Corston Smart In-Line Dimmer Instructions
This document provides instructions for setting up and using the Corston Smart In-Line Dimmer, a device designed for smart home integration using Matter over Thread technology.
Product Overview
The Corston Smart In-Line Dimmer is compatible with major smart home hubs such as Amazon Alexa, Apple HomePod, and Google Home. It utilizes Matter over Thread, ensuring seamless connectivity without reliance on Wi-Fi.
For detailed information on using connected switches, please refer to the guide available on the Corston website.
The dimmer can be controlled via a push-button or a connected smart system. It can also be wired without a switch, allowing for voice or smartphone/tablet control. Each dimmer can control all lights on a circuit.

Minimum Brightness Setting
To set the minimum brightness: Press and hold the minimum setting button for three seconds. Adjust the dimmer to the desired brightness. If the current brightness is between 1% and 50%, it will be set as the minimum. If the current brightness is 100%, the previously set minimum brightness will be cleared. Once a minimum brightness is set, the connected load cannot be dimmed below this level.
Start-up Brightness Setting
To set the start-up brightness: Briefly double-press the minimum setting button. Adjust the dimmer to the desired brightness. If the current brightness is between 1% and 50%, it will be set as the start-up brightness. If the current brightness is 0%, the previously set start-up brightness will be cleared.
Pairing
After configuring your Smart Hub, press the reset button five times for the dimmer to be discoverable. Refer to the instructions for connected systems for the rest of the installation procedure.
Push-Button Operation
- Short press down: On/Off
- Long press: Brighter/Dimmer
- Jumpered and earth cables between switches

Note: If the dimmer is wired without a neutral and your LED has an output power of less than 20W, a bypass module can be added as an extension to increase the dimming range. Refer to the wiring diagrams for the second method.
Wiring Methods
First Method: With Neutral
A diagram illustrates the wiring for a system with a neutral connection, showing the connection of the dimmer module to the power source, lights, and a push-button switch.
Second Method: Without Neutral
Diagrams illustrate two wiring configurations without a neutral connection. The first shows a direct connection to the lights and push-button. The second shows the inclusion of a bypass module when the LED output power is less than 20W.
