humidity and smell.
  • If the problem persists after you have followed all the instructions above, please consult the nearest Authorized Service.
  • The appliance you have purchased is designed for home-type use and can be used only at home and for the stated purposes. It is not suitable for commercial or common use. If the consumer uses the appliance in a way that does not comply with these features, the manufacturer and the dealer shall not be responsible for any repair and failure within the guarantee period.

Tips for saving energy

  1. Install the appliance in a cool, well-ventilated room, but not in direct sunlight and not near a heat source (radiator, cooker, etc.). Otherwise, use an insulating plate.
  2. Allow warm food and drinks to cool down outside the appliance.
  3. When thawing frozen food, place it in the refrigerator compartment. The low temperature of the frozen food will help to cool the refrigerator compartment when it is thawing, thus reducing energy requirements.
  4. When placing drinks and liquids, they must be covered. Otherwise, humidity increases at the appliance, therefore the working time gets longer. Also, covering drinks and liquids helps preserve their smell and taste.
  5. When placing food and drinks, open the appliance door as briefly as possible.
  6. Keep the covers closed of any different temperature compartment in the appliance (crisper, chiller, etc.).
  7. The door gasket must be clean and pliable. Replace gaskets if worn.
